The city of Tuscaloosa Alabama has been struck by a 1-1.5 mile wide tornado.
Everything in its path has been destroyed.
From Alabama to Virginia almost 200 people have thus far been verified as to have been being killed. The great bulk of deaths have occurred in Alabama.

Any members living in tornado stricken areas please check in and let us know you are ok.

Looks like 128 deaths in Tuscaloosa, AL so far. 32 in Mississippi. TN has risen to 15. 11 in GA. VA has increased to 6 if I heard correctly.

It was reported that there were 137 tornado's on the ground at one point.

The death toll is expected to rise.

still trying to find some people and a lot can't get out due to roads being blocked we had entire communites wiped out.

I keep watching the news and it just keeps getting worse.

There are a lot of areas w/o power. I don't know about internet service. Johnnyt

It's very, very ugly down south, guys......I've been on phone and texting all morning. I'm reading the news on the devastation in AL, but I can tell you that in the Chattanooga area alone, I'm hearing there were over 80,000 without power this morning....that's roughly 1/4 of the metro pop. Ringgold, a nearby town in north GA, was hit incredibly hard....there are many people there now without homes, jobs, etc. Here's a vid on the small town of Ringgold, I'm sure areas in AL are much worse. http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/dpp/news/local_news/VIDEO:-Aerials-of-Catoosa-Storm-Damage-042811-am-sd

Was up most of the night last night and don't really know how the wave of tornadoes missed us here in Jonesborough.....they seemed to hit all around. This weather event was unlike anything that has ever come through this part of the country.

Please keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers. It will take many months for some affected areas to recover.

Good here, but missing two cousins in Tuscaloosa. Also, iba7467's old hometown of Ohatchee was nailed last night too, with one man being thrown into the Coosa River (and lived). Its chaos...

Highway 82, 15th Street, and McFarland took the brunt of the damage in Tuscaloosa if that helps.

How awful. Just awful.

Every time my wife complains to me about the cold weather and snowstorms we get in the winter, I remind her we don't have to deal with tornados or hurricanes. We can move snow, and usually stay warm. Those tornados...wow.

Prayers and thoughts going out to all affected.

cueaddicts,

Alabama Power had 412,000 I think at their peak last night w/about 60k restored. I'm sure 10% or more cant take power period.

Havent heard about TVA but heard they lost a transmission line which is NOT good.

Good point Johnny. People may be okay, but unable to get word out. It's going to be a spell before normal communications are restored.

Horrible stuff...this season is one of the worst tornado seasons on record, according to the news here.

I talked to him via text earlier. He and his room are ok.
