Landon Shuffet is on the Finals against J. Newman. This young man is on the move after giving it all against 2006 winner of the 14 & under, Austin Murphy, 7-1, sending him to the loser's bracket.

On the 19 & U: Our very own AZer, Tanner Pruess, gave a great feat against the tough playing Tyler Van Wulven, 9-7 Tyler being the winner. Great playing there, Tanner! Tyler is in the finals against Richard Barney; whom Barney defeated Daniel Rakin (who went to the Jr. Internationals  ) 9-2. So this final will be a nail biter!

On the young bloods of 14 & U, as the "Dayton Tiny Terror" Liz Lovely was a no show, the finals will be of last year's 3rd place finisher, N. Jaynes versus Briana Miller.

Last but not least, the 19 & U will spark as the 2006 Jr. Women's gold medalist, Mary Rakin, will square-off against Nicole Keeney for all the braggin' rights :p .

Let's give our props to all these skilled competitors who competed in this tournament!

I'm really torn over this one. I have been following Landon's progress for quite some time, and always like to see him do well. But Josh's dad called me last year and asked me to work with him, so my loyalty has to go to one of my students.

Go Josh!!!!!
(Sorry, Stan!)

I was there for the collegiate nationals and managed to catch some of the action from the juniors, but had to leave on friday and didn't get to watch the shuffett-murphy match.

For the 14UB -- Bar none, on the first day, the kid that impressed me the most was Austin Murphy. I know that Landon must have seriously played his heart out to beat Austin 7-1. I talked to Landon a little before the match and he said that he was going to take it down. I guess he did. Although it seems that Austin must have had a tough time breaking the balls since he most likely did not even get a break-and-run. Other than these 2 kids, I thought Billy Thorpe's game was going to really get better later on, and if Josh Newman is the kid with the glasses and the crew cut, he plays a lot better than he looks. I still hope Landon wins it this year.

For the 19UB -- I thought Chad Palmer had the makings of a monster but he unexpectedly went 2-and-out. Ryan Dunn also really impressed me with his mental game. DJ Holloway looked like he would be a really great player in the future. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to watch Tyler or Barney play. Daniel Rakin and Adam Behnke are of course great players.

For the 19UG, although Mary is most likely slated to win (she won the internationals last year) I do like Nicole's game and I hope she makes Mary work for it.

SlickRick is absolutely right about the future of American pool burning really bright.

Congratulations to a deserving Richard Barney for making the finals. We're rooting for you!

Andy

I just got off the phone with Stan Shuffett. Landon beat Josh Newman in the finals in a hill-hill battle to with the 14 and under. Both Landon and Josh will be going to Germany to represent the USA in the worlds.
Congratulations to all the young players who were at the Jr Nationals this year.

This boy is the "prodigy"!! Hands down!!

Congrats to Landon and his pops, Stan, on my behalf as well as all those competitors that were even in attendance!

Congratulations to Landon. He is a great kid and a great player. I am glad to see he prepared himself well and stayed focused on his goal. Very few people ever achieve a National Championship in any discipline. I am sure his father is very proud of him, and he should be proud of himself as well.

Just As An Update To The Jr. Nationals...richard, "the Kid", Barney Won 1st Place In The 19 And Under Group. His Last Match To Win, He Went Up Against Chris Futrell And Won 11-6. He Is Given The Opportunity To Represent The United States In The Jr. World Open In Germany. Can You Tell I'm The Proud "kid's Mom"?! I Couldn't Be More Proud Of Him!!

Have a picture? I never got to watch one of his matches.

Many Congratulations...

As a personal friend of Richard Barney and his family, I cannot begin to say how happy and proud myself and all of his friends here in Hagerstown, Maryland, are of him. It is great to see all of his hard work and dedication pay off on the national stage. Way to go Richard!!! Good luck in Germany!!!

At the same time I would like to congratulate all of the partcipants for their efforts as well. Having met many of them through Richard, at Valley Forge, or regional tournaments, I can see a very bright future for U.S. pool with all of the talent they possess. It is a shame that there can be only one winner, but let us hope they all keep up the practice so they can thrill us all down the road. Great job everyone!!!

DJ Holloway shoots on my BCA team and is a great kid. He's very intelligent, laid back and level headed guy. I promise this wont be the last time you hear about him. Congratulations on a great tournament DJ and i'll see ya tomorrow night at league!!!!

Congrats to all the players, but especially to Mary Rakin who is bringing the girls title back to SF/Daly City once again. Woo hoo!!

Tanner, tell us about your experience at the event. Were you comfortable shooting? How did your matches go? What were the playing conditions like? Inquiring minds want to know! :D

Does anyone know where I can find this year's brackets? The BCA site only carries last year's, or is it too soon to expect completed brackets?

God bless good old Virginny. We've got a champion among us, whom I had neglected to remember, but have not forgotten: Chris Futrell.

What a finals match between him and Richard Barney, all the way to the infamous double hill. It must have been thrilling to see!

I'm sure he'll be competing in the upcoming Virginia State 9-Ball Championship, to occur this weekend.

Picture of runner-up Chris Futrell at the 2005 Virginia State 9-Ball Championship with the TD and promoter, the beloved "Mayor of Richmond" himself, Josh Dickerson! :)

I felt really good shooting on a 9ft since it was actually my 2nd tournament on them. We played on some really good Gold Crowns with 4.5 inch pockets. The tables played really great.

Tables were great, yes. The rails responded well but in the beginning because the cloth was brand new it was tremendously hard to play on. It was like slippin and slidin. I think when the juniors came in the cloth was better to play on. I don't know how many inches the pockets were, but they were in fact very generous, taking in almost 2.1-2.2 balls, with a pretty shallow shelf.
