We hear on here all the time about bad behavior, poor sportsmanship, dumping, splits, all kinds of business being done by U. S. players. I don't hear this from other countries. If there are bad behaved players from other countries...who are they? If there are just a few I have to believe the promoters in the U. S don't enforce the rules and the players themselves that match up with the Earl's just turn their heads and play them over and over again . Johnnyt

Well, there was always Alex Higgins, who was penalized for poor behavior, but he was one of the most heralded players of his era. His fan base was huge, even though he exhibited those Earl-like outbursts. In facet, Higgins in some ways broke the rules far worse than Earl. :p

I think fame in the pool world can sometimes create what I term as "poolebrities." They are well known in pool circles, but get them out in mainstream America, and they're just like you and me. The poolebrities don't understand reality as well as we do. ;)

Then you have the humble ones like Efren. In fact, most of the Filipinio champions are very easy-going and exhibit good tableside behavior.

When Alex was alive, he had quite a few distractors, much like Earl. Today, however, he is heralded as one of the great ones whose memories are cherished.

Well I'll take that as one even though it's from snooker.:p. Johnnyt

You don't see it as much over seas because they don't pamper and kiss the asses of a-holes in general over there like this milk toast liberal society does here.

One that comes to mind is Quentin Hann of Australia who played the IPT. He's originally a snooker player.

Mika can be a whinny brat. Not the worst by any means but still worth mentioning.

I Thought of him also. I wonder if he was always like that or did he pick it up playing out of the U. S. all these years. Johnnyt

Mika, don't know about dumping of splitting, but he acts pretty childish at times, and I'm sure we have all seen the game agains Shane where he stops the cueball with his stick to prevent a break out after he fouls.

Really no-one takes things to Earl's level that I have seen. Was watching some of his 10' table match vs Shane when he was complaing at everyone in the audiance about sharking him and talking and moving, saying how bad thing happen to him all the time when he gets a tough shot. One of the few times I have seen him live he spend half of his time while not shooting saying how he does not get any respect for his skill.

You have to watch the video of the Mosconi cup that was re-broadcast in Russia where they are drinking and smoking. I remember one of the commentators saying (in Russian), wonder why the snooker players don't play pool much, the other one said "when they stopped letting them get drunk and smoke they decided it was not a fun game". The Euro players here pretty hammered, Alex especially. Reminded me of when Joe Namath was drunk on the sidelines and was trying to kiss the reporter talking to him LOL, they both had the same look.

I remember the incident in China. That was funny. :o

Is it really necessary to add to the already tarnished image. I just believe this thread only serves to highlight more negativity. I agree that it is all well earned, but really why bring it up just to bring it up?

P.S. I agree that it needs to be said before or after someone does something dispicable but not just to talk about it.

I'll see if I can locate it. That sounds so funny! :p

Every sport has these "bad boys." Golf has a couple. I can't remember the guy's name, but I can see his face, a blond guy.

It does add a little color to the sport, as long as it doesn't get violent a la Nancy Kerrigan and Tanya Harding, though that brought a lot of attention, to include a larger fan base, to ice skating thereafter. :o

Actually I think they were talking about the US winning most of the matches lately (since it was a re-broadcast of an earlier Cup), they wondered why the US was winning so much. The answer was "they no longer allowed drinking and smoking so the Euro players lost interest in pool".

Isn't there some guy from across the pond who throws cues and jumps on tables? That's pretty bad sportsmanship.
