Allison and CUETEC

Everyone knows that Allison Fisher is sponsored by CUETEC, and that she shoots with a CUETEC, My question is, what type of shaft she uses. She doesn't use a glove, and EVERY Cuetec shaft I've ever touched gets sticky. So, is she using a custom shaft or what?:confused:
 
I heard she picks the ones she wants off the shelf. Then I've heard she gets to pick from cues made to her specs. She doesn't need a glove. She's so cool she doesn't sweat. Johnnyt

You know I was thinking about this same question yesterday when I was watching her on TV. The ferrule on her cue was really small. Like a 314-2 small.....

Lol. Johnnyt you're right. She is totally cool!

I got a chance to mingle a bit with Allison during the '08 APA NTC's. I had a booth right next to her's during the whole event (10 days). She is definitely cool people.

TAP- She doesn't use a custom shaft. Her current shaft is the cuetec R-360, which is suppose to be low-deflection. Prior to that she did use the standard Cuetec shaft.

My friend shoots with a Cuetec. Not sure what shaft it is, and I've only shot 4 shots with it (need to do further research for sure), but it had a really nice hit. Cuetec shaft for sure, most likely a 'regular' one since there is no symbol, and that it was a gift. It really impressed me.

Edit: The shaft is just like any other - my friend uses no chalk or glove, even though she has both.

I seen an interview where Allison was talking about her new R360 shaft right before it came out. I was watching her the other day on Espn, normaly she shoots with the white cue, this time she had a dark cue which looked like those Thunderbolt or python series. Never seen her with a dark cue before.
 
Give her a broom handle and you still need orange crush. The cue isn't the thing its the practitioner that uses it:ok: .

This is of course completeley baseless but I doubt she would really play with a CUETEC unless she absolutely had to for the sponsorship.
 
I didn't know Allison played with a cuetec shaft. I assumed she played with a custom shaft. I was told Earl played with a Gulyayssy shaft all time he used that white cuetec.

The reverse of this assumes that the Cuetec is not good enough to play with? So the question then becomes why would Allison risk her career on a cue that doesn't work?

Why does someone always make this statement?

Could it be perhaps that the cue plays just fine and Allison feels quite comfortable with it? Maybe she has has tweaked it with a certain tip or ferrule or even sanded it to a certain taper but what does that matter?

All of us tweak our cues in some way or another.

Or perhaps in the long relationship with Allison Cuetec has learned certain things about what she likes and built them into their cues.

Obviously the cue works as she is often seen running out and winning championships with it.

I really don't get why nearly everyone bashes Cuetec here. The cues are perfectly fine for playing pool and the company is one of the few that has consistently put money back into the game.

Are we really that snobby and clueless? It's just another cue made in a different way. Some people like them and others don't. So what? There are different tennis rackets, golf clubs, fishing poles and so on.....to each his own. But you all act like Cuetec is the devil or something.

Oh, you know what I am really tired of all this - it's time to split from AZ for a while....

Which, if true, would mean that when Earl said (after being sponsored by Cuetec for 17 years and winning several world and national titles while being sponsored), "Cuetec ruined my game" then he really meant 'Gulyassy ruined my game'. And it would also mean that he defrauded Cuetec by accepting their sponsorship money and not playing with their equipment.

But it's not true.

Earl played with a Cuetec shaft that was heavily sanded to thin out the taper, presumably to get it closer to the Meucci he played with before. At least this was my observation when I stood there and watched him hand his cues to the repairman at the US Open one year.

Then again - who knows - and in the end who cares.

If you look very closely when she plays, there is a little Guy named Travis trotter that wipes and buffs her shaft after every stroke.:grin-square:

I don't have any idea which cue Allison uses, or whether, or how, she may tweak it. But the rest of you statements are pretty easy to respond to.

For money. Nothing more, nothing less.

There's an old story about one of Andre Agassi's tennis racquets. He was being sponsored by a particilar manufacturer, but didn't want to change from using his original racquet....so he first had his original racquet painted the colors of his new sponsor's racquet and used that one until the sponsor learned what he was doing. The sponsor then made a custom racquet for him, almost identical to his original one, not theirs...and totally different from the model that the public was able to buy. Happens all the time, it's called advertising and business.

I also have heard that the basketball stars all have very custom made sneakers made by Nike that, aside from looking like the regular production model, are not even close to being designed, or built like them. Here in South Fl almost every new luxury development that was built during the housing boom gave Dan Marino a free condo so that they would be able to advertise "Dan Marino bought one" LOL. Talk about insulting the intelligence of your customer. Does anyone really think that Phil Rizzuto actually borrowed money from the "Money Store", Jessica Simpson has acne problems, or that Ed McMahon actually owned or used the crappy (IMO) Colonial Penn insurance product.....no physical exam..LOL?

But, you're a businessman, and you already know this. :wink:

Bashing Cuetec helps pool

The more people bash Cuetec, the more advertising dollars they have to pump into pool to reach those who are out of the loop. :p

Kidding aside, I used to own a Cuetec and absolutely hated it. I could not get used to it, and believe me, I tried. For that, I will always feel that I have the right to share my experience with any newbie who is considering buying a Cuetec.

I appreciate their support of pool, so I will try not to "bash", but I cannot deny the bad impression their cues made on me. If I get an opportunity to try one of their newer cues I'd be glad to do so, just out of curiosity. To be fair, maybe those are better.

You haven't seen enough Cuetecs. They get bashed which mostly they deserve, but some of their lines most people would be very satisfied with. They've made great leaps in the past several years, so their product deserves a bit more looking into.

So, is she using a custom shaft or what?:confused:

Everyone that has responded to this question in the past that's actually held her cue has confirmed that she plays with a stock Cuetec shaft. I have no idea if she still does, but given my statement above, there's no reason for me to believe otherwise.
