A lesson with JBKY.. John Brumback, World Champion.

He's asking for something very basic,
You've provided information and not hurt any of the parties involved.

TC,
Actually he did not seem to be asking for information, but seemed rather more interested in disputing the credibility of the OP.

Also, my experiences with JB were reported on this forum, along with some of the information dispensed (search feature is available on this forum). You seem unaware that banks is a very complicated and precision-requiring discipline. There is only a bit of the info that can be passed along verbally by those with the time and inclination to do so (what I chose to pass on is in the original report). Even videos are limited in their ability to clarify many of the situations.

If I was inclined to spend enormous amounts of time to precisely describe and teach; I would not do it in this forum; but rather with and for true students of the game.

People wanting something for nothing; and wanting skill without practice and dedication give me a headache.

Google is your friend, my friend (unless it's pool we're talking about).

Do you know what this is for?

It's for trolling, my second favorite pastime, after pocket billiards that is...

I did? How do you come to that conclusion? I accept I was flippant but I'm not sure how I 'disputed the credibility of the OP'.

Personally, I'm not keen on people who conflate different issues and wallow in hyperbole, but there you go.

My copy of John Brumback's DVD arrived Friday, I watched it Saturday morning and went out to practice on Saturday afternoon. I'm blown away. My banks game has jumped 2 balls just from watching the video and an hour or two of practice. Now I feel like I know what I'm doing when I bank - my pocketing has gone up and my misses tend to be closer to the pocket. I certainly need more practice on his techniques, but quite literally overnight I've gone from disliking banks to accepting/liking them.

As John says, most people bank "the wrong way." There's not a lot of good information out there, and banks come up infrequently in most games (other than 1P). It's easy for amateur players to get by with mediocre banking skills because of that infrequency. That's why John's information is so valuable.

Without exaggeration I can say that John's DVD is the most useful instructional item I've used since I was a beginner. Nothing else has given me such a noticeable improvement in such a short period of time. Thank you, John and Mark.

I haven't seen the DVD, but even sight unseen I'd have to say that if John is giving up any insights into how to bank pool balls it would be wise to listen to what he has to say.

Banking is something of a "dark art" for most pool players. Yes, we all shoot the occasional cross-side at 8ball or 9ball, or lag balls towards our hole at 1pocket, but high level bank pool is a totally different animal. In fact, if you haven't seen banks played on an Accu-Stats DVD or in person at an event like the DCC, you probably have no clue as to what it really looks like. It is something to see.

If available, I'm looking forward to picking up a copy at the Derby.

Thanks alot Lou.Yes, I will have em at the DCC.Alot of the shots work good for one pocket too,not just banks and bankpool. Thanks again and see ya down there. John B.

After reading a few posts .I think ill comment .Some seem to think that anything that mite help there game thats different just wont work .Its not different or really new ,its just that some people have figured how and why things work on the table and want to help. CTE and JBs Banks as a few ,Both of these work but it doesnt make you a instant champion ,it still takes practice and most want it now .Ive taken lessons fron Stan (CTE) and John both have improved my game and have vast information to still draw from to learn . John came to my house for me great time and info was super . Ive got a Diamond with 4.25 pockets set up by R K Cobra .Well John runs 15 or so on my table shooting one of his favorite shots long cross corner run 5 switch sides 5 switch 5 and hitting them in the heart .So yes the way he shots them makes the pocket bigger and the ball kinda fights to get in the pocket . Well worth it in my book and on video that ill post some soon i hope . well enough said on my part .

Tiger-man,
I came to that conclusion after reading your post - your entire post "IS there any danger of anyone ever providing any real, tangible results from lessons like these, y'know, things that are quantifiable and that?

No? Oh."
I speak English fairly well, and my conclusion was that all you wanted to do was dispute credibility. All English-speaking players with any education will take it the same.

There is no asking for information; just asking for measureable proof of improvement.

If you meant something else, you should realize that most on here think you are only disputing the credibility of teacher and student. When you say "No? Oh." you come off as a smartass. As my father ALWAYS said, "You know why they don't send mules to college don't you? Because all the world hates a smartass."

Yawn.

What do you mean he always said it? Didn't he say anything else?

Ok, Thai, I kinda understand what you're saying..

Most of what I've learned shot-wise is covered in Mosconi's books or from trial and error knocking them around myself.

Banking is different. A lot of the tricks to banking are sort of counterintuitive - cutting a ball and having it come back straight, for example. You could spend a long, long time figuring these things out, like how to make certain banks, how to avoid double-kisses and how to enlarge pockets, or you can get the DVD and be told so that you can go out and start practicing it yourself. I already understand some of his techniques, but there were others that hadn't quite put together and more than I was on the fence about. That, to me, was worth forking over some money for.

I hope that helps.

Thanks to John and Mark for putting some of his knowledge out there.. it's got a nice and easy country feel to it, too, so it's a relaxing watch.

haha.Thanks buddy.John B.

I got the DVD yesterday and only had time for a quick peek. I am watching John hit the first cross side bank shot. I always tried draw with this shot because I wanted to get the cue ball out of the way, and naturally it never went in. I go to the table to try a few banks and I nail every single one with John's technique. Fantastic!! I can't wait to watch the rest of the DVD.
