A Plea to Mike Howerton...

This thread itself validates the need for an aiming sub forum. In one day just the idea of it has generated 6 pages! With a healthy dose of bickering along the way.

On the contrary I was directed to a site that contained an explanation and example of Offset and Pivot Aiming Systems. That in itself is far more than I read here. And I'm not spending 50 or 80 bucks on a DVD to simply find out what the hell their arguing about.

Why move the aiming threads? Why not address the real problem, those that are there only to disrupt and offer nothing of value? They are the problem, not the topic. If those that don't want to read them stay out of them, no problem.

An Aiming Sub Forum should be just under the NPR forum.

Perhaps without a large audience the posting on aiming will either die or flourish. Which will it be?

I think placing aiming system threads in it's own bucket is a great idea. That way when I want to view that for instructions or just for fun, I can go there and compare the different topics. Otherwise I would have no chance of finding comparable aiming techniques without a lot of searching the main forum.

I know why Neil (and others) may not like this idea, because of the, well, I'm going to catch crap for this metaphor, "red-headed stepchild" nature of it. Pulling aiming threads out of the Main forum and pushing them into a subforum wreaks of "red-headed stepchild" and obviously folks would not like their information -- their pride and joy in many cases -- treated in that way.

But I think the initial pain of this will subside, and the true all-around long term good that will come of this will make it a distant memory.

I've got to agree with you, Sean. I think the biggest reason the regular participants in the aiming system debates have for not wanting their own sub-forum is not because it will limit their ability to teach as much as it will take center-stage away from them. They don't like that idea; they have become accustomed to having the spot light on them, and they don't want to give that up.

Roger

Never said I speak for the entire board. In fact, you bring up a point, what say you I start a poll on that very subject? Since you are so sure I'm wrong, what's the stakes? How about if I'm wrong, I will publicly apologize and never call you a troll again. If you are wrong, you have to change the way you reply to topics, meaning, you have to put things in a positive light instead of always being contrary. What say you???

Do you think that maybe you've been hanging around John Barton too long, Neil? You're beginning to sound exactly like him.

The forum rules for etiquette specify that posters shall not engage in ad hominem attacks, name calling and insulting each other.

Regardless of whether you put the aiming threads into a sub-forum, there needs to be better enforcement of the forum rules. There are posters here who have been warned and banned multiple times, yet they continue to post with impunity. The three strikes and you're out rule should be enforced without exceptions or favoritism.

IMO, it's not sufficient to just move the aiming threads into another forum where they are less visible. We also need to put some teeth into enforcing the forum rules.

I totally disagree. Aiming threads have been very helpful to me. I have tried many of the different systems and my game has improved. You can learn as much by what doesn't work for you as what does. But you have to try first and most of the "anti aiming thread" folks don't even try for an extended period of time.

I would also like a separate section for aiming. I get tired of the arguing.

I didn't say aiming systems haven't done anything to help anybody; I said none of the "aiming system arguments" have ever done anything to further pool.

The saddest thing here so far is I was about to try and purchase a Roger Long 31" Butt on the FS section and then I recalled the no ability to understand the game on certain levels.....

Throwing stones he is good at.... Playing an ostrich? Check......

Have any real clue about the game?? starting to think not so much.....

I'd stick to turning wood....... It's pretty simple until you get into all of the stuff you refuse to even try and understand...... Then you have to understand the physics of the LD shaft and then understand what has to be done to your wood to make it even close to production cues in playability....

I have seen enough of the trolling to know that some minds are closed... All I can hope is that if the trolls procreate nurture is greater than nature and the next batch of offspring they produce has a chance......

Do you ever make any sense?

Roger,

MY last post was pretty smartass.. and the prior one as well... I am both a yeasayer and a naysayer...... I use whatever works and stick it in my toolbox.... I was a little biased on the LD thread you posted on because like the rest of us we like to pick out trees and miss the forest......

SO back to the original question.... can we get an aiming section subcategory? Have Mike make it Aiming.... plus tricks and secrets and how would you play this and I think it's likely a good plan...

There are way too may volatile discussions that should have been useful but get derailed... At full speed I am Open level.. having to fend off the pocketpoints and other trolls have a way to have us ready to jump to the defense.....

I have no issue with you just your tone in the thread.... Hopefully at some point our paths cross and we can discuss real pool....

Every day... every post..... How bout you??? nm that's a redundant question...

Maybe every post, every day makes sense to you, but I seriously doubt that anyone else can make sense of them.

Why don't you stop being so coy and just come on out with it and tell everybody exactly what you have against me? My own guess would be that it's because I've questioned the actual values of things that you've already convinced yourself are priceless; and two of those things would undoubtedly be CTE and LD shafts. Plus, you are no doubt one of those who would like to see everyone who disagrees with your viewpoints banned from AZB. Correct?

You should enjoy your new subforum, Renfro. No one will be allowed to disagree with you there.

Roger

Renfro,

I posted my last reply before reading this one from you. I'm very sorry for my lowbrow tone. Please forgive me.

No worries these are the forums.... We get caught up and swept away in an instant......... I think if we all learned to proofread we'd get along better but that's just wishful thinking.....

I have 25+ year learning and playing and I bet you do as well.... We'd be far better off in other platforms than aiming threads discussing what we have both observed...

Settle down...

Do you think the arguments have ever changed over the years? Is it the same old, same old, from PJ and friends?
