i had planned on goin to the open for a time next week, now its looking iffy, ill probably buy it if i dont go. Other than missing out on the whole experience its not a bad deal........the session tickets are $0 if i remember right, 2 sessions a day.........so thats 140 if you were there in person
IF it works, then that is a good deal. It sounds like it will be nearly continuous coverage.
Since I can't get the demo from the BCN website to play on my Mac at work, and they mention that other broadcasts only work on Non-Mac computers, then I have doubts about "This [being] the Internet broadcasting breakthrough that we have all been looking for" as they claim on their website. I remain hopeful, however!
I really can't figure out why in the world streaming of videos would be dependent upon whether you have an IBM, Mac, or HP computer? I know I've seen many other examples where streaming video is not restricted like that, so why cut a major portion of the audience out when there is clearly no technological reason to do so?
I will probably still buy it since I've got an HP at home (and cross my fingers that it will still work on my Mac at work).

I can't believe inflation is this much. When BCN started, I believe it was $10 for the entire week. Now it is $50 all of the sudden. I guess this must be based on gas prices. People have way too much money out there and others want to get rich quick!

If the price included access to the stored games for future viewing I might consider it, that is if there were games besides nine ball.

It's a great deal at ANY price. You get to see the US Open from the comfort of your desk chair. How good is that? Sadly, I won't be purchasing it because I won't be able to see hardly any matches. I'll be too busy. I have gotten it in the past and I highly recommend it if you love watching great pool.
I think it is too much based on past experiences with BCN. If the quality is great with more extensive coverage I think it would be fine but the quality of the past broadcasts scares me a bit. I guess I am hoping this is the year they actually improve.
However, I am purchasing the broadcast because I am having surgery Monday morning and will be laid up at the house for a few days with nothing to do. I hope the quality of the feed is at least tolerable.

Too much money, it's not worth it. Too much has gone wrong with streaming broadcasts in the past. And if I wait a year it will be on tv. In my mind if you want to provide streaming coverage of an event it should be paid for by sponsers and provided for free. Selling the tapes or DVDs afterwards is a more palatable option for me.

First, is it really unaccesible for mac. Not looking for speculation, just facts.
Secondly, if so, is there a way to record and store on a large capacity hard drive. I'm assuming, at the least that the matches can be burned to DVD, although that would be labor intensive. Any two yes answers, then I will purchase too.

BCN had some issues during the Derby City Classic that were really resolved poorly. Partial refunds or DVDs that had to be begged for. The few people in my room that dealt with that all feel burned and vowed never to deal with that again. They have a ways to go before they can charge that amount I think. Seems really high.
For a live feed you HAVE to watch then? Who has a life they can set aside for that?
The average TV show you can download goes for $1.99. Or watch it at will for $0.99 Thats for an hour long show.
I think that format is a more acceptable one. Download any match you want for $1.99 or watch it for a buck.

Which also make the price put of line, IMHO.
This is true streaming video, so if the transfer protocol is mms and/or if they're using the latest flash-based player, then it's damn near impossible to record.
Big difference between using media center/WMC to display it on a TV, and having a format which allows transfer and playback to another media (DVD).
But like you, if I can transfer/record it to local media and replay as I wish, then the price is OK. Just OK, that is.
