Arrested for Ivory sale

What month?

I have a cue with pre-ban ivory, I’m pretty sure. It’s dated July 10, 1989. Wondering if I need documentation from the cue maker.
Probably wouldn't be a bad idea...or, just travel with a different cue.
😎

Yes to that. I recently sold a cue with lots of that product. I chose to drive it 650 miles each way rather than screw around with shipping issues, tax issues and all the other bullshit that is life today.

The buyer agreed it was a cash deal and I had a short vacation too boot!

Screw the cops, screw the shipping thieves, screw the porch pirates and fork the tax man!

Easy peasy!

I out of high end cues shortly after 9-11

Felt the market was robust and due for a correction

As a result i havn't shipped a high end cue overnight since then , but will guess that the cost of next day air freight + ins on a $10K piece would be over 2 hun. If time isn't a factor hand delivery would be a great option

They don't apply to items made before the ban

They apply to items that guys claim were made after the ban, with preban ivory, without very clear documentation
The Feds will take any cues they find with ivory in them, even if they are small inlays. If your cue has pre-ban ivory in it you will have to prove it to them to get it returned. And it better be iron clad proof!

I got lucky one time when shipping a Tad to a buyer in Japan. They opened the box at the post office and then called a postal inspector to look at the cue. I waited over an hour until he showed up. In the package I had included the original bill of sale from Tad to his customer dated 1984. He looked at the cue, looked at the letter and said okay to the post office supervisor, he can ship it. Without that letter I would have lost that cue.

I think we are all screwed. Almost every plain jane cue until about the 90's came with ivory ferrules. And almost every custom cue until at least 2010 or so had ivory inlays. No one in "authority" will know the difference between those and new cues made after the ban. And all of us normal players will never in a million years have documentation to prove those cues were before the ban. I don't have a single receipt for any cue I ever bought, and all cash of course, except some recent cues I bought from Predator's site.

Yes to that. I have one high end Mike Bender with four shafts a matching jump break in a Justis Case which is not going anywhere.

I think CF is going to completely change cue collecting so I was happy to let the other go. A large collector in Florida put it away into his collection and even told me he was worried about them holding their value over time.

At my age I don’t need a lot of stuff anymore anyway!!!

Be well!

I would hire a lawyer just to make sure that mandatory $10,000 wildlife donation got delivered to the appropriate people and not into the hands of some corrupt New York asshole lol

A-I Will be used to skim through all forums social media sites to find anything this government can use to make money off of

The only surefire way to sell/transfer such a cue is in person, hand to hand. I bought a valuable Ginacue (10K) from a seller in Germany. He had it delivered to me in Las Vegas by a friend who flew in for a big tourney there. That cue was ALL Iv! Kept it a few years and needed money so I sold it (15K, online too) and met my buyer back in Vegas. All's well that end's well!

Nowadays you may have to drive somewhere to consumate a deal like this. No more planes, trains, mail or submarines! ;)

Don't we have some lawyers on this forum that could help us out with some sound legal advice on this topic?

Ivory plays like a pumpkin anyway, had tons of cues over the years with it and never cared for it. Now down to one lonely old JW and they’d be more than welcome to radiocarbon date that mfr 😂😂

See Jay, some of us old foxes find a way around whatever they toss in the road. They might slow us down but we remain one step ahead!

Yeah, how would you go about selling a loaded 1999 BB? Where are you going to advertise it? You need a nationwide audience, maybe even worldwide.

Some fed will meet at the mall parking lot agreed upon meeting spot with cuffs waiting.

I’d bet dollars to donuts Jay wouldn’t touch that “today” with a 10 foot pole?

There is probably a member of the ivory task force watching your every move and recording your phone calls.
The task force surveillance team is just waiting for you to make a move with that pool cue.
My advice is not to talk pool or pool cues with any,one you don't know
Put aluminum foil in all your hats and around windows.😂

This my friends is what happens in a state full of Democrat politicians and prosecutors.

Alvin Bragg....Jesus Christ

Guess you’d have to ask Jay. If the price was right you never know.

Not many people have one anyway so it's not a problem for most people. I would bet the very few that might own one would know exactly how to sell one. Or would not lose sleep over a pool cue of any kind. BB or whatever….

I love (old, documented) ivory in a cue. Looks sexy as all get out. I don’t believe I am contributing to the demise of the elephants, and I don’t think I am contributing to illegal poaching.

Anyone who hasn’t actually studied what’s happening in Africa to the elephants… they need to read up. I doubt that will happen because people who have their mind made up without facts will rarely change their mind or admit to it. Doubling down has always been the order of the day.
