A lot of ivory....?

I love ivory in my cues, in fact, I hope that they shot a different elephant for each inlay in mine. Who gives a rats ass about an animal that goes around sucking up peanuts and remebering shit

BTW
I still have dreams about my baby panda case and polar bear fur toilet paper

ivory is a legally traded product. it is the main living for many overseas. if you refuse to buy ivory, the guy overseas who gathers it from dead elephants to process, cut, sell, he would think you are nuts. your opinoin about illegal ivory is totally uninformed and kind of silly. it certainly isnt based on any facts. ivory is an export staple for some of these poor countries. and it is beautiful.

I was searching around on AzBilliards, and saw peoples selling cues with statements like "a lot of ivory". There are also a lot of US peoples who like there cues with many ivory inlays.

Sorry, but I just hate those peoples. Do you guys know that they kill animals to get those ivory? Yes, there is legal ivory in the market. But if peoples like to buy them there is and will also be an illegal market for those items. I will not believe 50% of the cues made has legal ivory inlays. So why still buying them? Are you guys really heartless?

I know, what am I talking about. Most of the US peoples buy cars that needs gallons of petrol to run. Don't give any sh*t of our environment. But think about it, would you still buy a cue with ivory? One thing I'm really sure, I will never buy a cue with any ivory inlay, joint or ferrule on it.

I buy ivory laden cues from reputable cuemakers. I have discussed C.I.T.E.S. certificates and found sufficient proof that the ivory being used is pre-ban. The prices are very high because this product is so rare. Ivory has become a necessary point of emphasis when discussing the value of a cue. When I say "lots of ivory" I am not touting the killing of an animal, or condoning a trade in unlawful materials...I am speaking in the parlance of cue evaluation.

Hate me if you wish, but I am sensative to many issues that affect life and the environment. If you want to take an extremist's point of view, you should spend time at another forum. Ours may be open to respectful discourse, but if you are here to call me evil, or worthy of your hatred, I suggest you look closely in the mirror first.

I volunteer at a local animal shelter and actually DO things to better my community... yet I collect cues with ivory in them. My ebony and ivory box cue is black and white...but I am not. Until you consider that possibility, there is little, if anything at all, you will accomplish to change my perspective. Your judgmental attitude only cheapens the cause that you claim to be supporting.

My problem is I have to have two cues.. one for Canada (that has ivory - even my Schon STL9 has ivory), and one for traveling to the US.

That is ridiculous in my mind. I wish I just could bring my receipt that says it's my cue and I'm not selling it. Damn, you know how big a pain in the ass it is to buy a cue? If it has white in it, it can be confiscated..

Maybe Wesley could move to Canada & that would reduce his problem some.

I'm not an animal hater, but I'm not marching in a picket line at KFC with P.E.T.A. either.

You mean you're not going to change your legal name to "KentuckyFriedCruelty.com"? :D LOL. This guy did:

kFC.comlicense.jpg

LMAO. I'm not about to go THAT far, but I do think it's a worthy cause.

Regarding ivory, I'm glad there are so many knowledgeable people on AZ who can help educate us animal lovers. Thanks for the link, Duane.

Wesley, here's another thread you might want to check out:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=48214

As may of you know, billiard balls were once made of ivory and a $10,000 reward was offerred to find a suitable substitute. This was back around the1850's. What was the main driver behind this? Was it a concern for the depleting supply of elephants? Was it a some moralistic concern about how we treat other inhabitants of this earth?

No, it turns out it was all economic. The price of ivory at that time rose dramatically and a substitute was needed.

No doubt, the poaching of elephants is a big problem. When ivory becomes too expensive to put on cue sticks, the demand will go down. Until that time, elephants will have to bite the dust.

But what about all the poor defenseless bandwidth that died to make this redundant thread?

Check my avatar - that's my friend picking this years harvest from my ivory tree:p :p :p
