App for 9ball Score Keeping

Found a cool app called "9Ball ScoreMaster" for iPhone and iPad. It does score in the 10 point rack system like what APA uses. Very useful if you play in a league that uses that format.

edit: Ok, I built it. Sorry, for my deception. But it really is a very useful tool.

it may not be available for android yet. i have it on my iPad. I used it for league last night. My one player thats never kept score in the four years he's been playing for me was able to keep perfect score using it. It was a miracle.

It's interesting that you explain to everyone that you "found" it when your name is listed right on the app when I do a search.

I certainly didn't appreciate finding your ad on my league facebook page this morning. If you want to sell a product to our league members, how about giving me a call or emailing me. Or how about contacting the APA National office directly?

Regardless, $2.99 seems like a bit of a rip off, especially with your poor sales presentation. The proper way to use the word "FOUND" can be seen in the following sentence:

"I found some spam on my league facebook page this morning and I deleted it."

Let us know when you "FIND" the android version of this app. LOL! Have a nice day!

sorry you didnt appreciate me posting on your page. I honestly do apologize and will not do it again. im not a salesman. I was just taking advice from others who liked the product and thought i should do some posts to introduce it to others. Again, im sorry if my tactics were poor, im just a guy that loves pool and came up with an easier way to do score keeping. it is a great app that would help you members in keeping accurate score.

If you want someone to take your product seriously, be honest and upfront and show some pride in your product.

I don't know if your product will be successful or not, but without a quality presentation or using the proper channels to promote your product, it's not going to gather a whole lot of interest. If you aren't a salesman, you might want to consider hiring one.

Though, I do agree that Mr. Hardin's intent was hampered by his sleazy sales tactics; I find it more interesting that the APA LO is the first to chime in negatively.

Why hasn't APA developed an electronic scorekeeping system?

I don't know why they haven't, but scores have to be turned in on the score sheets so keeping it on an app would just be redundant and a waste of time since you'd have to copy everything over anyway.

well on that note I can say that at the end of the match the app breaks down all stats by game so it can be easily transferred to paper. My teams have been using it for weeks with no issue.

It may very well be a helpful tool, but I'm guessing that anyone lacking the ability to keep score on paper would find a way to screw it up with an iDevice as well.

honestly, its kind of fool proof. you only have to touch what ball a person pocketed and whether they missed or played defense. it tracks everything else for you. you can even play and keep score simultaneously. its also a useful tool for practicing in the ball count format.

On another note, has anyone seen an app that tracks your AccuStats score? I would love to have that information.

bad ad, good app

I've known Hardin for quite a few years, and he's genuinely a good guy who loves pool. This, however, was obviously not his most well-though-out move. *smack you in the head*
I've actually personally used the app, and it's good. The concept itself is great, and he's constantly working on new features and updates.
I've been able to get players who know nothing about ball-count scoring for 9ball to keep the score. Some of you have mentioned it's not actually worthwhile...but imagine if you were short on players and needed to keep your own score...it really is quite useful. Teaching a new player to keep score is a lot easier as well.
I've even had pool hall hustlers (who have only ever kept score by moving the coin on the table) use it. They kept coming back over later asking if we needed them to keep score again. haha

Don't be too hard on him for his less than brilliant original post. Otherwise, you might be missing out on an app that you'd really enjoy having.
Also, don't be too hard on the APA LO. He doesn't know Hardin, so it's natural for him to be concerned that it was SPAM. I'm sure in his mind, he's trying to protect his local members.
I work locally as an APA division rep, and know how committed the LOs are to their players.

Anyway, the app is really great, and I'm going to continue using it.

I will buy the app. I really dont care that is 2.99, we spend a whole lot more money in other things constantly that could be put in the rip off category and we dont complain. Some say that its "useless" to have an app to keep score when you have to turn in the physical paper; well apa provides a lot of useless stuff too, so whats one more stripe huh?

to the OP, does the app also track stuff like break and runs, 9 on the break and that kind of stuff? it would be neat if one can use it to track your own personal performance throughout a session or multiple sessions. The APA website provides certain stats but a lot of times they fail to input them, or things like how many innings you average a match and stuff.

oshua86 currently the ipad version tracks 9onSnaps, Break and runs, and points per inning in addition to the basic stats, the iphone version currently only tracks innings, defenses, dead balls, and player scores.
this is mostly due to limited screen space on the phone and maintaining simple functionality.

however, at the moment it doesnt store long time stats, just the match at hand. thank you for you comment. you can easily screenshot the stat page for future reference, though.

Appreciate you coming clean, I've certainly seen worse from other app developers...
even for apps I love to use every day. Hate when apps throw up ads in the notification bar telling you
that your phone has a virus, or they put up a fake facebook notification.

Anyway, I might look into it. 2.99 is fine if it saves time and hassle and gets people to keep score
who otherwise are stubborn about it.

Geo has a point, APA should have developed an app by now. It could do any number of things...
allow you to look up stats, visit the site, keep score, look up the latest rules, etc.

I say Kudos to the OP for creating a useful app to help the league players. Inventions come from people seeing a problem and creating a solution.

I'm concerned about the sentence in red above. Why should someone with a product need to get a LO's permission to sell a player something? What if it was a new tip, or a new chalk? I'm just confused with APA LO seemingly parental view of their league members.

Now, if he were to expand on the idea, and have put into the app that it can automatically upload to the APA system, that may be another story as the LO may not be interested in managing the stats that way.

But if it's just an app for the players to better enable them to score more accurately, I don't see where any permissions are needed.

Just my opinion. Take it for what it is.

I would bet the APA had at the very least fooled around with the idea of an IPad or Android app for score keeping, but as we all know the APA frowns upon keeping your own stats and electronic records are easily saved. Once you have enough saved stats you could likely come dangerously close to developing a road map to the super secret "Equalizer Scoring System".
The 8 ball system was easy enough to figure out and if you look you can find several versions on the internet, the 9 ball system - a little more difficult.
Anyways, I'm surprised you haven't heard from the APA or they haven't tried to shut you down or sue you or something, but I'd suspect that's coming.

Don't let the big bad APA scare you off. As long as you haven't used any of their protected information, you are good and trying to help players keep score easier.

If they bark, calmly answer back to them that you'd be interested in partnering with them to expand the app for them if they're interested.

If you got some insider proprietary info that helped you create the app, that's another story. But I don't believe simply their scoring system is patented or copyrighted.

But I've been wrong before. And if I am this time, someone will tell me.
