Any younger pros using standard shafts?

By younger I mean under 30. I've been having trouble finding one who doesn't use a low deflection shaft. I'm not sure what Justin Hall, Compton, Joey Gray, John Morra, etc. play with. Can anybody fill me in?

I'm about to buy a new cue and I'm sitting on a fence as to buy a Schon or Mezz. I've gone through so many threads on this forum regarding standard vs. low deflection and I'm just not sure. It sounds silly, but if just one of these guys plays with a standard then I will go with the Schon. If none of the younger pros are playing standard then, well, that kind of tells you something.

Bergman plays with a Lambros, with the standard maple shaft, I believe. Brandon Shuff plays a Mezz with the plain maple shaft as well. Carlo Biado plays with a Pierce cue, standard shaft.

Not sure what cuemaker made Skylars cue, but it's a standard maple shaft.

Diviney cue.

Skyler always played with OB shafts as long as I have known him. I did talk to his mom a few days ago and he said Diviney had built him a new cue, and Skyler loved the cue, but wanted the Diviney shafts to be just like his old shafts on his current cue. So he is still using his old Diviney cue.

So, that being said, I don't know if he is still playing with an OB shaft, or Diviney shaft.

The shaft, I last saw him playing with had what looked like a 1" ferrule. Unless it's a modified OB shaft, I'd say it's just a maple shaft.

:) "If even just one person under 30 owns an Oldsmobile, then f*ck it, I'm definitely buying an Olds!"

I think it tells you something if, say, "only" 90% of young players are using LD shafts.
It doesn't have to be 100%, to give you a hint what they prefer.
I don't know what the percentage actually is, but of course at least ONE player will use a standard shaft.

Which you probably knew from the start. So it doesn't sound like you really were on any fence.
You already knew what you wanted to buy, so you set up a question that had only one answer,
which guaranteed you could buy the shaft you wanted.

Besides, who says the young guys are the wisest cue buyers in the world?
Younger people are just as susceptible to "Name-Brand-itis" and will pick prestige over performance.

It's not even about what other people are using, you gotta give both types of shaft
a fair test yourself. Otherwise you're not making a rational decision,
you're just following the crowd. You just happened to follow crowd A instead of crowd B.

One reason they may mainly be using low deflection shafts is because of the sponsorship arrangements with the manufacturers, thus not necessarily because they are the best option to go with. Willie Mosconi's world record of 526 consecutive balls without a miss during a straight pool exhibition wasn't done using a Predator cue and that record hasn't been broken :).

Why DOESN'T anyone ever ask what the TOP Taiwanese and Chinese players are using? It seems that they are considered some of the BEST players in the WORLD.

They used to always prefer Southwests and most of them preferred shafts that were at LEAST 13mm.

They were so accustomed to using FAT regular shafts that Predator tried to woo them to LD shafts by creating one just for them.(according to their website), the Predator 314-2 FAT shaft.

So, the question I have is why does the MAJORITY of people who play pool always say that those types of shafts are TOO BIG?

Here is a novel idea. Instead of worrying about what certain pros use why not try some of the different shafts out and see what YOU like to play with best!
