APA CHEATING ON THE SCORE SHEET- what to do?

I have read all of your advice & this will be my last post, on this subject. I regret making the original post & should have just left it to the league & our local league operator. Having said that, I know now that the league operator has notifyed APA National Headquarters & together they are taking what ever action they feel is neccesary. I'm not at liberty to say what I think will happen, but I have played in this league since the 80's & although this operator & I haven't always agreed, I trust her honesty & know that she is not going to jeperdise her livelyhood by condoning this or assisting a captain to cheat, as some of you have expressed. THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR ADVICE...JER

A few weeks ago I hit the button on my answering machine. It's the captain of the team, we play that night. He says that he has a few players that are close to going up in handicap & he suggests that we get together AFTER the match & ALTER the sheet to help BOTH of our teams. I didn't return his call, but before play began, I asked him how I explain to my players that they are paying $6 to play pool, that they are going to get their asses kicked & I AM GOING TO HELP THE OTHER TEAM DO IT? End of story. NO WAY.Last week our teams meet again. I am a strong 5, even at my advanced age. I got beat by another 5 (4 games) in 6 innings & one of those innings is an out & out saftey. I had to talk to the league operator today & mentioned that I don't get beat like that from 6s or 7s. She grabs the score sheet & tells me that the innings on both sheets match AT SIXTEEN. What's more 2 other scores have been changed. I AM F>>>>>> pissed. Should I call her back & play the recording, from my answering machine?...JER
I haven't read the full thread yet, but yes, absolutely. I suppose tattling could be viewed as unseemly, but this is basically that team stealing from the rest of the league players so it's clear to me which is the lesser of two evils.

I'm surprised they were foolish enough to leave a voicemail. I guess you won't have to wear a wire to your meeting with the other captain.

Jer,
If I were you, I would inform Mary D. of all the facts and let her take the appropriate actions. Tell her about the voice mail and if she wants to hear it, let her. By doing it this way, you absolve yourself from and accusations of making sh$$t up. Like they say: "just the facts".

It's been a while since I played in Illinois so I can't remember Mary's last name, but I'm guessing this is Mary of "Rob and Mary." If so, she's an honest and experienced LO and has a track record of taking severe steps to tamp down on sandbagging. Maybe 4-5 years ago, she (presumably with the involvement of the national office) banned several teams and people and maybe even an entire host location for doing this. I've seen teams disqualified from her tri-annuals and city tournaments as well.

But she can't do anything if nobody tells her what's going on...

Speaking of ridiculous posts... j/k. :)

I'm not sure how your area does it but here in Bakersfield the score sheet packages are at the bar before the match begins and stay at the bar when the match is over and picked up by the League Operator the next day. I can see where a system like this could lead to the home bars captains adding innings after the match was over without the other teams captains knowing about it.

In my old league in Washington we had to mail in our teams score sheet the next day to the local office so there was no chance of tampering once the match sheets were compared and signed by each captain. Seems like a better way to do it.

Either way the captain that did that is shady and should be punished. Unless you are worried about your future relationship with the individual I would call the National office on him/her.

We have a "mailbox" like you see outdoors (That is locked) at several locations for APA and you can drop your packet without fear of it being tampered with. Only the LO and assistants have a key (Not the Bar or Pool Room)

Yep, it's the APA.
I guess it depends on what area you are from and who the LO is. In my area that would be dealt with severly by our APA LO.
On the other hand in our local BCA group that seems to be standard operating procedure.

Forgive me if I'm missing something , but if both sheets are wrong and have been tampered with , doesn't that mean that the captian of both teams were in on it ?

What's your captain say ?

At the end of the night, both captains sign the score sheet & then the HOME TEAM mails them, along with the money to the league operator. From now on I will mail in my own money & score sheet. When I gave the other captain my score sheet , my match showed 6 innings. When the league operator got it in the mail, it was changed to 16 innings. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? MAGIC?...JER

In our league, once both scoresheets are signed by both captains, the money and the scoresheets are placed in an envelope. The envelope is then sealed, and each captain initials on the seam. The envelope is then dropped off at the central bar for the LO to pick up.

At first, I thought the guy taking a digital picture of the scoresheets was a little anal, but after reading the original poster's story, I am rethinking this.

I would say something about it, but not sure what good it would do. While I've never witnessed anything like this I have heard a lot about it on this site. It seems like a if ya can't beat em join em mentality where other teams know they are up against this sort of fudging and cheat to level the playing field.

If you allow cheating to take place and do nothing about it, you are no better than the cheater.

Are you going to post the recording on youtube?
That will get their attention, just do a quick video of
your phone, let the message ring out on the speaker
phone. No one likes a cheater.
Enjoy the day

Hmmm. Wow.

Yea, we have a locked drop box at the hall. Afterwards 'they' drop the sheets in the slot.

Sounds like you need to fill in the score sheet like you right a check.

"Six and 00/100 innings" :)

Or run a piece of scotch tape over the score line.

Scary part is doubtfully this is an isolated occurance in that league , the whole thing is probably dirty. Sucks to just find out now after all those years of play.

Not one damn soul likes my stabbing idea? You know you do. Admit it, my sons, and I'll take care of the rest.

Hasn't anyone been stabbed yet? Just where did this happen? Somebody PM me and let's talk.
