Sold a couple of cues worth $1000 total to someone in indonesia. They paid using paypal and now they are initiating a claim on their end. I called up paypal to follow up on the case and provided them with the express mail tracking info. But for some reason, I feel that Im gonna be out the cues and the cash. So right away, I emptied out my paypal account. I dont think paypal can touch my bank account or credit cards to claim the $1000 if the credit card company rules in favor of the buyer. What else can I do? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Erik,

I'd get the money out of my bank account if I were you. Paypal can debit your account to make a payment, so I have a feeling they can access your account for other things. I keep a separate account that I only use for Paypal just because of this kind of thing. Good luck!

don't think paypal can touch you're account without authorisation from the account holder
Problem is that I think you authorize that when you sign up with them. I hope I'm wrong...

Paypal cannot debit from your account without your consent. They will negative your paypal account and then either pursue it from you or write it off, but either way they'll go after you.

Just make sure you respond with what they ask for, when they ask for it, and you should be ok. Document everything.

You are right... Get the money out of this account at once...then no problem...let them hit their heads in the wall (indonesians)

This happened to me once a couple years ago. At that time the balance on my account was 0. So when the scam was in place, paypal debitted my paypal account balance to -$500. They never touched my bank account at all. I wonder if things have changed in the last 2 years....

I have email between me and the buyer and all the shipping paperwork, express mail receipt and custom forms. But since I shipped it to an unconfirmed international address, paypal will not protect me. The can come after me for the $$ and i'll give them the big F*** YOU. Not sure if it would hurt my credit rating if i dont pay them...

Paypal WILL take you to court and WILL turn your account over to a collection ageancy and WILL report to Credit agencies right or wrong, they will make you pay or make your life more miserable than money is worth......

"Lose" your credit card. Once you have no credit card, they can't deduct money from you. I'm not too sure about the bank account, unless you've given prior authorisation for them to be able to access your bank account and debit money out of it, i don't think they are allowed to touch the money in your bank account.

Totally untrue! They have taken money out of my bank account before on a transaction. Best way to counter is close your bank account!

you should remove all info from your paypal account change the email address to a gmail address remove bank account and credit card info. Then close your paypal account and the bank account that goes with it. When you open a new paypal account they may come after you or may not. Good Luck

They will take your PayPal account negative and also go so far as to suspend your ebay account until it is paid. Soon there will only be PayPal for ebay... or nothing. ebay is going PayPal Only. There are no confirmed overseas addresses. Also, you no longer have to ship to confirmed addresses to receive PayPal protection.

So Sorry!!

Erik..Sorry you got scammed. After reading Bamacue's post on "unconfirmed address" with PayPal scam, I won't ship to anyone unconfirmed. I tell them to send a postal money order or use western union. In fact, I have lost 3 sales on this site because of this issue. They were all outside USA and they all said they would send me the money using one of the above methods. I never heard from them again....you do the math. More than ever I'm sticking to my guns about this situation. I wish you luck with PayPal....Have you called them on the phone? Maybe you can plead your case and settle the issue in your favor. It's worth a try. One good thing is that I don't think it will hurt your good standing here on AZB. I know I'll still buy from you. Nancy

They will put a negative balance on your account and then they will LOCK your account. They are hard to reason with.. even when you have proof. They have a lot of lawsuits against them and yet they continue to operate.

Sorry to hear about this Erik...but selling to anyone in Indonesia is automatically a red flag...I get inquiry all the time from guy in this area. I would have them send international money order via western union or wired transfer. Any reason they check out ok for this deal?

Hope everything work out...the only thing I would do is have someone contact the local authority there if possible...you have local address information and contact information of the individual who paid. Hope this helps.

Regards,
Duc.

Get your money out of the account. Go to your nearest police department and file a stolen goods (theft) report. Send it (the report) to paypal immediately. They will likely find in your favor with the report. Paypal's policy is first in with the police report wins, because once you make it a civil matter they can wash their hands of it.

Paypal still sucks...

Joe is absolutely correct.

www.paypalsucks.com

and the moral of the story kids?

WIRE TRANSFER ONLY

JV,
I talked to a paypal agent and they didnt tell me anything about filing a police report... Do you think they left that piece of info out deliberately?

Emptied out my paypal balance. Now I have to wait until the remaining funds are transfered to my bank account. Once that happens, I'll close out the account.

This sucks A$$ big time... Thats why I have so little faith left in people...

Thanks all of you guys for your input. I truly appreciate it...
