Archer & Varner Southern Tour first day, getting ready

man, johnny sounds like a fun dude to be around. Wouldn't guess it when you see his game face in tournaments. Hope to make it to his pool room someday.

Mark,

I'm going to plan on being there Sat.
I enjoyed your story, Johnny is a card.
The last time I was at MBC my buddy Rich (The Skunk) played Nick in a few games of 1 hole. The last game Nick ran out all 15.
The last big tournament I played in GA. I drew JA 1st. round & we played on a barbox. I played alright, but I was so nervous playing a champion of his caliber that I choked when it came down to it; he beat me 7-0.
I'll enjoy meeting you & seeing them again & I'll bring some cues too.

Ty,
Michael
Where are you gonna be on Saturday? Looks like you are in Georgia and we will be in Bama. Just checking with you.

Creedo, I have told people this for a while about JA. You are right people always see the straight faced, deep in thought or frowning JA on the tv or streams etc. I love it when people come to the shows and see the other side of him. Many times people come to me and say things like "Man, I wasn't sure if he was gonna be a dick or not but he is a really nice guy" I am sure there are many others on here who know JA or have had experience with him outside of the pool tournaments who would agree.

Clinics?

Can anyone explain their clinics or describe their experience. I'm thinking about signing up for one but would like to hear some feedback.

RAMIII..The clinics are limited to 12 people. If there are 12, they are in two groups of 6. Each group spends a couple hours with each pro. Probably some time Varner & Archer are at the table talking and demonstrating to the group, and then every student gets a little one-on-on, I expect, to talk about whatever you want. Hope this helps...

Thanks Scott, just about 100% correct. 2hrs with each of them in a small group (no more than 5 others with you) They will cover, breaking, jumping, pattern play, banking and playing lessons. Everyone will have plenty of opportunity to bring their own topics to the table also. Alot to learn. I am not sure on their availability but give them a call, I know they had a few signed up a week or so ago. Thanks again Scot. Been traveling and just saw this.

Well I am here in wonderful Pelham, Al. We had a great time at Marietta Billiard club and got to meet old friends and made new ones and thats what I love about these trips. We got up this morning to be ready at 9am when Nick would be picking us up. Packed and ready, we head out for some breakfast and Nick as I have said can eat his own weight had the breakfast called "The Kitchen Sink" The server said "If you can't make up your mind just get "The Kitchen Sink, its got everything on it. Pankakes, sausage, eggs, bacon, taters and all the fixins. So Nick went with that and ate the whole thing. Its amazing to see. Now we are getting ready to get showered and we have been sat chatting for a while. Time has ran away and we are scrambling. We are staying with friends here and so taking turns in the shower. I am last and waiting for JA to get out. We have 20 mins before we leave, AARRGGG we are gonna be a little late. I do have more to tell and it could get exciting as a couple of things have come up and I will explain the next time I post. Got to go for now.

Thank you

Continuing.... After breakfast we got on the road right away to Alabama, time flew by and before I knew it we were getting ready to pass Talladega Super Speedway. Now none of us are Nascar fans but The Legend of Ricky Bobby is a funny movie and so I thought it was cool to go by and see the signs. Now JA keeps telling me that there was a real driver named Ricky Bobby and I am not buying it but he seems convinced. maybe someone can tell me if it is true or not.

We get in to Pelham and have some lunch, and this is where my day turned a little hectic. The person who was handling the clinic had to leave town for work, so I try to call and try to call because at this point I have no idea how many people are signed up for the clinic, what there names are or if they have paid and if they have paid who has the money? So I am sure you can see my situation. Well I got it all figured out at the pool room last night but I wasn't sure what was going to happen last night and thats why I said "It could be interesting" because my biggest fear was talking to 10 people and they all say they paid in advance and nobody knows where the money is.

I was nervous to start with heading into the pool room due to the clinic issues and then I meet with John King who is the main guy at King's Cash League. They are having a big finals weekend for his league and will be paying out $30k over the weekend. King's Cash League are the ones who are paying all the bills for JA and Nick to be here this weekend. I know I need to get that part of business handled also as he has the guys doing a bunch of different things over the wekend. I had not met John King in person before and didn't realize that this guy has to be 6ft 7ins and must be 350 lbs a big guy but a real nice guy who is always laughing, until now. After introducing myself and us making a little polite chat. I say "Hey John, we need to take care of that business as soon as possible" he looks at me and says "F*$#K YOU, I'm not paying" I am stunned and shocked at the same time, the nightmare that I always dreaded happening is happening. I look him straight in the eyes waiting for a reason but nothing was being said. So many things go through my head in the maybe 2 second delay. Things like, I hope I don't have to fight this guy, Do we still do the show for the people who came to see it?, I Really hope I don't have to fight the money out of this guy, How can I tell the world that this guy stiffed us and finally I REALLY hope I don't have to fight the money out of this guy. The he belts out this good ole boy belly laugh and says just kidding. Phew! I'm sure some profanity came out of my mouth immediatley but I was soo relived that I don't remember.
As always we had a good time with everyone and we are looking forward to the rest of the weekend. This afternoon at 4pm JA and Nick are scheduled to be at Bumbers here in Pelham to do a bunch of challenge matches against locals and players from King's Cash League and tomorrow Afternoon at 4pm they are playing a scotch doubles challenge match against the two best players in town and people seem to be excited about seeing that.

OH MAN! Nick just came to me with a worried look and said "look at what I just did." Somehow he reached out for something and caught some bare wood and has a splinter that went up his finger nail all the way up to the top, its about the size of a matchstick and frankly it makes my ass go funny just thinking about it. We have got tweesers and tried the JA and T-Wheels emergency mobile clinic abut after a couple mins we decided we can't help. However it has to come out somehow and so he is off to the experts at the emercency room. Not sure what they are gonna do to get it out so I hope he is ok and I will give you an update.

Thanks for the trip updates. I get a kick hearing about all the practical jokes. I like to play practical jokes on my traveling buds too.

Here is a good way to get JA back...

Go by some of those real big prunes. Figure out a way to give him a little surprise by mashing them up. OF course you know what they look like?? For example at DCC a couple years ago I was staying with my friend Jeff Beckley. He is kind of feminine and in the shower I noticed he had these bathing "mitts" that he would wear to wash his body. I mashed up a couple prunes and put them inside those gloves. This way when he slipped them on he would feel them then take hands out and think it was Crap all over his hands!! Long story short I got ready quick and went down to action room. An hour or so later he came down and looked at me and just quickly looked away and walked in other room...he wouldn't even speak to me!!! LMAO...

A classic indeed....

Well, Nick had to have minor surgery to remove the splinter. I am not sure if I am explaining what happened very well. A big splinter went under his fingernail all the way to where the nail starts. The got it out and his bridge hand has a big bandage on his index finger, he won't be able to make a closed bridge tonight or maybe tomorrow so we are going to see how it goes but Nick seems optomistic that this is just a small bump in the road. So we are just hanging out right now and relaxing until tonight at Bumpers.

Nick has had to get some antibiotics and on his way is getting JA a treat. JA loves boiled peanuts, I think unless you are from the south you may not know what boiled peanuts are. I have had them before and they are an aquired taste for sure, even if you like peanuts its strange, they have juice and the peanut itself is mushy. JA has been talking about these things for 2 days now and claims that you can't buy enough of them for him not to be able to finish them. Ok, well they just arrived and JA is being very protective over the peanuts and happy as can be. I tried one and I can see how if you eat a few they may be one of those things that once you start eating them you don't want to stop but I don't care to get to that point.
I guess we will slowly start getting ready for tonight.

Is JA steadily pounding back the Mountain Dew as well? He loves his mountain Dew!

Johnny keeps asking me where his underwear is, not sure if he thinks I packed his case or if he thinks I stole them. So I go into my room and he has gone to the trouble of climbing up on the bed and pulling the little chains that turn the fan and the light off so they can't be turned on at the wall anymore. Just wondering if this stuff is gonna end, he must be getting bored of it by now but maybe as long as I am acknowleging it he is gonna still find it fun. OK, thats it off to the pool room.
