I would like to hear your thoughts on that Justin.

Tonkin is one I expected to see out there, but this Jake H. I don't think I've ever heard of him. He builds an amazing cue for sure! There are some other cues I thought would for sure have more, like the Gina, or the Herceck cue. I thought for sure there would be a lot of votes cast more for a name then a cue, and it has been anything but!

I'm delighted with the results! Of course I would have loved to see my builder out in front, and I think "The Loose Cannon" is the most beautiful cue up here, but at the same time there are so many GREAT cues in the running, it's nice just to be mentioned.

I did not think there were this many cues, of such a high caliber, to be considered. I thought there would be like 5-10 cues that would be HUGE stand outs, and really there isn't. Any one of these cues could be the cue of 2012 and it wouldn't be there by mistake.

FWIW, It is wonderful to watch the votes get counted!

best,

Justin

I'm surprised that this 2012 Szamboti hoppe did not make it on the cue of the year list.

IMO the hoppe Szamboti was the biggest cue of the year, Barry doesn't often make them any fancier.

To bad nobody nominated it.:confused::confused:

I had voted for that Szamboti Hoppe it was the nicest Cue and was sold to fast:(:frown::frown::frown:
thanks Mike for showing again

So, the Szam hoppe just got three UNOFFICIAL/UNCOUNTED votes for 2012's cue of the year.

Actually, it did not receive any official votes since no one submitted an entry for it. The entry thread was open for two weeks. The Cue of the Year thread happens every year at the same time. It always amazes me how people come into the thread after the fact and want to throw the rules out the window.

I'm not picking on you Mike because it happens every year.

I received a lot of very nice PM's and emails about running the AZB Cue of the Year and people asking me to continue to do it. That has inspired me to not only do it again next year... but to do it bigger and better than ever. I have ideas...

You ARE doing a great job at this. It is at times a thankless job, I'm sure. I look forward to next year as I'm sure I will have an entry or two.

Happy New Year my friend!

The Jake H cue is ahead IMO because it is refreshingly different without being strange or overdone . If I could pick one cue to own personally though it would be Jimmy's Gina. As far as the Szamboti goes its really only great because of the name. Don't get me wrong it's a killer Szamboti but nothing new or different. Congrats to all the owners you should all be proud great cues all around

I'm not sure if there is any particular guidelines or considerations for voting other than is the cue beautiful so to speak.

I think only two cuemakers stepped outside of the box:

Tony Z the Gambler cue...his contemporary take on an old school design is brilliant.

Jake H cue is as someone put "it is refeshingly new" and different in design.

Most of the other cue makers did pretty much what they do everyday....I'm not saying there isn't anything wrong with that....I would like to see cue of the year to be something new or a twist on something old. I mean really push the envelope.

My taste is pretty much traditional and contemporary traditional and I am a little biased.

For creativity a tough call between Tony Z and Jake....I give the edge to Tony.

For all out beautiful cues where the design flows:
Zinzola Gambler
Szamboti Twins
Szamboti Barbell
Haley Hell Boy
Gina Snakewood Box cue
Haley....one design change and it would probably have been the winner
Manzino Box
Mobley
Hercek Copper

So my vote is......................

Couldn't agree more.

So Jake made a 3 point full splice with bridged veneers and boxes

I have been hearing so much about his cues,i am glad to see the first
one

from what i have been hearing,Jake may be the biggest talent to enter the field in years

the news i get is from cue makers that i respect

is it true that Jake is not actually selling the cues except to friends in the area

i hate to think i might have to move to Sherman to get one

Jake, keep coming with the beauties, you got rare talent

Am I missing something here ? Granted the cue looks OK, but cue of the year??

Some one please enlighten me.

TommyT

I suppose when a cue as innovative in design and concept as the Veneered Wonder comes along, the name of the builder matters less than it usually does on AZB.

The Szamboti might be the biggest Barry cue of the year, but imo nothing about it elevates the cue to stand with this field. Many cues nominated don't really belong either.

Please remember Roger, no cues were "nominated". If a cue was submitted as an entry, then it was included.

Jamie, I am well aware. I should've been more clear. Thanks for doing this every year, once again a job well done.

Lots of beautiful cues in this years cue of the year contest.
All should be commended in a positive way for the effort put into these cues.
There is no criteria or judging standards, it's just the personal preference of all us AZer's. This is a fun thing we do and there are no losers.
Just the posters trying to ruin it for everyone.
If you don't like something, get over it..
Best,
Ken

I have considered this thread to be a genuine treat, and a reason to log on more than usual. To see the beautiful , exceptional cues all on display in a single location is like going to a cue show, and each Cuemaker is to be thoroughly congratulated for the magnificent work on display.

We all owe special recognition to Jamie Wernsman for all the hard work to pull this together for everyone, both the participants and the viewers and voters. .....Jamie, THANK YOU.....
