Whoa big fella, If you re-read the original post he mentioned there were TWO cuemakers and the lesser known CM refunded the deposit no questions asked, Mr Fisher came forward and said he was the lesser known CM (meaning he have back the deposit immediately). I for one think you owe Mr Fisher a HUGE apology.

PS to the original poster (bobroberts) , I wish you all the best in your health issues.

Maybe I souldn't say anything, but I'm the less known cuemaker, Bob the check is in the mail. I took the deposit for the Ivory in the cue Bob ordered. With the problems we had in the past year with 2 different shops, Bob waited patiently for 9 months for his cue. Bob was to get our first pointed cue. But as you've all read, Bob is Ill, I as a member of the human race would have felt very guilty about not returning his deposit in this situation. Bob, My best wishes to you and your family. We did happen to put a wrap on the cue that was ment for you. It's the last pointed cue in our pointed cue page. I hope you get well, and yes order another cue from us, and this time, you know no deposit required, and I'm sure no 9 month wait.:(

Best Wishes to our friend in pool, and in life,

It is very good that you would do a thing like that, good luck selling the cue it looks really good.

:) i understand you were just sticking up for Bob.. and it is very nice you appologized, and i commend you for that.. it seems most people here on the forum want to do the right thing when it comes right down to it.. every once and awhile you will get a few people who dont.. and it always takes a bigger man to be the one who sets things right..

To the original poster, I wish you all the best with your health.

Bryan:

You are quite the man for stepping forward and I took a look at your website and the craftsmanship and materials look to be top notch.

Though I am not in the market for another cue right now, I will certainly keep your name in mind when I start looking again.

contacting the cue builder

I am not really worried about the money.I am just surprised that the CM did not respond. If things dont go well for me my family will either have a good cue or they can sell it for probably more.I just wanted to see the replys here.
I am actually surprised that I didnt get more responses.

Bob,

Let me be honest and say that with a 90% complete cue sitting there, the only reasons for the cue builder to give you a refund are compassion and very possibly good public relations since you have went public with the issue. As you can see the guessing games have begun and some good men's names have already been bandied about a bit because of your signature lines.

My question is, are you sure that you and the cue builder are actually communicating? You say that you contacted him and explained your position and that you would probably need a refund and then the follow-up was by e-mail. There are a lot of ways for an e-mail to go astray these days and they never were a 100% reliable form of communication.

I recommend calling the cue builder and talking to him. Most probably an arrangement can be worked out that suits both of you. I do have to say that even if the cue builder is not helpful, you haven't been wronged, you just haven't been given extra consideration.

No reflection on you but how charitable any businessman is feeling is often governed by how long it has been since he has been hooked by a big story. When I was running a storefront I dealt with scammers large and small on a daily basis. It does leave you a bit distrustful of all stories, including the true ones unfortunately.

yes I apologize rackem

if you guys have seen half the crap I have in this industry you might
understand my cynicism

Hello,

I didn't post to brag, or be better than anyone else, I believe Bob, and know how it is to have hard times. I know there will be some who will have read the posts before the retraction, and this will probly follow me for awhile. In some situations I may have not given back the deposit, or maybe partial. But I know I can sell this cue, so no need. Not to mention, Bobs reason for needing the deposit back, for me it wasn't about doing the right thing, I did the human thing. Whats right for me, may not have been right for Bob and his family. I had a friend and customer pay for a cue, about 3 weeks before it was finished he asked for his money back. His reason was he'd lost $1000 at the casino and was busted. I refused to give him a dime back before I sold it. He was very angry, but reasons like this aren't going to pull at my heart strings, or get me to feel sorry for him. His cue had buckhorn joint, 2 shafts, and the ring work was awsome. We had alot of money, and time in this cue, not to mention hours of designing the cue with the customer. Different situations all together.

Anyway, I know some people will think I'm the cuemaker that didn't give back the deposit, I'll have to live with it, but I know I did the right thing for Bob, and his family.

deposit

I need to set the record straight.Hopefully I am not going anywhere real soon.I am finding out if I will be going on the liver transplant list.I should of cleared my signature before i posted.I contacted the CMs by e-mail.This post has nothing to do with what I have in my signature spot.
I can understand if the CM dosnt want to refund me.I would of liked a answer either way.
I figured I would wait till the end of the month to call him.If I dont get to use it then my son will be.I probably should of not started this.It is more stressfull and tiring then if i just of waited for the cue to show up.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and if you want to part with a small piece piece of your liver B+ then let me know.

I agree with you to some extent, but is the first CM really a scam artist? A little unsympathetic true (downright mean maybe), but if 2 years is his normal wait time and he has a no refund policy he isn't scamming anybody. Until we know all the facts and hear from the cuemaker it is premature to jump down his throat.
JMHO.

While I sympathize with the guy and his medical problems they are his problems not the cuemakers. I think a deposit is a promise to go through with the deal and the cuemakers part in the deal is to agree to invest in materials and labor. To ask for the money back is like signing a lease and then not understanding that you can't just up and leave. Business is business.

It would be nice to be wealthy and not have a problem givng the $$ back but cuemakers are like you and me.. working stiffs with bills to pay and that guy has a lot invested in this cue...... probably considerably more than the deposit will cover. He's going to come out a loser on this... hell... it's a lose/lose situation. If I were the cue maker I'd feel sorry for the guy and I'd wish I could help but I'm already out time and mabye money and .. again.. a deal is a deal.

Sorry to be a hard ass but that's life.

Sadly, I agree with you. I've bought many cues from cuemakers and I always figured in normal circumstances a deposit was not refundable. Why else have one? In the original posters case it would be nice of the maker to make an exception....I would. But he should not be looked down upon if he choses not to. The only time a refund should be required is when they grossly exceed their delivery date and a refund is requested.
