I have a cue that I love the looks of, its made by a very famous cue maker-not Barry but up there like Barry, were gonna call him for this question but I thought I would get some input here, I dont think its possible but I'll ask anyways, also its a $8,000 cue so you unbderstand we have to know this will work we dont want to ruin the cue.
Problem: Cue's forearm is made of a soft wood, not Koa but it is soft enough that the cue is like a old whippy Muccie, I have put Gus, Barry, Bushka and a stiff Tiger shafts on the cue stiff ones I have a pile of them to try and the cue wollbles with a slow long vibration when you palm it, when you palm a South West it vibrates faster and the amount of flex is slower<-----poor description but i'm tired and at a loss for good words. Point is no matter what shaft I put on the cue the Forearm seems to have some give and the cue has brutal deflection, I'm not a deflection junkie, I play with a Gus I love, I let a up and comming Champion use it and he said it had less deflection than his cue-I'll take his word, the problem cue it the oppsite.
To the Question: Is is possible to core drill a finished cue to stiffen it up, Changing shafts dosent help enough, I put some old STIFF shafts and didnt help enough. I have been into alot of cue makers shops over the years, and understand how cues are made, I dont think its possible to core drill a finished cue, the wood is really soft its a 4 pt cue, the points dont look like CnC.
Any suggestions?
Sorry for the long post i'm just tired. Please PM if you want to know who made it I dont want to say here, its among the nicest looking cues I own.
