I don't know anymore :frown:

I used to come home and search the For Sale Section then go to Ask the Cue maker (Still Civilized) then to the all the other forums.

It seems that all I see nowadays is negative sh*t,

Some may be warranted, although it drags on and on and on, like it will never end.

Then I see comments that are totally worthless as in the,
"What does Eddie Wheat Drink ??". WTF cares ????

You don't see any of the guy's that have actually been slaughtered in these threads ie: Deano, etc, etc, etc, posting comments on these issues..........they have to much class.

You all seem to want pool to be something of a classy sport, then I think it may be time to start acting the part.

I hope this site returns to something that it was a few years ago. :rolleyes: :smile:

There are many great threads still. True there are some pointless ones too. It's really just becoming more like the pool room with a wide variety of personalities.

If you don't like a thread,don't post in it. These complaining threads are annoying to me, but I respect your view.

Its still the best by far, though. Ignore the filler and there is still plenty of great stuff. Incardona and Freddie didn't post here until relatively recently so some things are much better.

NPR has changed quite a bit and seems to be dominated by 2 or 3 people and 90% politics, but I just don't bother clicking on that section hardly anymore.

The cues section of this site alone is worth clicking on here every day.

I became an AZ member the beginning of April of this year. I think there are many good things about this site. There are many friendly, smart people who love this sport as we do. These smart witty people contribute very informative and entertaining information.(I really get a kick out of most of the threads and posts) (Now here is where the BUT comes in!!)
BUT, then there are the people who have nothing better to do other than ruin some good threads on this site. Yes, you have a VERY valid point.
When I run across these threads and posts, I just SIGH. Rather than say anything, I usually ignore it.
I still have faith. Maybe someday these people with grow up. LOL
 
I feel your pain. This is NOT the same forum it was when I joined, that's for sure. What it comes down to is lack of moderation, plain and simple. We're supposed to be adults on this site for the most part. However between the tender egos and scammers of late it has changed for the worst. I won't stop coming here but wading through the trash has become a chore.

I am new to AZB. I appreciate the warnings about disreputable business people. I have read the Varney thread and it would seem to me that the person who paid and did not recieve his cue should call the postal inspector to determine if this is a case of mail/wire fraud.I have also seen another cue maker interject himself for no other reason then to self promote while claiming to act in the best interest of the "Forum".Your thread seems to be a complaint about people complaing.The beauty of this site is the option of choice. If you do not care to read a thread then don't. I would not do business with either of them after what I have read. Iwould appreciate it if more people who have had negative experiences with business people in these forums would provide warnings and proof.I would also like to see AZB take action against the disreputable and expose their illegitamate practices.

In my opinion you are absolutely right. When I joined several years ago many/most of the threads were actually about the game with topics like rules, various types of shots, cues tips, kicking, banking,diagrams and useful things to players trying to learn about the game.

At that time I read the forum daily if not more..

In the last year or so however I've really gotten turned off by all the BS, personal attacks, useless threads, etc. Now I look at the forum maybe twice a month and seldom see anything I want to read.

For those of you who have just joined, if you could go back into the archives 2-3 years and read all the posts, you could see what a really good pool forum could be like. Then you would understand the difference..

I don't read the attack threads that go on ad nauseum, but some of you guys should get a life and find something to do.

Thank you for accepting my comment in a constructive manner! I have been an attorney for almost 30 years and I have heard almost every joke regarding the profession.I like most of them. I was not here (AZB) for the good old days so I have nothing to compare to the current state of the forum. I have enjoyed reading many threads, posts etc. I have learned a lot of information regarding tables , cues , tournaments and players. I have tried to be selective in my reading.I do agree that there is a lot of "fluff" but it is easy to identify and disregard. I too would rather be shooting pool then writing about threads.

I was wondering when somebody was going to chime in about this cue maker....It was 100% self promotion period, and it makes me ill everytime I read one of his posts.....

partially just the nature of the beast

Seems to me that several things happen as a successful pool forum ages. One is the people who once participated in great threads have said the same things over and over until they are tired of it and quit repeating themselves. These same people have developed many friendships over the years and tend to chat with their friends and share personal events more than hardcore information. They are comfortable with each other and already know each others thoughts on most things.

Then there is the constant influx of newcomers. They will ask the same tired old questions and a few will answer and most will ignore the thread even though it is more pool related than most.

I don't have any solutions to these issues, just what I have noted after about twenty years on the net. One thing to remember, a few years from now many of the people on AZB will be looking back at right now and calling it the good ol' days!

I feel it is still the best going forum, but it could be a lot better. I feel it is due to the growth of the forum. In the past, it was largely made up of hard core pool players. That isn't so anymore. Now it is largely made up of league players. For the most part, they like the game, and care more about what tip to use, or what cue to use this week, than how to make a shot or play a pattern, or get better in general. There is nothing wrong with that, it just is different than it used to be. And it is hard to make the change.

I started posting to try and pass on what knowledge I have about the game- to try and make it easier for others, and to learn more. It is frustrating to have a good post get 20 views, while a post about 'check out my new cue' gets 200 views. But, that is just a change we have to make. I have been known to make 'fluff' posts myself at times. Sometimes it's hard not to get caught up in this big soap opera.

The part I don't understand, is why some seem to get joy out of being antagonistic. There are some strange people on here, just as in life.

I'm pretty new here.......I think the site, the knowledge shared, the books to read and videos recommended, as well as the live links, the challenge shots, pattern questions, and ALL of the variety of information is totally AWESOME!!!!!!!!

I agree, Tommy, it's gone downhill in the last couple years. I used to participate a lot more than I do now, got caught up in the drama a few times and regret it. It just is what it is, keep the good and pass on the trash. Like most successful businesses, if continuous quality improvement/control isn't maintained then it eventually goes to crap and someone else will come along with something better.
