I wonder what the majority of azers think about having a real people forum vs the alias forum or both keep it as it is

1. Real people using their own names.

2. Alias nicknames only.

3. Or both, keep it as it is.

I'd like a forum with real names.

I'd also like Ed McMahon to knock on my door with a 7 figure check or have the new off shore bank account that Rachael Uchitel now surely has.

Some posters claim they have a reason for needing to stay anonymous. I'm not sure if that's because they've done some people wrong in the past or what. Maybe this thread will help us understand why some people are "anonies".

I think we should have handles but underneath it we should have our real names. I just feel that it might stop some people from being out of line and cowards. Personally I have put my name out there and people know who I am, cool to meet people outside of AZ but through here.

I have also had personal attacks from this, prank calls, harassment in chat rooms and whatnot but to be honest it does not bother me too much. They know who I am and I do not know who they are, they are just cowards in my eyes and deep inside they know that or otherwise they would just call and say "This is Billy Bob and I want to say $#%@ you!"

Did any of this hairassment cause you the sudden hair loss so apparent in your new avatar?

That really would be a treat if Ed McMahon knocked on your door especially since he is dead.

Well I'll be honest with you guys my how I thought of my screen name Rob_jerrylee is my real name is Rob and the Jerrylee part is the name of my Germen Shepherd . Its simple as that .:)

Well said Lenny. Some people go way too far and take this stuff much too serious. If you're gonna flame stand up and put your name and face behind it. Rep+++

I like the idea of being known by a nickname. But if you dig enough you can find out who I am. If I have a problem with someone this board is not, nor should it be, where it gets taken care of.

I think that the internet is a Holy Place of Truth.

Therefore, we should all display our real names, and if there are any real questions or concerns, our "About Me" should list our cell phone numbers and home addresses so that we can provide immediate responses to those questions.

I mean seriously: how dare anyone get on the internet and lie or state an opinion without being fully accountable.

You walk in a store and give them your credit card. The cop stops and you give him your driver’s license. You probably also give your driver’s license to just about anyone else who wants two pieces of ID. Your employer probably knows more about you than your mother. You register for classes and give your ID, credit card and where you can be reached through your best friend. You also give all this info, including your nearest relative’s phone number to just about anyone from whom you want credit. All of your current and past love relationships know even more about you (including your sexual preferences) and can divulge it if they are ticked at you. Have you ever stopped to think how many times you give someone your social security number (though it is illegal for them to even ask) and on top of that the damn thing is right there on your driver’s license.

In a restaurant you give the waiter (who just got paroled) your credit card and he walks into the back room to swipe it once (or twice). You place all your bills with account information in your trash and place it on the curb where it is now “public.”

On top of all that you passwords are probably a variant of your birthday, your dog’s name, or your girl friend’s middle name – did you think we did not know that you are too lazy to try for better encryption?

Did you really think that your teachers, coaches, buddies at the hall and all of your other “friends” and acquaintances won’t tell me all that I want to know about you?

And most telling of all, some guy in a bar asks your name and address and you give it to him, your business card too if you have one. So what is the big deal?

I have helped put more people in prison than most people on this forum have had birthdays and I am easy to contact or find. The “I must remain anonymous” is nothing more than a way to hide and snipe. Personally, I discount by at least 75% anything said by anyone who hides his ID. I bet I am not the only one who sees it this way.

All the comments in the world won’t change that. If someone needs to hide behind a pseudonym my first reaction is, “Why is he doing that?” There must be some reason. The internet is like a huge telephone book. If you want to find someone, look them up. What you get you may or may not like. You probably use the same handle here that you use other places and you have said more here and other places that would all lead to you.

So if anyone needs to remain anonymous, for whatever reason, I think you should know that the rest of us assign zero or less credibility to what you say. I may read your comments and even go see the web site you recommend but I do not believe much of anything you say.

More damage has been done to the use of internet forums through the use of pseudonyms than any other single action, excepting of course identity theft. In more than 10 years on the net I have had two attempts at identity theft both were stopped within a week and one person is probably serving time. Nobody has ever come looking for me and that includes well over 1,000 people I have helped place in prison (not jail but prison).
I know that my comments will not change anyone’s mind but it is something to think about. Why do you need to hide? You can run but you can’t hide in the rest of your life.

ID Theft Issue??????

I am on several forums that are not Pool related. Some of them require real names but don't double check the names. Therefore I use a different name on each forum. I get E mail or Regular Mail from a 100 different advertisers addressed to my alias names. I personally think putting your real Name on the world wild Internet opens you up to ID Theft. The last thing I would what to do is Post under my real name that I had Valuable Cue Stick Collection sitting in my house waiting for someone to steal. Of course I don't have a Cue Collection and a pawn shop might offer me $ 100 for all of them. But I wouldn't want some crook to trash my house because he couldn't steal enough to buy crack.

Now I think a lot of people like to brag on the Internet that they are Rich and therefore are great or great big. They might not realize the problems they are asking for.

Why didn't you sign this with your real name? And, why is your screen name "JoeW"

Really, it's the internet. You guys are making a big deal out of nothing.

I very much agree with you. You also don't tell people stuff that is none of their business at a party and you should have enough sense not to talk about these things in the mall or a pool hall. I agree that some people don't have very much sense. However, when you know that someone is an insurance agent, a doctor, lawyer or indian chief you can make a pretty good guess about what is in his house. It is always good to be cautious in one's business affairs. Those with high value cue sticks probably have other things of high value and it doesn't take much to figure that out.

JoeW is my name and it is easy to type. click on my signature, then click on my full name and you can learn much.

I see nothing wrong with a handle, I see much wrong with hiding your ID.

I've been known as Big Perm for 10+ years....most of my friends call me Perm.....some call me a$$hole....
