I am so impressed and excited about the response Allison has received from all of you (Cuechick for starting the thread and all the individuals who voted numerous times on behalf of Allison.) I want to personally thank Mike Howerton, Pool & Billiard Mag, InsidePool, Billiards Digest, WPBA, and the APA for prominently displaying the announcement on each of their websites, and the BCAPL and the IPT for sending it to their membership!

I want to encourage all of you to keep the voting alive and take this opportunity to send a quick note to all of your family, friends, and co-workers. Voting ends midnight September 2nd and with all of your help, we can achieve thousands of votes!

If you would be kind enough, please visit the Women's Sports Foundation and vote for Allison. It takes about 15 seconds. http://www.womenssportsfoundation.o...ear-Award/Vote.aspx?type=individual&athlete=5

This is as much about the advancement of billiards as it is an acknowledgement for Allison's achievements. Thank you so much for your continued support of this honorable recognition!

KC,
Thanks for the link (allowed me to vote again).

Allison is a tremendous competitor; and speaking as a fan I can say that it has truly been a privilege to watch her play over the past 10 years. Dominating performances; good sportsmanship; definitely a deserving recipient. Good luck.

Great idea! Alison certainly deserves votes from all pool players...

Aside from the brief descriptions on the web page, she is positive, honest, intelligent, inspiring and determined. She has all the qualities required to represent pool players!

Please vote if you haven't done so!

BCAPL vote for Allison

Krista & others;

Just to let everyone know that the BCAPL sent a 'vote for Allison' a couple of days ago to ALL of our members.

Not sure if the BCA did or not - but the BCA Pool League did. And it was our pleasure to do so - she deserves every honor there is.

Hi Mark:

Thank you for clarifying -- I had the two confused and edited the original post.

We truly appreciate your support.

Kristi,

How many times are we allowed to vote? I voted again and threw in an extra one from my husband, lol.

Great question! I looked through the WSF website and didn't find any details about the number of times or limitations. I know several people who have used various email addresses; but who knows, maybe we can vote continuously with the same one.

Anybody else know otherwise?

Thanks.

Kristi

Bump, only one more day to vote. Looks like you can vote as many times as you want. Don't know if they will get discarded as duplicates though. Spread this to every pool league and player you know!

Here is Allison's original email:

Dear Family, Friends and Fans:

I have a special favor to ask of each of you. I have been nominated
for "Sportswoman of the Year" for my outstanding performance in
billiards. The selection process was not an easy task this year with
the consideration of all the Olympic athletes. So this is a
particularly high honor for me to be nominated among the individuals
selected. In general, this is an incredible opportunity to further
broaden billiards as a viable professional sport. Should I win, it
will bring immediate attention to the general public and media outside
of the billiard industry. I need your support to help make that
happen!

If you would be kind enough, please visit the Women?s Sports Foundation
and vote for me? It takes about 15 seconds. Voting ends midnight
September 2nd.

If you know anyone else who might be interested in taking part, please
feel free to pass this request on.

Thank you so much for your support.

I believe it says that only one vote will count. Presumably that means one vote per email address. I doubt that they are matching votes to the IP addresses of the visitors to the site.

Simply spread the word and encourage everyone you know to vote. That way it's for sure that the votes count and they get a lot higher response rate.

Multiple Votes Allowed

I just received notice from the WSF that you can vote as many times as you like using the same email address.

Come on everybody just a few more hours to go!

KC,
Just another bump with a story and photo. Being originally from western Pennsylvania; I naturally idolized Arnold Palmer; and admire athletes who exhibit a measure of dedication to their fans (Arnold is well known to sign autographs until EVERYONE is accommodated)

While at DCC last winter, a friend and I were to meet at the television table then go to dinner. Who should be sitting there watching the match (straight pool I believe) at ringside but Allison Fisher, Kristi Carter, and Kim Shaw. My friend (much to my great, great embarrassment) takes her camera up to the group, and insists that I get a photo with Allison and Kim; knowing that I am a big fan of both players (and I think hassled Kristi into taking the photo - I was WAY too embarrassed to point out that I would have preferred to have KC in the photo as well - she can PLAY, and is somewhat of an Indiana legend).

Despite the ongoing straight pool match, and despite the embarrassing circumstances (with a large crowd watching); Allison smiled like a trooper. Definitely above and beyond the call of duty; and showed the depth of her professionalism in the "Palmer" tradition. A great example for all of the women players (the men may be beyond learning by example).

Here's the pic; with apologies to all concerned:

Kristi,

I didn't know about this, although cooincidentally I mentioned Allison in another thread about "class" just a few days ago.

I saw you play at the women's event at Valley Forge last year. I was impressed by your game! (And thought you were quite easy on the eyes while playing it  )

I hope this works, but I just voted, pressed the back button, pressed submit vote again, etc. like 20 times in a row.

Hope it helps, Allison deserves it.
