Adam Savage - Mythbusters Fame - Pool Player

Dude in the middle looks about as bored as any non-poolplayer would during a conversation about pool.

PS: Man, I will know have to "test" my baseball buddies from my team and find out if they know the history and stats of all the baseball greats from 1935 to 1941, just to make sure they are really "baseball players" and not just posers. LOL
I don't know. If someone claims to be a baseball player/enthusiast and says the record consecutive game hitting streak in the majors is somewhere around 15 games, you'd have to wonder.

yeah....LOL. but please don't limit your question to such a narrow range/era.
Ask them how many homers Babe Ruth or Hank Aaron hit.
hint: (they won't miss it by 3 fold)

yes, they will be in the ball park, but then again, baseball has been a fan favorite for 100 years, and baseball is hugely popular to this day. Of course, they will know a few stats. But if one of my buddies did not know that Lou Gehrig's lifetime batting avg was .340, I would not think less of them or rip them for not being a "real" fan or player.

Heck, my wife NEVER played baseball, and she could probably take a good shot at guessing since she probably heard it over the years as folks talk about baseball. In the pool world, she would have no shot at guessing any stat and any time for anyone. She thinks Willie Mosconi owned the pizza place in our old neighborhood ;)

Boy you guys are a bunch of nits. The guy is enthusiastic about the sport. So he gets a few facts jumbled. SO WHAT.

After listening to him it made me want to go out and shoot some balls.

Great video, thanks for posting.

LOL. pretty much. Who cares, they guy is a household name, he shoots pool, and appears to be a decent amateur. Who the FCK cares if he does not know how many balls are run in SP, not like SP is a main stream game these days ;)

IT WAS VERY COOL TO ME!
but, what do I know?:o
It was way neat to hear HOUSEHOLD NAMES hold forth with so much enthusiasm!
( I was a fan anyway, even more so now)

I know guys that play baseball but do NOT follow it or watch it on TV. I'm sure they would have no clue. Who would care. They play the game. that's what matters.

Is there some test you must take to "prove" you are a real fan or not? Is 150 in SP that outrageous, really?

I know pool players that do NOT even know who SVB is, and they are pretty sporty players? So what, they play the game and go home to their lives that is not pool related, but one day a week, they are pool players. That should be good enough for anyone.

Anything else sounds kind of "snobbish" and if there is one thing I know, is pool players are the last sporting breed that can pull off being snobs ;)

I wonder if anyone listened all the way through? Adam is GENUINELY knowledgeable about pool. This is a great podcast about pool and should be spread far and wide by all of us who want to see pool grow.

I would say knowledgable academically, but really doesn't know much. It is hard for someone to fool you when they really don't know what they are talking about. There are many "Tells" when they speak.

He said he read "The Inner Game of Tennis". Just knowing about that book and how it can improve one's game signals to me that he has definitely put more effort to learn pool than 90% of pool players.

Watched it on my lunch break, great video, great discussion. Would recommend to anyone. The High run fact error is no big deal as far as I'm concerned.

It simply shows that a person isn't fully immersed. Hell my employee plays 9 speed pool and can't name half the pros and has no clue who luther lassiter was. He wouldn't pass a knowledge test on pool history with a gun to his head.

In fact Adam knows more pool history than this guy.

We are pool geeks, pool nerds and we can spot Adam the 5 out in pool trivia. Still, for a celebrity he knows enough to devote 30 minutes to talking only about pool. Pretty cool in my book.

Bingo.
I read that book last year and couldn't remember the author. Adam said it from memory instantly.
For him to know the learning aspect of the game down to that level is GREAT!

Joe Rogan can do a great impression of Earl Strickland, but probably wouldn't know about The Inner Game of Tennis. Does that make him more authentic than Adam Savage? Not at all.

This game is so vast and excellent in all its aspects that people get charged up by it in different ways.

Always great to see a celebrity get into pool.

For the average pool fan, it doesn't matter. But he actually claimed in the interview that he's read "all" books on pool (19:22). For someone who specifically claims to have read every book on pool, I would expect him to come at least close to guessing the number of the most famous record of the game. I wouldn't have thought twice about his flub if he didn't set himself up the way he did. If you're going to act like you know what you're talking about, you actually better know what you're talking about. That's just me.

He could have easily shown the same amount of enthusiasm for the game but come across much more humble.

I hate to tell ya HalfDeadEd, but 99% of the population never heard of Mosconi. 30% HAVE heard of Minnesota Fats. Only 10% of the 'very limited' pool population knows who Mosconi was, or anything about him or his record. More than half know who Minnesota Fats was...even if it's just from The Hustler movie.

does not compute.
the guy made a damn good living busting bull****
i just didn't expect him to not know about Mosconi.

So many people are keyboard warriors... Who cares if he doesn't know a random statistic about a high run- he is probably better than 70% of the people on this site. I would bet money that most of the people on here can't run 28. He doesn't suck and he's famous and he is talking about pool and it's good for the sport. Nuff said.

He seems to be more interested in being a street savvy, rough around the edges "New Yorker" than an actual pool player, but we all have our reasons.

you all suck...the op posted a little video that showed a celebrity that says he enjoys pool
he doesnt claim to be a champion and speaks well of it...what do you ballbags do?start crappin all over it

obviously i dont mean anyone who spoke normally ...man the rest of you super suck

these statistics could apply to a lot of sport stars.
no idea why/how that is related this video.
