When Guapo was asked about Alex, he says:

"I look up to Alex, I like the way he goes about his business..... he is just a sound guy."

When Alex was asked about Guapo, he says:

"I'm gonna open a can of whoop-ass on him and beat him until he's bust...give him some money and bust him again, then give him $50 to get home."; "I'm gonna send him into retirement!"

Way to be a gentleman, Alex! *ROLLING MY EYES*

I hope Guapo guts him for that. People not familiar w/ the Guapomeister might blindly pick Alex (he IS the favorite), but I watched Karl take down GIANTS in the IPT. If Karl wins, I hope he throws Alex more than $50 - just to show how much class he has.

I'm pretty certain that Alex was using hyperbole and just messing around, trying to be funny. Alex don't have a mean bone in him and he loves playing around like that. I think he's woofin' it up just to draw more interest.
As for Alex grocery shopping for a can of whoop-a$$ on Karl, he better just leave it on the shelf. Alex is an elite player, but he couldn't lick his lips in a real fight.

Alex woofing wont get more viewers on their free broadcast. It's not like they're gambling. I get it, trust me pal. I was just pointing out the differences in each player's approach to the match.

I guess you either like Alex's cocky banter or you don't. For some reason, I love the cockiness of Strickland, McCready, Daulton and the smooth cockiness of Cardone... but Alex seems abrasive for someone 3'9".
 
Alex is the NUTS! He is one of the best guys in pool period. He EXUDES class and grace. He truly has the heart of a lion. The statement he made was "tongue in cheek" and true to Alex's comic nature. You can be sure that he certainly does not take any top player lightly.

I find it funny that on one hand we say that action and head to head matchups are the future of pool and on the other we expect our players to always behave like Miss Manners.

Watch UFC and you will see warriors that trash talk a little but are always gracious to each other after the fight.
 
I'm sure Alex was kidding. He is a funny guy... jovial, friendly, an all around nice person. I can't imagine him saying anything disrespectful like that about anyone.

By the same token, pool will never return to the days of Willie Mosconi in a ballroom and tuxedo. It just ain't gonna happen.

Somewhere in between UFC and Ballroom Dancing is where pool's present and future are.

And a reasonable amount of trash talk is not only, in my opinion, acceptable, but preferable.

I can almost guarantee you that Karl knows Alex is just kidding around.
 
It's weird - I feel like I'm defending myself, and I'm not sure why.

I love trash-talking, woofing, etc, more than anymore. I think it needs to be a part of pool. My OP was to show the different styles. One guy had a respectful quote and the other didn't.

that's my only point - it's my last post in this thread.
 
If I played like Alex I'd woof at Evander Holyfield like that. He may be 3'9, UNTIL he walks to the table. Then that little bastard is a 10ft tall big bastard. Alex is as I've heard say of other players, "elite".
 
Did you read, hear or watch on TV what Alex said... If you watched, I bet he had a smile the entire time. He gives respect to all players and jokes non stop. For him to say something like the other guys, I would guess that he thinks he sucks and is going to kick his ass. For him to joke about cleaning the floor or whatever, is him saying, I will be in a good match.

If you ever meet Alex, you will get it.

Except that if you know Alex then you know that his was respectful as well.

You derided him for not being a "gentleman". So yeah, you need to defend that point of view from those of us who don't really see where Alex deserves that derision.

I didn't deride anyone. When you read his quote it's a stark contrast from Karl's (which is all I was saying). Are you being SERIOUS???? JB Cases calls ME out to defend my original post saying I'm deriding Alex P of all people??? Am I on f-ing Candid Camera or something? I'm waiting for the Punk'd girl to walk in and point to the hidden camera or something.

I guess so. I made a post to create a little controversy and I got cornered. JB was a little outta line to say I was deriding Alex.

I just wish this thread went away - apparently, my original post didn't come across the way I intended, that's all. The more you defend yourself on a misinterpreted post, the worse it gets. It's like a nightmare.

I love to watch Alex play and carry on. I think he's just the kind of player pool needs to get it stirred up. I'm sure like all of us his mouth engages before his brain once in awhile. Like someone else said, I'm sure if you saw this interview that he was smiling and joking all the way. And PLEASE don't compare how Earl acts to Alex...not even close. Johnnyt
 
Well maybe it was the rolling of the eyes or the reference to his height. Come on you know he isnt 3"9" right? Would you say that to his face? Would you say that while Ronnie Wiseman was standing next to him? I wouldnt. But you should be given slack on this. Im not offended. I'd love to sweat this match and Iba this time we'd be on the same team.
I believe Gwapo is such a gentle human being he'd laugh a good laugh and get down with the Manong. Its young peoples talk anyway. 20 years from now they'll be some young buck telling the same thing to Alex.
