I just got this thing and I have been playing with it all afternoon. I absolutely love it and being able to see exactly what the cue ball is doing is going to be a big help, I wished I had ordered this thing earlier.

Anyone else like/play with the "tv" ball???

we use it any tournament; open, ranking possible, so to me its just a thing thats always been there. never thought of the added value it could bring to regular cb's.

I never knew this but fellow poster Steven Waldon noted that the measles cue ball is unsuitable for one-pocket because the standard break shot is near impossible to execute with it.

For any game but one-pocket, I love the measles cue-ball. and when I'm sweating matches, I love it even more, as I can see how the cue ball is rotating, adding to my comprehension, recognition, and enjoyment of the shots.

Please explain to me why it is different than a regular cue ball. I think you just got a bum rack. Or maybe the dots are mesmerizing (sp?) you.

I always get the Blue Dot ball as I am trying to learn 1 Pocket and I just plain don't like the measle ball. I have floaters in my right eye and I don't need any extra dots!

On another forum a guy by the name of Dr.Dave who is an engineering professor at a university in Colorado wrote a long dissertation of his anaylsis of the difference between the various cue balls. Bottom line was that the weight and diameters were the same but the measle ball was made of a different phenolic composition and came off the object ball differently. The analysis was lengthy and technical and I can't attest to it's accuracy. I do know that I and several others at HT feel that the Blue ball goes through the balls better and truer. If there are any tech's out there you might want to go to BD and check out the archives.

I have one like that too but they are different than the original cueball from the bars because its heavier so its harder to do backspins but topspin are easier.

In my case, the Measle ball was definitely bigger than the red dot balls being used at the poolhall. Of course, who really knows whether that is because they are different from the beginning or because the red dot balls have worn over time? But in our observations, the ball was definitely bigger than both the object balls and the red dot cue balls.

It definately feels heavier...

I weighed mine, when I bought it new along with a set of super-pro's, they weigh the same (169 grams) as the object balls, as long as they are super-pro. The standard aramith balls weigh 166 grams. If you check a worn out standard set, which I have, you'll find most objectballs weigh about 162 grams with the cueballs going as low as 155. I think the different feel comes when you take an older set of tv or super-pro balls and add a measles ball to that, than the cue-ball is heavier off course. If you add a measles ball to a set of standard aramith balls, the effect will be even greater, since those are lighter to start with.

Brand new however they are all the same weight, as long as you stay in the same product-line, be it standard or super-pro.

I have one, and it's great. When mis-stroke a shot I can see the result right away. Now I can't blame a "skid" for every miss!:D It also makes it easier to teach with.

I'm still scratching my head about the 1pocket break though?....I play 1p every day....and break just fine?

On the standard one-pocket break shot, the cue ball seems to clip, rathe rthan clear, the corner ball rather than clearing it. Happened to both me and Steve immeidately after he predicted that it would.

The Super-Pro Aramith cue ball is different, I've been told, from the other Super-Pro Aramith balls. What I heard was the outer resin is harder, someone told me it was "petrified", and that it is polished to a higher degree than the other balls. That it is made to the same specs as the Super-Pro 3 cushion carom balls. IF THAT IS TRUE, it might explain why it plays differently than a red circle ball, which it definitely does. The measles ball apparently is different from the standard Super Pro Aramith Cue Ball in that it is spotted all over.

I have one, and love it as well. Still trying to find a difference between a red dot/circle and the measles, personally.

Try the "drop test".

Hold each ball about a foot above the edge of the short rail and drop the ball right on the lip of the rail so the ball goes up and down table. Check and see if they both roll to the same positions. Do it several times for slight differences to average out.

What you will know is whether they roll differently, at least. If you have a worn out red circle ball, you can be sure there will be a large difference, if it is a relatively new one, differences may still show up.

Please let us know what you find out.

The problem I have with the measle ball is the dot is not always in the spot that I want to hit the cue ball. It has become a real challenge to play position and get one of the dots to be in the spot where I want to hit the CB for the next shot.

I also bought the standard blue dot but use the measle ball most of the time now. The dots seems to make the ball look bigger but I think it is a illusion. I don't think Aramith would make the ball different than the rest of the set.

I bought a Super Pro Pack from Nielsens.

Call them and deal direct. Here is the sticky in this forum

Cannot beat the price and love the set.

I would recommend them as one of the best and most enjoyable things you could do to improve you home table.

A dealer who sold me the Super Aramith Pro cue ball told me that. Is it true? I can't say for sure.

Perhaps someone in the know can fill us in.

I picked up a measle ball about a year ago before they were sold seperately. Some guy was selling them on ebay. I love the ball, love being able to see what english you put on it.

I also got a pack of the aramith pro cup balls last February too and I got another one with that pack.
