I figured he was top shelf and that prompted my initial question.At my age there wouldn't be any need to try but best wishes for all who have that things work out for the best. I am now going to get back to playing very badly in my basement as I regularly do.

Hey Adam, you can have mine!! The one list he had years ago was on his computer which got washed away in a hurricane. He told me he planned on backing that up in the future with a written copy that he would hopefully never lose. Not that it matters I never heard from him and it has been well over 20 years..

Full time maker . Runs a really nice shop.
What Dennis needs is to move out in the boonies and shut the door from walk-ins.
He does not have the heart to say no to the locals who've bought cues from him.
They come in for tips and piddly repairs and take up a ton of his time .
Not to mention the phone calls .
Anyone who owns a Searing who is a driving distance from him would do want anyone else to install tips on their shafts even. So, he gets a ton of foot traffic .

Heck of a welder . Loved his welding work on those metal tables that carried the lathes . Easy to move around if you had to . They weigh a ton and a half too .

If Dennis is happy you can not buy happiness with.

His shop he had in the Davie area had pool room bums who had nothing to do hanging around all day drinking coffee and BSing.
Not very conducent to running a business.
You telling me you would like this? I guy comes in for a $15.00 tip and stays 4 hours.
They could not tell the difference between hanging with Dennis at the pool room and showing up at his business socially. Nerve knows no bounds, some even wanted to do their own repairs using his tools.
I have a good friend of 40 years who does my gunsmithing. When I go there it is very clear you talk about what you came for and that's it because he is busy and this is not a social visit.

Jason was kind to share his opinion and from what i can glean his choices are solid.
This is what attracted me to custom cues. I've seen several cues with that kind of exquisite design on these forums. The one that comes to my mind first is a particular Mobley. I think it was called the Afterburner. Simple rectangular inlays with veneers, sized, placed, and color coordinated just so.
Having said that, I was surprised by how much less stunning some makers' cues looked when I saw them in person at SBE. Not all, but some. Most of the cues I've owned have been plain janes, so it was less risky to order a cue based on an online picture. If I were to buy a cue with lots of design details, it would be a finished cue that I saw in person.

Taking FULL payment before starting a cue is a bad practice .
