Hello All, I ran across this Sailor Cue & Case and was wondering if someone might could tell me what it might be worth. It is a one of a kind and has custom made on one of the shaft's (Custom made for JJ) The Case is also custom made for the stick and only holds one butt and 2 shafts. I would like to sell it once i find out some things about it. Thanks in advance, Doug

Do I know you sir?? I got this cue from a friend of mine and she has had it for over 20 years. I for one have never sold a cue to anyone. You should know who you are talking about before you go to calling names. It could cause you trouble in the end!! If you know me tell me who you are and dont hide behind a screan name. I am Doug Carter and i live in VA if that helps you.

Beautiful cue and case.

As far as I've learned here on AZ, Sailor Cues are very desirable.

Supposed to be great players and made by a very good Instructor and player.

Yours is one of the nicest ones I've seen.

Whats the weight of the butt and shafts and size of the shafts.

Are the ferules Ivory ??

Very nice !!!

It feels like around 19 OZ and the shafts are around 12.5 Everything is Ivory. It has a couple of dings in it but it has been teken care of. The cue hits very well. I have not been able to find out much about it yet. I found it in the blue book but it does not have any pictures of any cue that he made. Thanks for all the help in advance.

Jeff Carter played with one of his cues for years, and swore by it. "Sailor of Racine" is the maker's pool nickname. Supposed to be an excellent player in his day. Not the same guy as Sailor Barge though. He was from the East Coast.

Nice find there Doug....rare cue indeed. Cue looks to be in excellent unrestored original condition. With 2 shafts & the case....I think starting north 900 hun range isn't out of the question at all. May be worth more to the right Sailor fan. Very rare to find a 2 shaft package deal with original case. Call me if you have questions.

Edited to add: Not to speak for macguy but I think he meant no dis toward you but I believe he was directing his poor taste remark to Frank Stellman.

with case and both shafts. If it is straight I dont think a $1,000 is out of line.

This is what i was thinking but was not sure. ($1000.00) I will see what happens and go from there. I checked it and it rools great. The hit feels great also. I would keep it but i have to meny cues now. Thanks

Thanks Keven for this. After i thought about it i thought the same thing and i am sorry for what i posted if that is the way it is. Thanks again, Doug

I have a collection of Sailor cues.. 12 of them. They don't go for much money. Most sell on ebay for less than $500. The case is ok but with the guys name on it loses it's value as a playing case and it's not a collectors item.

You say it's ivory. What parts are ivory? Sailor used mostly plastic of different sorts. His trademark was the flared butt.... Sailor cues.. the cues with a flare!

The cue looks good but you don't mention if it has any defects or rolls straight?

Usually his cues just don't go for that much. PM sent.

You could pm dmgwalsh on az. He has a couple Sailors and is a friend of Sailors, as am I. Maybe he could help find a marketable price for the cue. I'm interested in buying it if we can find an agreeable price.

Regards, Jim

one of the shafts collar doesn't seem to be the same color. not sure if that's an original, made after the full cue was made or what. might hurt the price.

while a lot of people list them for more most sailor cues with a design similar to yours end up selling between 400-600 with one shaft in fairly good condition. (mostly on ebay)

the case and the 2nd shaft i would say adds an additional couple of hundred to it.

good luck with your eventual sale.

I am sure someone mentioned it already but the case is a J.E.F. Jay Flowers case. I have seen them go on www.billiardcue.com for more than $500 like this.

WOW! I didn't know it was a Flowers case. That kicks me clear out of the waters. I can't afford the case and the cue and I'm not really interested in a case with another guys name on it. I can't afford to buy it for historical purposes. I'd only want the cue so if there is any interest in selling the cue let me know.

Thanks, Jim

Edit: John... are you sure it's a Flowers? How can it be identified? Logo under the handle? Other? Or can you just tell by the work?

PLEASE Don't sell it without talking to me. I love Sailor cues.

I'm thinking that the collars are burl.. like the butt sleeve appears to be, and maybe the light makes a difference or the variable burl grain is different on each.
