AZ Buildoff Cues

Well it's a little late for that :D However, I think Shawn had quite a few people try the Molavia tips and pretty much NO ONE liked them. Just for the record, I've had many layered tips from differant makers (even out of the same box) that were all over the place. I will say, these triangles seemed pretty darn consistent from cue to cue

No Problem..what done is done.

Just my opinion but I think the pics of the shafts that these builders used should be rated as well. The shaft makes the cue and I would like to see what quality each builder chose for their shaft. I'm sure the best hitting cue will also have the best shaft wood of the lot.

Also, I notice John Morra saying one tip is hard and another cue had a soft tip....was this after the tips were changed?

Also changed my initial post and added a few comments on tip. Feedback on what they didn't like about the Molavia would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Duc.

Hi Guys,

I thought the point of this was to test the cues with a consistent layered tip? I believe the Molavia would have been a lot more consistent than a one piece triangle tip. I would have liked that the Molavia tips be tried by other to get proper feedback on them....like them or not..if all the cues has the same tip...you should have a good idea of how each of them performed. With the Triangle...it's miss and hit. Out of a box of 50...you have variances in hardness. Ideally, they should also be pressed for consistency. I also think that each cue builders can also be judged by how they put on their tip....so if the original tip was removed that may have an impact on playability.

Just out of curiosity...what did they not like about the Molavia? Any feedback would be really appreciated as we are constantly looking for ways to improved them.

Thanks,
Duc.

All the cues had the Molavia tips on them, Eric Crisp shot with all the cues and he suggested the tips bechanged because they felt too spongy. I used one of the extra Molavia tips on my playing cue even before Eric commented on them and I did not like it either. It was a Med and way too soft and felt really spongy on the cue. There were 2-3 people there at Magoos that shot with all the cues and everyone disliked the tips because they were soft and spongy. When I took the cues to Olathe, a few people hit with them, John Morra being one, and he didnt liek the tips. Eric Crisp, myself and a few others were in agreement that the Triangle tips would be a good "medium" So I had Doug Patrick put on some Triangle tips and I immediately shot with the cues, it was like night and day on each cue. The triangle tips brought the cues to life. So I am happy we changed the tips. Not everyone is the same, but when you have 8-10 players in a row say they do not like the tips, then I felt we needed a change. I alone am responsible for making this decision.

Maybe if we had Molavia Hard it would have been different, but the mediums were just too soft and spongy.

Any other questions about the tips I will be more than happy to answer them questions.

Thanks

And Duc, I really do appreciate your support!!!!!

Hi Shawn,

Thanks for the feedback. I know John from Canada and the kid plays good and get better every time I see him play. I ran into John at the US open just recently. Anyway, John was actually one of the first few that tried the Molavia and he really liked how they played. I can't remember if he tried medium or hard thought...I sold these tips to him and his father about maybe 4-5 years ago when they I first introduce them in Canada.

Yes, the hard Molavia may have been a better choice as it really a medium hard tip and the medium Molavia is a softer tip than the Moori Medium.

In any case, I still think having the original tip installed regardless of the common tip use would have been preferable for testing. These cues do look good...especially the purpleheart handle cues.

The next person with the cue should take details pic of the shafts for these cues. Really like to see what quality or characteristic each builder chose for their cue.

If you're looking for another tester....please add me to the list. I'm in Queens, NY and play out of Master Billiards. We have a lot of good players that wouldn't mine taking these beauty for a test ride. I think George (Ginky) would be happy to provide feedback on these cues if I get them here along with a few other pros if they're around.

Regards,
Duc.

ugotactionTX Send me the results so I can get them posted..

Also, I will state this about every cue involved. There is not 1 cue in the bunch, that I would not own. They just all have different hits.

I will try to post a review. I somewhat posted some information about them before but I will try to be specific.
It might hurt somebody's feelings but I would only own 4 of the 7 cues I have tried. There is at least 1 cue from the bunch that must have been on a pile of unusable sneakies that were supposed to be firewood.
The effort from everybody is appreciated but I need to give my honest opinion. I do it in the same way my customers criticize my work as well.

Tony, I dont want anything sugar coated. We have to be honest so the cue makers can take this information and hopefully use it to make a better cue. That was my intentions for this all along. Not everyone will like each and every cue, everyone has to realize that is just life.

I appreciate your honesty.....Rock On Brutha!

Am I Next

It is getting close to see these babies in the evergreen state.
Can't wait

Am I up !!!
Am I up !!!

I would think that the cues would stay on the East coast first. Then the middle of the country then the west coast. This way they are not going back and forth and this will save a lot of time.
App. when will all the parties involved give there reviews or will they each give reviews as they get the cues?
I see that they are all going back and forth,Oh well.
Why isn't there any info on the poolgoog website about the build off ?

About the poolgoog website, a guy said he was gonna update it, guess he hasnt, I honestly have not checked since it is all right here. Thanks though, I will remove it from my sig line. Let me plot everyone on the map again and see the easiest rout to take.....its changed so many times....I will get it corrected by this evening though for all to see

Just waiting on ugotactionTX reviews, and some from BENFICA

Ok, Here's my feedback. I think honestly, the tips from Duc Lam were just dead feeling. I didn't feel any responsiveness and had a much better result after trying the cues with the Triangles. I had personally played Triangles for 10+ years, so I am very sensitive to that tip. Even the fact that Triangles differ from tip to tip, it still has a very good level of consistency within that range of fluctuation.

The cues were all built in a superb manner, except for one, and I actually thought that cue hit pretty dang good. That cue was the stained cue with the curly handle. The first cue and the last cue hit the most solid and the third cue hit with the most feedback and tone. I will post more when I find my paper.

Cue 1 - 4 stars
Cue 2 - 3 stars
Cue 3 - 3 stars
Cue 4 - 4 stars
Cue 5 - 2 stars
Cue 6 - 4 stars

If this is the route the cues are actually taking, it looks geographically correct to me..short trips between stops.

I wish they were closer to the east coast, still seems like forever 'till I can try 'em...grr. :)

Why not try raffling off the cues without telling who built them? If each cue is well built, then let the buyer be surprised!

Hi,
They all look well built. As these are smaller producers, why not extend the anonymity until their distributed here? I also like the idea of splitting up lot and auctioning off, your feedback included. Mostly, so I could get my hands on #6!

We will try actioning off the whole group first, if no interest, then individually....but with 3 of the names that I know of, they will all auction off....

But, we will just have to see how it goes
