She had the advantage of growing up in a billiard hall. There is a chapter on her in Robert Byrne's Advanced Technique book. This link may get you there or try your own search in Google Books:

Speaking of women in billiards, here is a clip from a French film. It includes a Simonis ad and a "No Masse Shots" sign.

Wow, that doodle was great! Someone at google must be a pool/carom/history nut to come up with that. The writeup and shot graphic was clearly from someone who knows the game well.

Poor guy didn't pocket a single ball with all that shakin.

Here is a thread about Masako Katsura in the AZB Hall of Fame forum -- which I didn't know about until I found it just now.

And here is what Danny McGoorty had to say about Masako through Bob Byrne in the book "McGoorty". (The pictures appear in only some printings of the book.)

Here is another picture of Masako Katsura in later years. This was at Palace Billiard on Market Street. Also visible in the picture are Bud Harris, a US 3-C champion, Bob Byrne before his hair turned white, and AZB member MBVL and his wife. This is from a different edition of "McGoorty", the one in the "Library of Larceny" series. I believe this was the only time I saw her play.

Can the 3C top pros make the shot in the doodle under tournament equipment conditions? How many tries would they need for it to be a fair bet?

For the shot in the doodle you need very slippery cloth -- like brand new -- so the ball keeps its spin for a long time. But that pattern looks really, really hard. Ask Florian on FleeceBunk -- he doesn't seem to have any carom masse videos on his YouTube channel.

When the doodle was online, if you clicked on it, did it take you to her google search results page?

Here is Semih Sayginer making the shot pretty much as diagrammed but I'll bet that the cue ball has been specially prepared. The shot is at 4:00 if the link doesn't take you there.
