The team as a whole may have had a chance my friend, but none of them did with me. My record in match play was 16-0. That's pretty strong right? With an average score 7-3.

If I did anything more to egg the guy on I'd say it here. Do you question my honesty? I have no reason to lie.

Even if I had egged on the beligerant idiot there is no excuse to hit anybody when they shake your hand. The APA policy states loss of tournament period there is no excuse for using physical violence.

BTW my friend if "Bet $500" meant I'd get punched in the head, it would have happened more then once to me by now. Just keeping it real.

yes your opponent was in the wrong for hitting you and should be banned and the match should be awarded to you.

i just wonder what form of punishment should be bestowed upon you.

as the old saying goes , THERE ARE 3 SIDES TO EVERY STORY. yours , his, and the truth. i am not saying you are lying and i havent heard his side.

the way i see it is you initiated the confrontion by sharking him when you were down 2-0 by asking him to bet when he was about to break. you were the one to kick a sleeping grizzly bear as you put it in post #4.

gambling is not allowed in apa and yet you asked your opponent to bet with you. plus the unsportmanship you displayed in talking to him as he was about to break, which btw you were down 2-0 at that time. very uncalled for by you.

there are guys out there that will smack your head ( drunk or not ) for the arrogant way you come across.

its best you let your playing tell your opponent how good you are instead of your mouth.

just my opinion after reading all your posts twice before deciding to comment.

I don't know why you didn't hit him back after he hit you. Retaliation is self-defense, and you had a ton of witnesses. He would have had a criminal charge on his record for assault and possibly battery. You could have taken it to the extreme (the news) and exposed APA pretty hard.

I was wondering if gambling was allowed in the APA. Sounds like he should have been kicked out of the match at that point and nothing else would have happened, then the other team would have probably won.

Thanks for you concern, I don't want this to turn into a pi$$ing match, but that was the only think I said to the guy and after 3 of their teammates threatened me with bodily harm for asking him to jut sit down and play. Then I siad nothing, won 7 straight and got punched at the handshake. SO HOW WOULD YOU HAVE HANDLED IT DIFFERENTLY??

If you would like to speak with the individual PM me your contact information and I'll see if he can give you his side of the story. Absent that you will just have to take my word for it now won't you?

I never gambled on anything in the APA my friend. Please PM me if you are interested in getting the other side of the story from JJ. Otherwise at this point your presence on my thread is no longer needed or welcome. I really don't like snarky types like yourself, everyone else has been cool here. Why don't you try that for awhile?

Because if I do my team would lose as well. Besides I can't get locked up for kid $hit like fighting idiots. If I was truly threatened I would have broken him in half. The guy would never touch me if his 10 friends weren't there. I outweigh him by 50 pounds and have a 3-0 record, all by KO in the first round.

As far as anybody getting charged for assault. You can't get cops to do anything when the guy is local and has police connections. Just being in the right isn't enough. Apparently the same is true with APA.

They still haven't returned my calls. I have a message into a person there now who was referred by an AZ member, THANKS. Hopefully she is going to call today.

Appears pocketpoint had a valid point about the APA.

Oh yes, because one drunken idiot makes a scene in one bar, that means that EVERY place that has APA must act like that, too....

Of course. How could I ever have missed that?

Sheesh.

Lets keep PP out of this one please.

I'm not saying the APA is a bad thing yet. I will say the national office is completely unresponsive to my requests to even discuss this. I just obtained an email to an individual there and forwarded her eveything I have corresponded to my LO. I asked that she contact me as well. So on customer service alone the get a minus 5.

I hope they know how far reaching this site is. That what is posted here, when done so properly, can influence player's decisions to participate in there leagues.

I was hesitant to do so, but joined this session because my friend asked me to. It was cool enough, playing barbopx is something I don't need to do, everybody here plays 9 foot games mostly. Even so it was challenging to play in a different format on different equipment.

Although the competition locally wasn't strong, my barbox game improved because I was in the league, and I worked on it because of that.

The thing is, going into it I had heard right here on AZ Billiards that there were alot of problems with roudy opponents. One's who couldn't take losing to a more skilled player. Then the events are in bars where drinking is encouraged and the male aggression just takes over.

Myself I wouldn't drink to get drunk and play pool. I want to improve and play my best, alcohol doesn't do that for me. Certainly I wouldn't be getting hammered in a finals event that decides who goes to Las Vegas.

Good Luck

I live in St.Louis and know a few guys from apa and they acknowledged what the lo and his sons in my area did was wrong but they were backing him up anyways. I have some of their personal emails if you want. They are some nasty sob's.

APA calling

I just got off the phone with a gentleman from the APA headquarters and he assures me that my team will be headed to Vegas.

The issue is what will be done with the 3 offenders from the other team. I told him I really don't care about them as much as my team getting what we won. They one should be banned for life and the other 2 should be out for at least the next session and any tournament trips they may have won with other formats.

A meeting will occur in the next week or so and I will be invited as a start witness for the prosecution. Today I am inclined to give them the electric chair, maybe by then just a 30 year sentence, I do have a soft side somewhere.

Thanks all for understanding and supporting my situation. If they stray off the right path I will be sure to post. Otherwise consider this case closed.

Cool.

Good luck in Vegas!

Thanks, couldn't risk this decision to our local Sherriff, had to go right to the top. The guys on the other team are tight with him and they are trying to say all kinds of evil crap about me to hurt my chance of going. Funny thing is that they also had won a Vegas trip for team 8 ball and now that is in jeopardy for 2 of them and for the 1 it's o v e r.

When they are ready to pu some money up I'll play them again. How about a race to seven 9 ball on a 9 footer big table and I have to beat all 3 of them back to back for any amount of money? Should be hearing from them any minute!

So yes support the APA, just be careful out there with the drunks!

Thanks very much Scott! I've been slowly improving...mostly mentally. Trying to slow my stroke down...speed control is improving!

I'm sure I'll see you at some point when you head up here.

I played a few years ago in Vegas during the APA Masters event. There is a funny rule about "no gambling" in the APA. I have since then, switched back t the BCA.

Anyhoo, I would keep the gambling theme out of your posts, you never know what your opponents might be reading. Your LO could use it against you....just sayin......

Good luck in Vegas...

you are welcome:wink:

i dont like pi$$ing matches either

i dont think this incident would have happened if you had not sharked him after you were down 2-0.

i commend you both for showing restraint and continuing the match without further incident.

how would i have handled it differently ? kept my mouth shut when he was attempting to break.

here is a synopsis from what i have gathered from your own posts.

you are playing a match for vegas against a team that is drinking

your opponent is obviously not drunk because he has someone as good as you say you are down 2-0.

upon his attempt to break in the 3rd game you shark him by asking him to bet on the outcome of the match . he and his teamates get pissed at your unsportsmanship conduct and threaten to kick your a$$ (remember this aint no low level weekly match, this is for vega$ !!! )

he loses the 3rd game after you have got him sharked getting him out of his zone and you take over from there and win the match. i gotta commend your opponent here for remaining quiet the rest of the match after that stunt you pulled.

after the match when you go to shake his hand he smacks you for costing him a trip to vegas .

did i miss anything ?

good luck in vegas

Don't think the thread was about the drunk. It was about the way APA Management handled the situation.

Good call on this! I was thinking the exact same thing. Also, I'm thinking as he won 7 games in a row, there may have been some in your face stuff going on as well. I'm thinking there wasn't just one JA in this story.....

Don't think the thread was about the drunk. It was about the way APA Management handled the situation.

My response was directed at one individual who insinuated that double-p might be onto something about leagues, after reading about this incident. I merely indicated that because there is one drunken-fool incident in one place, it's not a reflection on the whole league and how it operates everywhere.

I agree completely.
