Are Junior players being set up for a tough life?

I think the same thing about the young teenage girl "the roadrunner". I"m afraid she's going to end up like Vivian. A broke deadbeat with no other talents or income in a few years.
I think for girls it might be better. Even if they are not champions, they can make a living with fans. A 730 male is a hero locally but broke on the national level. A 650 female might be able to milk her nationwide fan base and do well.

There is always simps out there. Sad world we live in where a girl who doesn't know the capital of her state can make a million a year being a bot whore.

Agreed. Savannah for instance, she’s not living and dying off being staked in big sets. She’s getting sponsors, building a brand, playing pro events. How far she can go in pool remains to be seen but it’s quite clear she’s invested in branding herself, she’s got a good head on her shoulders, and she’s doing things in a clean professional way with a seemingly good support system. If my daughter took up a serious interest in pool I’d point to her as an example. And I’d point to these kids as maybe a bad example lol. That’s not to excuse my inner degen, but you get the picture

Wow what a loser comment. Any woman succeeding must be a whore eh? We’re talking about a 16 yr old up and coming pool player. Don’t know wtf you’re talking about but sounds like you have some inner demons buddy.

My bad I thought dude was talking about only fans. I thought he meant they could wash out at pool and do something else. Sorry!

Thomas killed him 21-13. Colson missed a LOT of straight in shots. He got lucky on a lot of those misses and left Thomas tough. I think the score would have been further apart otherwise. The table was tough, both players were feeling it. Thomas def played way better though.

I can see Colson chasing Thomas around the country, like Alex did with Shane.

I saw a thread on Facebook where Colston Harrelson (great young player) has been matching up with people for $10k sets. Someone commented something about being careful going down this road and make sure he has a backup plan if the pool thing doesn't work out. He took a lot of heat for that, but it got me thinking. I see tons of junior players out there asking for sponsorships and traveling from city to city playing big tournaments. Very few of these young players are going to carve out a living playing pool. Not sure what kind of conversation I'm even looking for here, but does anyone else see what I see? There are teenagers out there posting of big tournaments and matchups that can't string a legible sentence together.
Don't want to talk about any one player specifically when I say this but I have to say I agree.

I've said many times in the last 20 years how thankful I am that I didn't chase it FULLY. I was pretty damn serious about the game and competed at a pretty high level in my early 20s but for many many reasons I backed away from the game sometime in my late 20s and just played for entertainment in my 30s before putting the game away completely for a dozen years. Best thing that could've happened to me was to NOT go for it. I would've wound up something like the 750speed guys who have to scratch and claw with no real hope of ever making it on the tournament scene. 750s are fantastic players but they have no legitimate chance to make a living at pool for the most part without being a huge POS or hitting the jackpot with a terrific stake horse behind them, and another one behind that one when the first guy quits or y'all have one too many disagreements.

My exact run out isn't to be expected either. I've been extremely fortunate in life but I truly do attribute my backing away from the pursuit of professional pool as being the most important turning point that set me up for where I am now.

All that being said, Life. LIFE is tough for just about everyone. So who knows lol

Get them into a part time job as early as 13, and keep them challenged in academics.
I don't believe this is possible for kids who are playing sets for thousands regularly. So this kid makes 2-5k in a few hours and it's fun too. Then they are going to collect grocery carts or drop fries for $30-40 a shift? NO WAY you're getting that kid to show up.

Not trying to be cynical. I do wish I was wrong but it's just how it is.

I wasn't playing pool until about 20 and can definitely say immersion in the game warped my sense of work/ money for a bit.

Tough to go from winning $500 in an hour or two, to go to work all day for $150... pre-tax.
