Are you guys serious?

Well, I hope it's not a demographic thing. It's more like a common courtesy thing, not to mention how much better other alternatives are for them. It's easy enough for a player to make sure they have a supply of meal supplements just that one day or weekend. It's not like it's going to kill a player to do without a cheeseburger for the day. In fact, they may actually feel better.

I think the real issue is in educating the players as to what the better options are. They may even actually learn to like eating healthy snacks throughout the day.

Yeah, it just ain't that way out west, and I've seen it in various matches. Yrs ago at the McDermott Masters in Vegas my match got called, my opponent didn't show, and they rescheduled it for a later time, because of who my opponent was. Once had a ref call bad hit on me in Bar Table events when there was NO infraction, the ref was in with my opponent and I had the match won, but the ref did what he was told. $5K first place Thirty yrs ago.

I'm more bothered by the blaring rap music in most poolrooms these days than by anyone being hungry and eating....lol.

You know, if pool became more serious, you would have more professionals regularly performing physical fitness, and eating a heathy diet. I have been down that path for many years (minus the professional pool part, lol), and I can say in my personal experiences, you eat a lot MORE when you are physically fit and also more OFTEN, then the regular person on the Standard American Diet.

If my experiences are typical of the type of person who is a fitness fanatic, that means if pool were ever to become a serious sport and all of its professionals took extremely good care of their bodies, then eating at a tournament would become an even bigger priority.

I can say from my few visits at DCC, I felt like never going back due to the horrible food selection for someone who wants to eat healthy. I'm just a banger. I can't image what top pros who ALSO take care of themselves (like Thorston) were going through eating the garbage available at the typical "pro tournament"

I agree with you that the food choices at some of these events are pretty horrible. A banana, an apple, a package of nuts, protein bars, brought from home all go a long way to help get a player through a match. Bring some protein powder and just add water. There are things a player can do, and any of it can be consumed during a 5 minute break or slowly during a match one bite at a time without creating any kind of a disturbance.

This idea of consuming a meal during a match is silly. It just makes the player look unprepared.

Not to open an entirely different can of worms...but I can guarantee you that you wouldn't see ANY of the pinoys b!tching about something as silly as the person they're playing ordering some fries while they're in the middle of the game. It's called mental toughness, and it to be completely honest, this situation doesn't even call for it. If someone ordered a burger and/or some fries while we were in the middle of a set, I could care less. Eat your burger and watch me play

That is actually a shark move that I pull against during money games. It distracts the other player depending on what I order to eat. Sometimes I get chinese or mexican because the table where we share, I would have an entire spread on the table making my opponent sit elsewhere.

One of the things I like to do is eat and act like I'm not paying attention. So he will sit there and wait till I finish chewing.

I love doing this and have been doing it. I didn't know somebody made a complain publicly about this because I may have to stop doing this if it's a unwritten rule.

I have made a thread on favorite shark tactics and this was one of my favorites. This and excusing myself for a beer in which I will waste time and blame it on the bartender for being busy.

This is why i like having a shot clock.

According to CreeDo, Corey ordered "the big turkey dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green beans, etc." With Corey eating a yummy meal like that, I can see why MD felt he'd been sharked. ;) :D

the funny thing was... that was the day before, and Mike was there... saying
"Damn dude! They get you like a FEAST." ... it was a pretty big meal.
I was thinking a skinny guy like Corey might have trouble with that turkey dinner.

I'm on the fence about how rude it is to order food.
In straight pool, you can definitely be trapped in the chair for over an hour.
If you don't eat during that hour, and then the other guy misses, and now
you must run balls for an hour feeling famished... I can see someone just giving up and ordering food.

Really there are only 3 possibilities.
1. It's a move
2. It's not a move but sharked mike anyway
3. Mike's just making an excuse and it didn't matter.

In only 1 of those possibilities could I really consider corey a bad guy.
Only corey knows for sure.

I could only be sharked if my opponent was eating broccoli....
....I HATE the smell of broccoli...

A snack and a meal are two different things. Corey ordered a Thanksgiving feast!!! Also, a rotation game is A LOT different than straight pool. I was in the zone against Corey, running some balls, then my attention shifted to a waitress delivery food, not once but twice. Corey is an extremely smart individual, so yes, I do believe this was done on purpose. I guess its on me to learn how to deal with people sharking.

cheesy mess

Always try to smear a good bit of cheese on the chalk if you see your opponent using the community chalk.

I hear that the extra talcum powder will dry it up in a hurry though.

Don't you like seeing paw prints on the cloth from the guys that like to abuse that stuff.

I say if anyone had a real problem with any of this stuff just call over the T.D. ??:boring2::boring2::boring2::boring2:

Some people are saying they think it's "lame" or "in poor taste" or "a move" on CD's part to order food during his 14.1 match with MD.

Seriously? I mean have you never eaten during a pool match before? Have you guys even played a pool match before? What the hell is wrong with eating during a match?
I mean if a guy is hungry let him eat! Haha

Having said that, the ONLY way that it would be out of line is if he stood up next to the table and yelled across the establishment to get a waitress or something during his opponents shot but you guys have got to be joking if you think eating = sharking. And lol at Mike Dechaine for even commenting on it. Just more proof...

Sorry I just had to vent this

What if he is hypoglycemic? Diabetes? If your feeling weak you got to eat? Or if your being sick to your stomach and haven't eaten all day?

I feel someone eating during a match is rude, I dont want to smell their food or hear them chewing and even waiting for them to finish swallowing before shooting a shot.

CD should have been more prepared to play the match, he has been playing tournaments long enough.

Tournaments have down time in between matches,

knowing you are going to play a tournament you should eat before the tournament starts to give u plenty of energy,

snack in between matches,

bring a granola bar, snickers, chips, whatever to snack on at ur match not order a whole entree.

Corey should have brought his Ipad to watch a movie while he was eating. maybe next time

And you won't see any of us trying to bbq chickens in our hotel room, either.

In a pro tournament this is no doubt poor form. For everybody else -- please eat as much as you can and buy a bunch of drinks too. Pool halls are closing left and right and now everybody is saying nobody should be eating during a tourney. I saw WRONG! Everybody should be eating! At least until things turn around for our pool rooms.

Eat on your own time, before or after the match. If your starving,go wolf down a
chocolate bar on one of your bathroom breaks.

I agree with you, players should eat and support the business but do it before or after your match.
