Albin Ouschan vs Mike Dechaine - Winner's Bracket Round 3

This US Open is so weirdly interesting.

If Appleton and Boyes both win their matches respectively, then they'll have to face each other in the next round.

Orcollo and Reyes are about to face each other.

Strickland and SVB are about to start.

What is going on with the world!!!!

Looking at the brackets, I see that Mike won, 11-9.

Faces Klatt in the next round. Winner of that gets the winner of Efren/Orcollo.

OK, I'm back. Interesting match. Albin got most of the rolls, as Mark Wilson made clear. Mike had a 900 accu-stat rating (to Albin's 843) so he should have won more easily, although a skid on a five ball at 8-7 dug him a hole and Albin had a chance to win it.

Mark Wilson did another great job. It was a match with many emotional ebbs and flows, and Mark was quick to make note of how the players handled some of the ups and downs. Brandon Shuff observed that both of these guys may win a US Open one day.

Finally, Mark often complimented Mike's safeties. Albin certainly kicks well, too, and his kicking is what gave him a chance.

We can only hope that the next two stream matches are this exciting.

So Mike came back strong against the number 6 ranked player in the world who got all the rolls to win? Yeah I'm sure Mike gives a rats a$$ what Wilson thinks.

Meanwhile Sossei wins with a forfeit then loses to some guy I have never heard of. LMFAO. This event will make clear who the top USA players are.

It was always clear even before this. Mike D is right behind Shane, a few guys are right to the side of him or maybe a bit behind. The guys on the Mosconi cup team are behind those guys.

Go Mike D. keep firing in those balls!!! Great job!!!

Another tough opponent on deck in Jason Klatt. Jason hasn't looked his best this week, but he was sensational in coming 3rd at the Derby City 9-ball event this year. It can go either way.

Who are these players who play like Mike and above Justin Bergman?

Archer, Strickland, Morris. Any of them would be better in the Mosconi Cup, they will handle the pressure and play smarter to win. Although I guess you can't keep using the same players. Too bad all the trully top US players are getting old and the new ones can't play up to the world standards except for a couple. There is no Strickland, Archer, Hall, Siegel, Varner anymore except for SVB.

Yeah, except that Strickland is winless on the Joss Tour this year and has been dominated by Mike. When they played an exhibition race, Mike won 25-11. Earl is not in the same league as Mike, and he keeps on proving it.

Yesterday, I saw Mike get every bad roll imaginable, including losing a rack to a skid at a critical moment, but he was extremely composed and fought hard to the end to beat Albin. Earl, by comparison, got one or two bad rolls and, not only did he fail to stay composed, he quit on the match. By Mark Wilson's and by my estimation, Earl mailed it in at 10-6, failing to give due thought to a kick on the two ball, deservingly his last shot of the match.

Earl lacks composure, but Mike fights to the end. That's one of many reasons that when they find themselves in the same event, virtually every time, Mike finishes higher.

Every time you mention Mike, which is every other post, I'm going to mention Sky. :D

Which will be every other post.

World ranking numbers don't tell all , I highly doubt. Albin is a top 10 9 ball player
And there's plenty of guys you have not heard of that can play

Sky.

Sky vs Archer should be fun today. Fear I may miss the stream, though, because of a lunch appointment.

Rooting for Sky for sure .... and not only because it keeps our bet alive.

What struck me about yesterday's matches was the speed of the two matches Sky and Archer were in. They took a really, really, really long time. The next round of matches was beginning, and Sky and Archer's matches were still going from the previous round. :o

Not sure if their opponents were slow. Slow play really stinks up a tournament chart, big time. Everybody has to wait.

I hope Sky does not get intimidated by veteran Johnny Archer's table demeanor, to include his killer instinct. It can be overwhelming if you haven't encountered it before. Off the table, Johnny is a nice guy. On the table, he pulls out all the punches and does whatever it takes to win. It takes a veteran to combat some tactics used in the heat of the battle. It will be interesting to see how Sky handles him. :D
