My buddy & I were playing some nine ball last week as we normally do when he suggested maybe starting next month we play $10 a man for a month & whomever is in front by the end of the month gets the dough but here's the thing we're pretty even but he can pull off shots from anywhere is this his way of maybe trying to hustle some coin out of me?.

Yes, you're being hustled. He has been working your friendship for 6 years in hopes to scam you out of an easy $10.

This is not a "hustle" but an outright challenge. I would accept it and fire back at him every chance.

Its possible your friend just wants to improve and put a little pressure on himself. Winning is harder when you have something to lose.

Yes, I agree with Cleary.

He's offering a $10 bet to get some money involved to build up a little pressure. It will be good for your game as well...as long is you're looking to improve.

If that's a "Hustle", its about the worst one I ever seen!!!

They haven't finished yet. OP is gonna win this session by a landslide and in 10 years his buddy will have the bet jacked up to $11 per month (adjusted for inflation, of course). Then he might show some speed.

Sounds like a classic hustle to me, except it just took a while to develop.
The only advice I can offer is make him post

You mean you play even but he is better than you?

Cleary can smell a scam a mile away. I'm also guessing he's also a cold war sleeper agent, except he never received his telefon call. Pay close attention, his russian, north korean, manchurian chinese accent may slip through when he's drunk and slurs his speech. :D

I play in a handicap league. I'm a better shotmaker than most players at my handicap level, but I don't know how to move the ball, or make position so my win/loss ratio won't let me move up.

You say you're about the same as your friend, except he's a better shot maker. How about safety play, position, thinking ahead and picking the right shot?

For someone with over 400 posts this sounds like a very noobish question. I've seen D and C players who can make shots that pros would not try, 1 good shot, even 1 good shot a rack, does not equal a good player. What does your friend do for a living that he wants to spend a month trying to make a ten? Maybe he said "10 grand" and you missed the second part? Or maybe "10 plus he gets your car"?

For someone with the name "9 Ball" you seem awfully scared to play the game for a mere $10. And btw, I hope this is $10 a rack, and not $10 for the whole month!

Not sure if you're saying $10 flat for the whole month or $10 per game/set and keeping score for a month. If it's the latter, you're getting hustled.
:p
