I met him once, have read a lot about him, and would like to hear more from players and a people who have crossed his path....
And who is the person referred to as "Mr X" in many of the stories...

"With a little over $10,000 in his pocket, Karas began looking for pool action. He found a wealthy and respected poker and pool player, Karas refused to reveal the name of his opponent for the sake of his opponent's reputation; he simply referred to him as "Mr. X". They started playing pool at $10,000 a game. After Karas won several hundred thousand dollars, they raised the stakes to $40,000 a game. Many gamblers and professional poker players watched Archie play with stakes never seen before. Karas ended up winning $1,200,000. He then played Mr. X in poker and won an additional $3,000,000 from him. Karas was willing to gamble everything he made and continued to raise the stakes to a level few dared to play at.["

Archie vs Bobby "the owl" Baldwin

Funny thing about this bar table match up was Archie airbarreled Bobby at 10k a game 9ball and then they raise the stakes to 50k a game (that was how Archie won most of it) finally betting 100k a game on a barbox how is that for action

I was playing in Tulsa in October last year and when I asked about Bobby and Shawn Baldwin I was told they quit play pool and both worked for a casino there in Tulsa. I took Shawn around for a while in the late 90's, he was a great young player.

Archie the crawfish

Archie and I played in Baton Rouge about 10 years ago and I busted him. He then was shooting his mouth off in Las Vegas that he would like to play me for a million dollars and see how straight my stroke would be for that amount. So i accepted his challenge and was making arrangements to get the million in cash to play him (he was going to get staked, I would bet my own) and he admitted he couldn't get the money so I named him "Archie the Crawfish". He probably is sleeping in the car, but if he reads this he can still play that set for a million even though I'm 66 years old and haven't hit a ball in over a year.....:grin-square:

Different Bobby Papa. The one Archie tangled with was/is CEO of the Mirage casino properties.
