Another Newbie

My husband has been a member here for a while and I have read many of the posts as a visitor, but I never really thought much about signing up and posting, until we met a couple of other AZ'ers in Vegas during the 9-Ball Southwest Challenge.

I met my husband 17 years ago, at a pool hall. He was a pretty good player, I didn't even know how to spell pool. I spent years going to pool tournaments to watch him play. I dabbled a bit, but never really had the bug. I guess I figured I could never get to his level so what was the point.(I am too competative to just settle for ok)

Last year we joined an APA league (He's an SL7 in 8 & 9 I just went up to an SL 3 in both). We initially joined at the urging of my best friend who wanted to play. I figured what the heck, it was another night we could spend hanging out together.

Well, he and I played Southwest Challenge with another member of our APA team and Won! I went 6-1 in my matches and for the first time, I knew I could be much better than ok. Guess you could say I now have the bug.

Glad to be here and looking forward to making new pool friends everywhere!

Glad you're here, but be careful with what you say. They have people here called 'moderators' who do nothing all day but spy on posters. The only way to get on their good side is to offer them pizza and beer. Shhh! ;)
 
Welcome to the boards. If you've been hanging out in poolrooms and bars for over 17 years, I suppose I'm saying what you already know, but... just don't believe everything you hear.

For example, SOME people around here will try to make you believe the following outright lies:

---We have free cookies and go to the zoo together on Tuesdays
---Travis Trotter can beat his dad at pool
---Moderators can be bribed with beer
---Crawfish stabs people
---John Fiedelschnitzer can beat up Chuck Norris, and
---Good things can come from a Blue Diamond chalk treatment recipe of "rope, vaseline, strong magnet, cigarette paper and a 300 lb woman"

I'm just saying, some AZB wisdom is just plain wrong, here. It's just like a poolroom. Welcome.

This is a good place to hang out. Good people and lots of knowledge.
