anyone know if Diamond ever came out with new pockets

My guess would be that Diamond bought a zillion of the pockets that leave the marks years ago and doesn't want to trash them. I can't think of any other reason that the major brand in tables would continue to send table after table out for years with the same problem. Johnnyt

Thanks Glenn. I'm sure the black duct tape is the answer. My question is why do I have to use duct tape to solve this annoying problem? Why can't Diamond offer a better solution? Duct tape! Really?

Duramith Balls

They help but dont completely fix the problem. By far the easiest solution to get rid of the actual marks is wet the corner of a magic eraser. Rub the mark out and its like brand new. By the way I am a huge fan of the duramith balls. Had mine a couple years now - no chips scratches or anything. Like brand new once I run them through my ball machine. They really are "harder" and play better.

It's not that I can't get them clean. It just gets old to have to do it over and over again. I can't believe Diamond won't come up with a solution.

I played a few weeks ago on really old Diamond Professional model tables at a pool hall in NC I believe (I was travelling). They must not have been dying the pockets at the time, as they looked a natural leather color, not black. I checked several sets of balls on several tables, and there was not a single mark on any ball.

I thought the color looked good too. In hindsight, IMO it would have been better for diamond to return to the non-dyed pocket when all the complaints surfaced with the black marks. Until they found a reliable solution.

What are the big differences in a 2006 pro am and the 2012 models? Just curious since we are talking specifics.

update

I contacted Brian as Glenn said to do. He told me that the new pockets will be out in a month. He a said there is zero chance of them leaving marks on the balls because there is no dye used on the leather.

You can clean the balls with hand sanitize. Just a dab on your finger and rub it on the marks and its gone. Yes, you will have to clean the balls after but they will look so much better. I have used this for years and never had an issue with it. Hope this helps

I know this works but it gets old cleaning balls every few games.

Well after years of wishing and dreaming I finally upgraded to a 9 foot Diamond pro cut table. As far as a playing table it's great. There are two thing that I hope to get fixed in the near future. The first is how loud it is when you pocket a ball. That will be an easy fix when we tear it down and line the inside with neoprene. The thing that really bother me is the black spots I'm getting on the balls. From what I've read Diamond is working on some new pocket liners to solve this problem. Does anyone know if these are for sale yet?

This product was recommended by Diamond. It's inexpensive and one can will last forever. Can be applied with a throwaway type foam brush.

Update

I was going thru my old posts and found this one I just wanted to say I did get the new pockets from Diamond and Real King Cobra installed them when he redid my table last summer. I'm glad to report I haven't had one black mark on a ball since. As for my table it plays fantastic. I know Glen has had some trouble with some of the members on here but he's hands down the best table mechanic I've ever seen and wouldn't hesitate to welcome him back in my home to work on my table again should it ever need it.
