Alternate break is ruining pool

Race length matters. Winner break for sure if the race is long enough. If the race is to 5 though, winner break can be a huge advantage. You wanna bet the whole match on the lag?

Professionals shouldn't be playing a race to 5.

what you need is more entries in tournaments. and more entries equate to more players having a chance rather than the top 4 taking all the money away every tournament.

the setup of the tournamnet needs to make it more of a crapshoot so the best players still will win over time but not every time.

Agreed.

I'll also say, I don't think Pro's should ever be doing a race to 5, 7 or even 9. 15 at least.... prefer 21 or 25. Let winner break and let it go. If a fella beats me with a 21 game run-out, I'll tip my hat to him and go get a beer.

Each week, a new poster comes along about bla bla bla is ruining pool.

Instead, it's simply the people, the dumbshits, sharks and hustlers.

Meanwhile, Snooker is more successful that pool ever was, continues to be and is getting bigger every year.
They do alternate breaks.
They do strict crowd control.
They have absolute silence when players play.
They do everything you think is ruining pool - and they're winning.

Just listen to Ronnie O'Sullivan talking about the crowd at the German Masters.
He said, it's the best one, very respectful.

Americans surely are twisted when they think watching a six pack (I even can't stand your naming) is the best a pool match can give you and this "winner takes it all" will lead to anything.

Meanwhile, we grow pool AND Snooker in Europe by not caring about your stupid rules.

Cheers,
M

Meanwhile, snooker is dying in Canada like cockroaches, and being replaced with pool tables....LOL

Nope, Pro's should be playing a race to 21, 3 hour match time limit, no double elimination that way there is no second chances, AND a match should be called with a declared winner when there's a 10 game spread between players as a miss match as to not bore the spectators, or drag out a 9 hour later win, thus the 3 hour time limit, somone is a winner when the bell rings!!

What does that have to do with race length?

What other sport allows the amateurs to compete against the Pros? Shorter races was born out of the need to keep lesser skilled players to keep paying their entry fees as thats the majoity of the prize money payout!!

ALL pool tournaments are nothing more than a ring game with the purpose of chopping up the entry fee money as the payout for the winners, added money make up very little of the prize money fund. Shorter and shorter races were and still are required to keep the weaker players involved in olaying in the tournaments as it keeps their hopes alive that they have a CHANCE to win, along with shorter races comes the alternating breaks, once again giving the lesser players at least a chance to shoot every other game. Racking aids make up for the lack of skills when it comes to breaking, so that to also gives the weaker player a more even chance to win as they don't want to take the take the time to practice. With a magic rack, all they have to do is listen to how everyone else breaks and make balls on the break, then they just practice that break as they can now make a ball on the break....just like everyone else is doing. I don't care if all these rules are hurting pool or helping it, my concern is that none of these bulshit rules are getting this sport any closer to having a Professional division of pool players to draw upon to represent this sport at it's highest level of play, and as long as ANYONE with an entry fee can enter all these pool tournaments, even if they've NEVER even held a cue stick in their hand, then this sport will forever remain broken and disorganized and never really amount to anything!!!

Not sure of the table and I only saw the last 4.....
But on the Roy's Basement stream the other day it was said Ignacio ran a 7 pack in 10 ball!
I love his game!! Probably only took him 15 min or so! lol
Winner breaks is the best. Dodong had his chances too.
Btw took a big whooping in Straight Pool the other night. It was a great night. I don't cry about it. I'm learning..........

The funny thing is, ANY amature can pay an entry fee to play in most ANY pool tournament in thus country without ever having to hear the words, "No, you're not allowed to play, you're a Pro" and yet, what are the chances a Pro is denied entry to a lot of the same events? And before anyone gets dumb, I'm not say the Pro is rejected at ALL tournaments, but at some time WILL be denied, whereas the amateurs will NEVER be denied!

You know exactly what it means. What are you thinking for your next screen name?

I am confused...you guys think I am this "Brags" character? Isn't he the guy who ran out the same 9 ball table faster than the fastest player in the world...what's his name again...oh ya Luc Salvas?

Just wondering, does this have anything to do with the discussion at hand?
