Im going to the first apa vegas nationals trip tomorrow. My team has problems....mostly because we are not sandbagging. I expect the worst and will be happy if we win more than we lose. So after the team event is done i might have some spare time and I was wondering what the folks here think about the mini mania events.

Probably have better odds playing in those than playing casino games. If I remember correctly they group skill levels 2-3, 4-5, 6-7.

Quite a few people around here, only go for the mini tournaments, whether their team qualifies or not.

I think that should answer your question.

I don't have any personal experience yet, but from what I understand, mini-tournaments are available 24-7 with the opportunity to make some decent cash.

Do you know what were the payouts on the $20 and $50 entry fee events?

Actually, quite a few baggers got to Vegas just for the Mini-Mania. Win a few tournaments, can pay for a nice chunk of your expenses.

played 1 year in APA - team went to Vegas - had a number of byes when we got there - decided to play a couple of minis to kill time - uh, did WELL - finally started the TEAM event - lost my first match and got raised....lol

YEAH, the minis are FUN! and they supposedly don't count towards your SL...lol

while I was taking cash at the minis I had 3 teammates losing their entire wads at the craps, roulette, and blackjack tables! I think the minis were a good choice for me

HAVE FUN, PLAY WELL

years ago i use to do very well in the mini's. Now there are so many sandbaggers it's almost impossible for me to cash. I'm a 7 in eight ball and a 8 in nine ball and in the couple mini's i played i had a 6 B&R 4 a row in 8ball and a 7 not miss a ball in our 9ball match.

Now it's more of a challenge to win one just so i can tell those SB to suck it.

Win or lose i don't mind playing even, but giving weight to these scum suck. Then they don't have the balls to match up and play even.

They are fun and can also be modestly profitable. Pick your events and be in line 24 hours before the scheduled start time. These events fill up fast

I figured it out the other day and you have to get around 9th place (in 8 ball team event) in order to win around 4-500 (total prize/8 players).

In the minis, I think the payouts are normally 160, 80, 40, 40 (1,2, 3/4) this is for the $20 tourneys.

As already mentioned its a lot cheaper way to spend a couple hours then gambling in the casino.

Yes I agree, I will first "gamble" on the minis most likely the eight ball 4-5, before i hit up any casino games.

I went to vegas for the first time in march for southwest challege 8 ball, recently 21 i went a day early to party and gamble and such. I won a good amount of money from basically nothing playing hold em (i just had the nuts everytime someone went all in!). but i forgot why i went to vegas until our first match started. i didnt gamble much after i was in stroke.

minis

Hello,

If you do decide to buy in a mini mania tournament I recommend that you make sure you a lot for time at least approximately 4 hours to completion. That is to win the first place money. They are 100% payouts. Usually 16 player fields.
I went in 2003 and played in a about 4. I actually sold my bid in 1. I remember playing in one that I had to wait so long for the other match to finish that I chose to take 2nd. LOLs.... hey it's Vegas got to keep moving!!!

Also look at schedule and buy in because they do fill up fast. I heard a rumor though supposedly the APA does not let you buy 24 hours ahead of schedule, but don't quote me on it.

Anyway Good luck and forget about any sandbagging. Just watch out for the Hustle in the practice rooms.

Mini's are fun to play in. I normally try and play in at least 1-2 of the 50 entry fee skill level 7 only 8 ball tourney's. No worry about anyone being underranked and pays pretty good. payouts are.....
1st-400
2nd-200
3rd-100
4th-100
Win 2 matches and your in the money.....

Personally I think I would prefer to only play 8 ball tourneys cause without a push in 9 ball its damn near impossible to beat some of the 6,7,8's when your spoting points especially since they shorten what you have to goto in the mini's

I think each skill level goes down by close to 10 points or something like that.

It's not a 10 point drop, I think its more like a 3-4 point drop in the races in 9 ball. I think a 4 goes to 28, 5 to 33 IIRC.

Im flying out to Vegas tomorrow. I was planning on playing in a few of the Minis... Should be fun getting owned by some sandbaggers :-D

Thank you. Are the 8 ball races the same? How is doubles going to work?

8 ball races are the same.

I played in the 9 ball scotch doubles once but dont' recall what the points races were in those. It varies depending on the total team skill level. IIRC, the higher skill levels went to something like 46 points (6 normal level) and the others scaled down from there.

I think they have doubles (each player shoots until they miss) and then scotch doubles events (alternate after each shot).
