Its no secret that JA is a friend of mine and I try to stay unbiased on here when it comes to threads with him in them.
Anyway, I think he has done a great job this year and really helped the team as much as he could have to this point on and off the table.

I love the Mosconi Cup and the shouting and cheering etc it makes for a great atmosphere but there was a line crossed yesterday. I have no idea what was said but it seems like someone yelled something out that was disrespectful toward JA's wife Melanie. Johnny then stopped his shot and told then "Stop it, thats enough, don't disrespect my wife" Good for him its bad form to insult players families and Think JA did the right thing. He went on to win the match although you could see he was mad. Good for him.

the fact that he came from behind to win the match, Talk about revenge........go Johnny go

What goes around should come around. Next year in the US someone should scream to Appleton's mail order asian if she only charges the crowd 5 dolla to love you lung time. And then if Appleton says anything someone should break his nose for the 28th time :D

I totally agree. He handled it very well. very well indeed. Family & children really put things in perspective. I wish Johnny & his family nothing but the best. If you talk to Johnny soon, tell him & Melanie Merry Christmas from a ball spinning fan on AZB & the kids too.

And Merry Christmas to you too,

I've read a lot of posts about this incident. It may be one of the first times in AZB history that people unanimously were on the same side. All seem to have given Johnny much respect for handling it firmly and appropriately. Mark, I too hadn't picked up exactly what the crack was, but yeah - just mentioning her name in this environment is over the line. Well done Johnny!

Keep fighting USA!!!

Here's the link to the "wife" incident

Folks:

Here's the point in the match in question:

(Link-cheat included, that takes you right to the shot and the "wife" incident.)

Johnny is a class act to be able to admonish that numbskull in the crowd as he did, and yet keep his mind on track to come from behind and take this match.

I'd like to add that it appeared the crowd cheered Archer when he called the heckler out; even they knew the heckler had gone too far, and respected Archer for calling him on it.

Did you ever see the IPT 8-ball match between Archer and Strickland? Johnny is lining up a shot while Earl is doing his usual sharking from his chair. Johnny continues getting down on the ball while saying "you can talk all you want while you're shooting, but when it's my shot you'll sit in that chair and shut up!" Then he rifles in a difficult cut shot. Priceless.

You are so far out of line its not even funny.

A new low for this place.

Is this sort of thing now being tolerated here on AZ?

This is why Johnny Archer is one of my favorite players and a straight legend...

One being that he demanded respect towards his wife and him aswell. Very well done Johnny and rightfully so. If we did that to any of their spouses you know shit wouldv'e went down. Very disrespectful and totally un-called for. If their mothers caught wind of this crap they would get a swift kick to the balls!!

Second point is that no matter what happened (Johnny was pissed you could see it!! and missed shots because of this matter) he pulled it together to pull off a HUGE comeback victory for Team USA!! Anybody else in the world would have completely mentally collapsed after that. Your head would be so far gone you would dog one in the jaws of the hole. Bravo JA!!! You to me are a true legend and hero to us all :D

Prejudiced and uncalled for, sir!

I can't disagree with this statement more. One should always strive for CLASS, not TRASH. This sir, is just a trashy statement. I don't think Appleton, or his companion had anything to do with this.

York Hall is a very cool venue, I can't believe this went fairly unchecked. Did they toss the guy that did this? Did the venue take any action? I'm curious, I missed it yesterday.

Best,

Justin

Definitely some hooligans there that shoulda been tossed and kudos to JA for taking a stand, however Matchrooms line may not be as clear as others.
This show is founded on rivalry and controversy and that sells.

I have been impressed with Johnny for the whole cup so far. He is stepping up as a leader and filling the role he is needed for. That atmosphere is brutal. I have been to several MC events in Vegas and the crowd there is nowhere near as rude as whats been on display the last few days. If the American crowd pulled the crap the Brits are pulling the Euro supporters would be screaming bloody murder and filing motions in the UN.

Johnny handled the particular situation in question perfectly IMO.

IMO the crowd is actually taking away from a fantastic performance by the European squad. When its over if the euro's win you watch and see how many US fans cite the crowd as a factor. In the end all that matters I guess is that people give a shit one way or another. In that regard Matchroom has done a great job.

As I've said, elsewhere, the match should have been stopped until the person responsible was located & escorted out.

I heard that Hatch went over and stood in the section where the shouting came from. Maybe to find out who it was so they could be removed or to eject the the dumbass himself.

Never push Dennis or he'll show you where his power break comes from.
