After 25 years of cuemaking...i'm calling it quits

Thanks

I hope you enjoy your semi-retirement. I have always enjoyed your informative posts, and hope you continue to bring it. Do the things you love every chance you get!

I have 1/2 a dozen cues that I will try to finish this year & then I'm done. I will continue to do repair work, but that is all. I have some health issues, that are not life threatening, but hamper my abillity to do the work. My wife, Connie, will help with these last cues & I think together we can get them done. It has been a fun ride, starting at a time that there were not videos or books to learn this craft & I'm sad that it will end. The good news is that I can still golf & for now I can still play pool. GOOD LUCK TO ALL...JER
Jerry:

Best of luck to you and your family! Its been a pleasure reading your post and seeing your input on here!

Wishing you the best!

Sorry to hear you will be leaving the craft...hope you won't be leaving the forum. You have been (IMHO) one of the more respected contributors since I joined a number of years ago.

Hope your ball runs keep going up and your golf score keeps going down:thumbup:

Enjoy your retirement and do the things you could not working all of the time. Stay active and enjoy what life has to offer you. I wish you a peaceful journey and many long years of enjoyment. From all of the positive posts I have read, I am sure you would be welcomed back any time. Best Wishes!!!!!

Jer,

Best of luck with the golf game and I hope you and your wife find many ways to enjoy the semi-retirement.

Blackheart Cues

While I'm not a cuemaker, I have enjoyed reading your educated and sagacious posts. Thanks for all your contributions and good luck with your golf game! Hope to see you on TV at Pebble Beach sometime. :D

Best wishes to you and yours in whatever you look forward to doing, you will be missed in cueman land brother!

Jer,

Before you retire please explain to everyone where you got the name "Blackheart". You told me 20 years ago and I think it's worth sharing.

Hi Dan; For thoese who have heard this story, please bare with me.

As a teenager I grew up in a pool hall, where the game of SNOOKER, was king. I played for 2 hours in the morning (before school), a 1/2 hour at lunch, an hour after school & 2 hours after supper...every day. One day while playing my best friend, an old guy motioned me over to his chair. "DO YOU KNOW THIS FELLA THAT YOU'RE PLAYIN'" "YA", I SAID "HE'S MY BEST FRIEND" HE LOOKED AT ME & SAID " YOU JUST PLAYED 3 SNOOKERS IN A ROW, WHERE HE HAD NO SHOT, AT ALL". "IF THAT'S HOW YOU TREAT YOUR FRIENDS... YOU MUST HAVE A VERY "BLACK HEART". The counter guy heard the conversation & picked up on it. He started telling everybody, I had a "BLACK HEART", just to get under my skin. Well, the nickname stuck & when I made my 1st cues in 1986, players started calling them "BLACK HEART'S CUES", I dropped the "S" & BLACK HEART CUES were born. I knew Jim Mcdermott at the time & my wife said I should draw a black heart on the butt cap, like Jim did the green shamrock, on his cues. Since I didn't have the capabillities of inlays then, I drew them on with india ink. To this day the black hearts are drawn on each cue by hand. Because of my recent illness, my hand shakes, so my wife Connie has taken over the logo drawing...JER

Enjoy your retirement, Jerry.

You probably don't remember, but you were very encouraging to me a few years ago when I had the crazy thought of building cues. Very generous of you and I will never forget it.

Your contributions on here are always classy and insightful. Thanks for everything.

Cue return

I wish you good luck and enjoyment in your retirement. I would certainly hope that returning cues to your customers is part of the plan. I would like you to send mine back no matter what state of repair it is currently in at your shop.

What the hell are you talkin' about? I don't know who you are & I certanly don't have a cue of yours??????????...JER

Enjoy your simi - retirement! Your posts, and positive manner have always been a big help to me.

Incorrectly replied to by me.

Replied about looking for a cue that a maker has of mine. I erroneously posted a reply to this thread somehow, and BLACKHEARTCUES is not the maker in question. My apologies ........ not paying attention.
