Fast Lenny ask a question. I replied....
Cowboy, start your own damn thread!![]()
Honestly Lenny I think between the NEW RATING Number were NINES are now EIGHT, and my NEW POOL ACCESSORY Picture Below I am pretty much done with competition in the Valley of the Sun.
A couple of year ago I use to drive over to Tempe on Sunday for the Big Table Eights and Under NINE BALL when Tracy was the TD. Best I ever did was a Second, and THIRD.
Last time I played in a Tournament was early May of 09, the NEXT DAY I got my NEW POOL ACCESSORY on my Right LEG, being Left Handed it interferes with LEG MOVEMENT.
So I think I will stay retired from Tournament Play until the Rating Committee Members, and Bar Owner all get on the same CHANNEL.
Beside honestly if you figure expense to get to an Event, Entree FEE, Drinks, etc. it is a loosing proposition in the big picture even if you will $100.00.
I play every week, my cost is about $20-$25 every time I play, that is gas, food, drink and tournament. So lets just say I take 2nd which I did a couple weeks ago and win 80-90, I think I did okay. To me its about getting better and for $11 to play better players and have to give weight to weaker ones to challenge myself makes it worthwhile, different strokes for different folks I guess.
FAST LENNY, frankly I'd just as soon dump the rankings systems completely But since they exist I'm going to try to get the best deal I can. I moved from L.A. some time ago. There were no ratings systems there. I can live with out them. If I don't feel strong enough for a tournament and don't want to blow my $ I won't enter.
Fact is I would love to play in Lenny's Christmas round robin. but it does not make sense for me to drop $50.00 against that field. I respect their skills too highly. If I'm going to go up against that caliber player I want to do it head to head to learn new skills. Of course Scott Frost is absurd!
FAST LENNY, I have heard nothing but good things about you and appreciate all you have done for pool. You seem like the kind of a guy I can learn from.
I don't have a lot of money to entice you but how about 9-ball , race to 10 for $50.00, you spot me 7 out on 9-footers and I can only promise you one race but at least I'll get to play a minimum of 10 games with you. It would be worth every penny to me. By the way , my rating right now is a 5.:thud:
I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with Arizona's ranking system but it used to be something like this:
I'm a 6. If I played a 9 he would have to win 6 games to win the set . I would have to win 3. If he were an 8 then he would have to win 5 games to win set . I would have to win 3. If he were a 7 then he would have to win 4 games to win set. I would have to win 3. You'll notice here that 3 is the minimum number of games you must win to win a set. This method was not too bad. And I occasionally could be a threat to the better players
But the ranking czars, in the vastness of their wisdom have changed the rules. I am rewriting this because previously I had included a lot of effing insults here but I don't want the idiots to think I disrespect them.
They have decided to drop everybodies rank one notch. Brilliant.
So now I'm a 5. If I play an 8 (was a 9) he would have to win 5 games to win the set. I would have to win 3. If I played a 7 ( was an 8 ) he would have to win 4 games to win the set. I would have to win 3. If I play a 6 we would play even up.
You see, they did not change the rule that you must win a minimum of 3 games to win a set !!!! Obviously they thought that we weaker players should spot the stronger players one on the wire!
Have you seen that commercial where the man takes away the red
truck from the little boy and gives him a cardboard one and the boy looks up with arms spread and says, "This is a piece of junk." ?
Well here I stand with my mouth dropped opened and my arms spread.![]()

First Off, I have to say WOW!
Second, If you want to send me your name we can remove you from the rating book all together. I say this because your twisted view of the rating committee is taking away from your chances to win matches and tournaments. I'm trying to see your viewpoint and how you are somehow giving weight to higher rated players? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
Everyone on AZB and in the pool world knows that a Longer Race between two players benefits the better player. In the old system you were rated a 6 and if you played a 9 you would be getting 3 games on the wire. The system is based on full races to ones handicap. You would have to win 6 games to his/her 9 games. Now with everyone dropping one rating you are a 5 and that same opponent is now an 8. You would have to win 5 games to his/her 8. WOW! You are really getting screwed on this one!
The Handicap minus some number is a room owners choice to how they want to leverage the rating system and make it work for their customers. You obviously are talking about one room in particular. Also, if a room decides to put a minimum number that anyone has to race to, that is their own decision. This has absolutely nothing to do with the Rating Committee. Just like they have the choice to run any format on any given night and also limit the higher rated players by running 8 & Under's, etc. It's unfortunate that a bunch of rooms just lowered their rating limits in their tournaments instead of giving it a chance. By doing this they haven't given the system a chance, and that too is their choice as a room owner.
When you play in a 8 & Under tournament that is Handicap-3, you are getting even more weight than is intended by the overall ratings. If you are a 6 and play against an 8 you race to 3 and them to 5. A race to 3, are you kidding me? You are stealing in that match! But you think it's fair that in your case (Being a 5) that you race to only 2 games against an 8 racing to 5?!?
How many comments have you made at the Public held Rating Committee meetings? How many meetings have you attended? Do you have any idea what the many many reasons were to lower everyone one rating? Just another negative man putting down the people that are doing so many good things for pool and have here in AZ for many years. There are 30 - 40 Committee Members that vote plus many others who help run tournaments, run leagues, travel to tournaments all over the valley, cover stories, post results, etc. Many of which come from far away cities; Yuma, Flagstaff, Tucson, Havasu City as well as all regions of the Valley. There is no pay as all these people are volunteers.
If you would have been at one of the previous meetings you would have heard the consensus that any huge change like lowering everyone would take 1 - 2 years to really measure the results. Many room owners made statements about seeing new faces, more turnout and more players in various tournaments since the move. Some of the great stories came from the few rooms that had voted against the move initially.
I can't even begin to imagine what would happen if you actually increased your level of play and got raised to the new 6. Your lid might actually come right off!
1. Coco you are a nit .
2. Whom ever it concerns: If you want action there is plenty in AZ just go too the right room dumb ass.
3. Ratings: should be a,b,c format.
4. Jerry lets do it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lenny the legend . I love this game . 7 wild and the break. I'm not talkin' a tourney here. Some day I'll have enough gas money to get to Kolby's and I'll finally get to meet you. One hole, 10 -5, you can break. Race to ? You'll have to tell me the rules as we go along. I'm just woofin'. I can't get out there all the time . If I do I'll PM you. I really want to meet you. Your a good sport.:clapping:

I agree with Number 1.
