ABP boycotts Berhman's event

I understand

The hotels wouldn't take a postdated check , the airlines wouldn't take an IOU to come to the Open, Gas station wanted my money before I fueled up to come to the Open ! Oh, and Our entrees had to be sent in before we started the event . Does anybody see a pattern here ? If we paid all of our expenses with a credit card, 30 days from then the card company wants there money or we pay huge finance charges ! Please tell me all you guys and gals understand what I am saying ?

I hope your solidarity among the top players in the world holds. What you are trying to accomplish needs to be done for the sport we all love. Sometimes we have to take a few steps backward to move forward in the futue. I am sure the NFL was not very pleased when the Players Union started...but the Players benefited and the NFL is still alive and strong!!!

Best of luck to you!!!

Sorry, but I really don't! You make it sound like a guaranteed pay day! What if you don't get in the money, and not all of you will?? Did you have no plan on that event happening???
LOL, you are obviously not a pool player ! What Pro actually goes to an event and doesn't expect to win or place high ? come on now. try telling a sponsor that you did great in the tournament but he can't get a return on his investment cause you didn't get paid. Yeah, that will go over good.

Its like a mutiny....but the players are jumping out of the boat and sailing away in a canoe..with holes in it. Sorry Shawn....but your reputation isn't exactly the best after that "sour grapes debacle" during your announcing during JA and Earls Bad Blood match. Then you couple that with the Mosconi boycott to keep Earl offn the team......you look like a jealous fool.

there was a tourny out west and one in texas that did some big promises and didn't make good.

bill

There were 2 out West. One was bailed out by Mark Griffin, the other is a sticky here on AZ Main. The Texas event was the Galveston World Classic. I believe everyone got paid there but they cut the added when the turn out was low.

There was also the IPT where MANY people are still out money.

BB has put this on for 35 years....and everyones been paid....and you guys are on here looking for support? And more importantly you have nothing else waiting in the wings thats more lucrative......The fun part of this will be seeing the players jump off this sinking ship.....

I'm sorry you feel that way.
It is not jealousy, If were playing on tour and had to walk in our shoes you would understand. Please keep an open mind when you only see one side of the story ?

the hell with all this crap about money and getting paid... who the hell does that anymore?:D

I just wanted to say I like your spin the ball in place and softly hit it one rail and it goes in the side like clockwork.

There...

that's all:embarrassed2:

It's gambling enough just getting there and then sweat the whole week whether you can even get paid at the end. Nice. Barry's downfall was doing the Masters tournament. It seems like his money got funny doing both tourneys... If the Open doesn't make much, or just breaks even, how much sense does it make to continue sinking money and losing it putting on the Masters. Obviously when he keeps lowering the added monies for it, he's losing.

I feel ya dog....

I don't know what's going to happen, but the U.S. Open is not a team event and all players play for themselves, so one way or the other there will be players playing the future tournaments. Obviously the standard of the event will drop and definitely effect the stance of United States in the global billiards community. I hope this situation gets solved between the management and the players but at the end of the day, boycotting will bring more bad than good. JMHO.

Thanks.

Shawn, I have no ill will toward any of you. I am not on either side. I am probably as impartial as possible since I have no stake in the situation either way. It seems that your agenda does not look toward the bigger picture.

The ABP's mission statement gives ideas of what a tournament should be, but what are you doing to further your goal (obviously other than boycotting)? For you to get paid, there has to be money available. Until someone gets the money, this song will keep on repeating.

It seems that what is needed is some collaboration to grow the sport. Good luck in acheiving your goals. I hope it works out for you.

I'm going to bed.

No, I am. And, I have played in a few pro events.
But, I don't borrow money to get to them. If I don't have the money, or can't win the money beforehand, I don't go. And, there's a big difference between not getting paid, and getting paid late. I've gone out of state to tournaments just to find out when I got there that they were cancelled too late to put it in the press. Part of doing business in this business.

And, as far as the Open, not a single one of you have not been paid.
So you are a player then. If you made a living playing pool, costs were over $1500 and you made $2000 and had to wait 3,4,5 months to get your money, would you be ok with that if you were living tournament to tournament trying to follow your dreams ? Or Quit, get a job , and complain the rest of your life sying I could of made it as a Pro if I wasn't put in that position ? Please see it from our point of view just one time. Keep an open mind, we could still reach an agreement with BB and almost all of us will attend and be thankful for it cause it is the greatest tournament on the planet (If we don't have to play for 6 days and live in fear of not getting paid this year .)How can we play our best pool wondering if there is even a hint of not getting paid .

I am going to bed now. We hope that everyone on here has a great night.
No one wants the US Open to fail. We are just looking for peace of mind when it comes time to pay the players at the end of the event. We will be back on here tomorrow night after our matches at Capone's !

What you are implying is that you have no money to cover your credit cards if he doesn't pay on time. So, you want all those places you mentioned to extend you credit, but you don't want to extend any credit to Barry. hmmm......... see any problem there????

Actually what he was implying was that if those places don't extend credit to them, why should they be forced to extend credit to Barry? He wasn't implying that he wanted those places to extend him credit. You got the arguments mixed up.

I'm kind of on the fence about this. On one hand, the players should have a right to get paid on time. On the other hand, it would have been a better move to settle this with negotiations and compromises rather than a boycott that is apparently not very well organized or thought out.

From what it sounds like, it is near impossible for Barry to post the money up front. Demanding that it be so is futile.

The players should try to negotiate interest rates on owed monies if the money is not paid on time. This will give Barry incentive to pay on time while not making him come up with huge sums of cash out of nowhere.

I fully understand what you are saying. But, what I don't understand is your fear on NOT getting paid.?? He has always paid, usually late, but paid none the less. All the lower winners get paid on the spot, and the uppers get some and have to wait for the rest. Seems all get some on the spot. Correct???

I really want to side with you guys, but I strongly feel you are going about it all wrong and harming yourselves. Are you guys going to be satisfied if Barry lowers the prize fund to something he can guarantee??
Alot of us get nothing for awhile ! (top finishers)

The loss of the US Open 9 Ball Championship would at least for the near term result in one less US event to count in the world rankings. That can't be good for US players who don't have the resources to compete in all the other events worldwide.

Great point ! I will tell that idea to the whole board !
