Some people are saying they think it's "lame" or "in poor taste" or "a move" on CD's part to order food during his 14.1 match with MD.

Seriously? I mean have you never eaten during a pool match before? Have you guys even played a pool match before? What the hell is wrong with eating during a match?
I mean if a guy is hungry let him eat! Haha

Having said that, the ONLY way that it would be out of line is if he stood up next to the table and yelled across the establishment to get a waitress or something during his opponents shot but you guys have got to be joking if you think eating = sharking. And lol at Mike Dechaine for even commenting on it. Just more proof...

Sorry I just had to vent this

When pro pool players are being filmed, some may believe they should behave in a certain manner, even when they are not being paid to perform in a tournament by the film-making entity.

I agree with you that everybody needs to eat. :D

In this regard, those who are filmed are being judged, sometimes unfairly. :embarrassed2:

you got that right about people being judged and NITpicked! But I don't think eating is misbehaving and it ABSOLUTELY is NOT sharking. Although, for the weak minded like the one in question I guess anything could be considered sharking. I get it, pool at the highest level is very tough to win but come on guy.

People are so judgmental over the silliest of things IMO. I mean, if you look at your own life and your own choices with that same fine tooth comb you will chop years off of your life. Gee should I eat or not eat? How will so and so feel about it? I wonder if he would mind if I ate a cheeseburger? Nah better not. But perhaps a steak? no not that either. Salad! he would be ok with me eating a salad right? Nah better go with the quesadilla, yeah that's it.

So stupid and a waste of time for people to judge others over things like that. Again this is a vent.

That is actually a shark move that I pull against during money games. It distracts the other player depending on what I order to eat. Sometimes I get chinese or mexican because the table where we share, I would have an entire spread on the table making my opponent sit elsewhere.

One of the things I like to do is eat and act like I'm not paying attention. So he will sit there and wait till I finish chewing.

I love doing this and have been doing it. I didn't know somebody made a complain publicly about this because I may have to stop doing this if it's a unwritten rule.

I have made a thread on favorite shark tactics and this was one of my favorites. This and excusing myself for a beer in which I will waste time and blame it on the bartender for being busy.

I do it knowingly, that I am trying to shark.

To be honest with you, eating shouldn't be allowed but many tournament directors allow it.

You have to remember that this is a game being played on a table and I don't want your greasy eating burger hands on the table. It's etiquette.

If people want pool to be considered a sport, you must treat it like that and nobody eats in a middle of competition. Do we see boxers going for a snack?

In the case of boxing, no. But you do see baseball players eating hotdogs and stuff in the dugout. Tennis players eating bananas etc etc. and I'm aware that there is a difference between a banana and a full meal but where do you draw the line? Also you see folders eating sandwiches as they walk the fairway or wait at a teebox. This is what I would consider downtime during their match/event and I see no reason why it shouldn't be allowed. Of course that is to say that if you're not using grease to change conditions etc. I'd have no issue with a gripe about that from anyone. If you think eating sharks people then I guess maybe it does? But I sure as hell don't see it and IMO it takes a weakling to get sharked by it.

I used to shark the hell out of myself by ordering pizza during a match. I figured out that I was hurrying my shooting in an attempt to get back and eat. My friend pointed it out one night and said I was playing "pizza pool"... and he was totally right!

Ok now that is definitely a valid point! Haha love me some pizza but I've never really eaten it while playing pool honestly.

Eating/ordering food during a match is poor form and possibly (probably) a shark move.

Pool matches don't take that long. Even if you're playing matches back-to-back you can aways ask the TD for 20 minutes to grab a burger. And beyond that, anyone with a modicum of tournament experience knows to look at the board and figure out when they're going to eat.

I'd have to agree with this. Besides, a hungry dog runs faster.

Best,
Mike

Ok perhaps it is a shark move

and likely a deliberate one. Since so many people agree, it may have some merit afterall, I'll give you that. However I maintain that an eating opponent will not ever shark me and shouldn't shark you either unless you are just looking for an excuse. I still think it's a poor excuse and to verbalize your displeasure with someone doing so is just ridiculous.

On another point, I have played in a bunch of regional events where there was no break at all. Particularly when in the Bside of the bracket. Sorry but I mean no disrespect to my opponent as I chew my food. I don't shark anyone intentionally ever, and on rare occasion when I do, I apologize repetitively until I'm convinced my opponent knows no ill intent was laid out.

I don't see anything wrong with what Corey did. This isn't the first time he's eaten during a match. At DCC one year playing Parica he was eating during the match. Didn't seem to bother Parica one bit.

What's worse is when your opponent has a flatulence problem. Worst shark ever! :embarrassed2:

I eat to shark or else I never eat when playing pool especially since it makes me sluggish. Trust me, people can get sharked, when I do it.

First of all, I'm not paying attention to you. I don't even care about playing you because I have my food in front of me. It shows the lack of importance or concern playing you. I'm confident, that's why I'm having dinner in front of you.

If that doesn't bother you, well, I am already not paying attention so let me know when it's my turn to shoot. When you notify me, I will finish chewing, clean my hands and wipe my mouth and take a sip of soda before I shoot.

Not only that but I have my headphones on too, so you pretty much have to get my attention. Now I don't want people to eat while playing but I do it, with the intent to shark.

I will be up a couple of sets and they usually just quit during that last set where I would order food.

I do it to slow the tempo and slow my opponent down when he's running balls.

I admit to sharking and I love doing it. I know it's bad but it's fun.

After yrs of playing in events, the timelines your given most often don't reflect EXACTLY when your going to be at the table. I learned years ago to Always practice right after eating to become used to it in case it were to happen in match play. Blood sugar effects top level play DRAMATICALLY, diabetics understand this clearly. Many times before I learned of its effect my game would drop off, and many times I've eaten a cheese burger and fries/coke and have put immediate packages on my opponent.

I am also hypoglycemic which is another reason I have alot of experience eating during a match. If my blood sugar begins to take a turn, I'm not gonna ask permission to eat, nor should I have to explain myself for having done so.

People get sharked by the weirdest things...

In serious competition, I think ordering food while opponent is at the table is sharking unless it is between racks.

I might also consider it sharking if you order something that might sound repulsive to your opponent. An example might be a taco with extra jalapenos.

If I wasn't allowed to eat I'd never play a game. I eat about every 2 to 3 hours. Some people eat frequently. Some people eat 1 meal a day. Everyone is different.

I gambled last week and ordered 2 burgers during the match. My opponent didnt mind in the slightest.

At tournaments, I often bring fruit or nuts with me and eat them during matches.

Pool tournaments or gambling is an all day long proposition. The breaks, if any at all, won't always coincide with your body's needs.
