Hi, guys,
I recently had a situation that I need your advise on. Here is the story:

About 1 month ago, I bought a pool table from a Craiglist local seller, the table came with 4 house cues and some accessories, I used a professional pool table mover for the moving . And today labor day out of nowhere, the seller called me and told me that I had his daughter's cue stick with blue grips and accusing me stealing it, so I checked the 4 house cues that came with the table and there was no cue with Blue grip, so I told him that I didn't have it. He then threatened me with legal actions if I don't either return it or give him $125 to replace the cue.

What should I do?

Thanks.

Explain to him that you don't have it and any legal action would only be in small claims court. Its your word against his and it would be futile. No cop I know would waste time on that case.

Tell him you honestly looked for any cue matching that description and the only thing you had were plain house cues. Continue with letting him know that while you understand that he is upset that his daughter misplaced her cue, accusing you of stealing it is completely out of line and if he feels he needs to pursue this in small claims court than he is more than welcome. Lastly, let him know that you would never think this of anyone, but this could easily be construed as an attempt to scam you out of another $125, which you are sure he would never even think of, but you would be more than willing to mention in court if it went that far. :)

You did mention that there were others involved with moving the table. Perhaps they have the cue.
Although blue grips doesn't sound that enticing.

If the daughter is over 18, tell him you have the cue and want the daughter! If she is under 18, tell him - go to ebay and bid on it like everyone else!

just tell him that cue that has blue grips and cost $125 isnt worth your time. you should tell him that if he doesnt leave you alone that you would like to return his table and get your money back. hes just trying to scare and scam you. he wont take that to court, not fpr pos cue like that.

its a bluff no one get's layers for this, plus according to you he's wrong, so not your problem. His daughter probably sold the cue to get some blow.

There is no way that he can prove that you have this cue unless he had a video camera filming the removal. Seems as if he is just trying to get another $125 from you.

Why would he sell a table if his daughter played pool? He needed the money and now wants more. It is also strange that it took him one month to find it was missing. She either sold it or left it somewhere.

Were you ever even in his house??? It sounds as though the table movers were the ones there, so how in the heck can he accuse YOU of stealing the cue? I'd let him know in no uncertain terms that I am not pleased with the fact that he is accusing you of stealing. Then, if he's not apologetic and continues to accuse, I'd simply tell him to "kiss my a**" and to go ahead and be a fool and get a lawyer. Scr*w him!!! He can't win this case.

If it's a Craigslist rating system that you're worried about, I'd contact someone affiliated with the service and explain your story to them.

I was at the house because I had to pay him first. But the mover did all the moving. Can I file a slander charge agaist him?

If he printed in a newspaper or some other official place (probably internet forums don't count since they are filled with lies daily  ), then maybe you can. If he just called you and said you a dirty rotten theif, then no. But you can call him names in return

If he threatned to come over and hit you with a bat because you refuse to give the alleged stick back, that's assault and you can file charges with the cops.

It already sounds to me like he started off handling it very badly. Starting now, forget all the threats. That just makes it worse. Angry people do stupid things.

Convince him you didn't do it. Talk calmly and politely and bring him to his senses. You don't know if the mover or a helper might have done it, but he knew they were outside contractors. All you know is you didn't do it.

I would also contact the table mover and alert him in case his helpers might have done it. Anyway, put yourself in this guy's shoes. He'll sense that you didn't do it.

What's gonna happen if he file the charges?

Nothing. He's got NO CASE. The burden of proof showing that you stole the cue rests in HIS camp. If, as you say, you are completely innocent of his accusations, then you have absolutely no worries!

Dude, let it go!!!
