Arizona Loses a Dear Friend-----Bill Moore lost his battle with Cancer today.

Anyone have a picture of Bill? I am not sure if I knew him or not and know people more by face.

I have it posted up on www.azpoolscene.com and have updated on the forum for the Memorial that will run including a pool tournament.

There is also a picture of Bill.

I met Bill the first year I moved to AZ and got to hang out, shoot with him, talk about pool and players, etc. etc. every chance I got. Bill was on the AZ Rating Committee as well.

I took this picture 12/15/2001...

Bryan -

We are putting together a collage of pictures and memories of Bill. Do you mind if we use this picture?

Also, Patrick from the Arizona Billiards News & Darts would like to use it to publish in his paper if possible.

Let me know thanks!

Arizona has lost one of the game's biggest fans and supporters.

Most people here in Arizona didn't know it, but Bill was married to my Mom for a time. Mom has always stayed close to Bill and his family. And I have spent many holidays with Bill at the dining room table. He has been a fixture in my life as long as I can remember.

While his eyes may have failed him later in life, he used to shoot quite a mean stick. I was told that he put food on the table many times for my family with that cue.

A few years ago, we playfully woofed at each other over Thanksgiving dinner and we ended up matching up for a little barbox 9-ball. I knew I was in trouble as soon as I saw him stroke the ball.

His game may have waned during the last few years, but his love for the game never did. He always wanted to know what tourneys I had gone to and how the event had gone. He lived for the game and the game provided much enjoyment for him.

I knew that Bill was fighting with cancer and not doing well recently. Mom called me last night in Virginia and said she had gone to see him and things had looked pretty bad. I thought I was prepared for the inevitable, but when I saw the text from Mom when I got off the plane coming home this morning I knew what it was about and I had to admit that I was no where near ready for this.

His family has lost their dad/son. But the pool world has lost a brother.

Billy

Never scared to say what he felt..If he thought you were a dumb ass,he would call you dumb ass ! lol.............God Bless you Bill !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is definitely a very sad day for Arizona pool. Few people come along in the pool world that have the desire and passion that Bill did for this sport. Bill was a true player and loved the game like few do. I knew Bill for many years and I will sorely miss him.

I have so many memories and stories of pool over the past years and many of them Bill was a part of or witnessed. One that stands out was in a tournament in California a few years back. We were playing in the big Labor Day tournament in Riverside and I had drawn Morro Paez in the fourth round. I was pumped to play and Bill was there the whole time with nothing but encouraging words. I ended up winning the match 9-7 in front of a pretty large crowd. I remember being very happy after the match but it was Bill who was probably more excited than I was that I had snapped off that match. We couldn’t stop laughing and smiling about it for hours. We kept replaying the match over and over while eating hot dogs with my wife. The fact that he was so happy for my win said a lot about Bill’s character. Bill shot from the hip, but you knew when it came down to it, he was not only a pool player at heart, but also a good person.

Memories like these stand out about Bill, but I will remember him most for our conversations outside of pool and just sitting around and bullshitting. He was at just about every big Arizona tournament and I looked for him every time. I knew he would always have something encouraging to say to me and would always ask about my wife, Christine. Bill always took the time to talk to my wife (which surprisingly enough, no t many pool players do). And because of this, Christine took to Bill immediately. Both Christine and I have fond memories of talking and sharing stories with Bill over pool hall food between many a tournament match.

Christine and I offer our sincerest condolences to Bill’s family and friends. Rest in peace, Bill. You will be missed.

Save a hotdog for me, brother.

Having only really spent time around Bill in the pool room, I can't say that I was especially close to him, but he was still one of the people that I was always happy to run into. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I'll definitely miss him.

R.I.P billy moore. My heart goes out to his family to anyone that called him a friend. They just don't make em like Bill anymore. I only knew bill through pool, but i cant help feeling like i lost my grandpa. He just had that warmth about him. Rest in peace my friend.
