A giant passes away

Very few on AZ will know his name but I lost a good friend this week. Peter Hawley was the Vice President of the WPA. A gentleman he was and passionate about pool. He was an afficionado of the small ball game specifically 8 ball which is the main discipline in has native South Africa.

He commanded a following of 60,000 players which is a remarkable achievement.

He came to the UK a few weeks and I spent a lovely few hours in his company. He told me that he gave up his business and now spends most of his non pool time cleaning up the water supply (a very physical task) in his homeland.

I met Peter when I was at a WPA meeting about 5 years ago.
He was a gem.

The next year or two he was having a world blackball or 8 ball event.

He almost convinced us (Bcapl) to get a team together.

I only knew him slightly but it was easy to see he was a very decent man.

May he rest in peace
