AZB Logo Contest

Hmmm both Jeff and Donovans entrys look good. I think Jeffs goes more toward advertising or a replacement for the front page at AZBilliards. Donovans I think is more toward the forum area. Donovan, you need some numbers on the balls though.

Almost as good as my submission in the Un-official logo thread:D

Colin, I just saw your submission and it's funny (left out a couple but that's alright....Gremlin would sue Mike for unauthorized use of his image).:D

Terry

btw: My post is not supposed to have any deep meaning....just showing the 3 highest profile members of the board that have been banned. I sould have stuck Shorty in their too, but he's out free for now:p

Whether or not those people should have been banned, I'll leave that for yall to decide.

Ah yes, I forgot Gremlin:confused: I guess there have been other well known poster's banned, but I can't recall them all...and that graphic took me more than enough time anyway.

It's a play on the recent arguments about over-regulation here. But honestly, I don't feel Mr. Wilson etc are doing too bad a job. It's not easy to please all the people all the time:( ...

My Take

Here's my take. I'm a Web and Software developer. I've won some awards from Apple, I make a good living, yada yada. (I'm not saying this to brag, but simply to say that I'm not just some guy sitting around making web pages for my cat with FrontPage or something.)

The first thing this site needs to do to improve the visual experience of the forums is to take my offer to buy them a theme. I run a vBulletin forum of my own and it looks nice.

You're all leaping into the designing of a logo, but any logo you create for this blue/white "default" theme/skin would look bad if they ever do take me up on my offer to buy them a theme/skin.

Replacing the "vBulletin" logo with a customized one for AZB is easier once you know what the theme will look like. And a LOT of things can be replaced, including "new post" indicators. Look at this forum, for example. It uses phpBB which has a lot more free themes, but in this case, I took a soccer theme named "JustFooty" and replaced a few graphics to make it look great for a pool/billiards forum.

So I think creating a logo is getting one step ahead of the game. Let's get a new theme in here (vbstyles.com has some, as do some other sites - have a look around) and THEN worry about replacing the logo...

Eric, I went out to vbstyles and I think I will take you up on the offer. I think some fun things could easily be done with the Tech Two style. How do we go about doing this?

I believe your advice and the examples you linked to have strengths, but as you say, you are a website developer and not a marketer. A brand, as represented by a logo is very important...and of course the theme should be consistant. I didn't see any evidence of branding on the website examples you linked to.

Colin <~ Just being a smart ass marketing guy:D

Check my website www.ShanghaiPool.com as an example.
[edit] - Apologies...your Sand Trap logo is quite nice.

I like that images can be used in the signature of the posts. An image of a persons John Hancock, is a nice touch. As long as we have Mike's attention, here is a screen capture from your site as an example.

I'm going to jump in the fray, Colin, but I don't know which logo thread to jump into! So I picked this one. :p

When I first discovered AzBilliards website, I had thought that the A-z in "AzBilliards" stood for the State of Arizona. I don't know if that stems from the website's origin, but if it is, then maybe a color scheme of desert colors and a Santa Fe-type logo would be nice.

However, the past several years, the AzBilliards website has grown to be more national/international in scope, having membership from across the globe. The Main Page to me is like a pool newspaper, keeping me up to date on the pool news. The tournament schedule is a great tool for pool players to find out about upcoming events. :D

Since I have been posting on AzBilliards, several people told me that the A-z in AzBilliards meant the "A to Z" of billiards. If this is the case, then the sky is the limit on a logo design. A color scheme would be nice. I'm partial to green and purple!

If and when the new additions to the forum are added, I hope it does not slow it down in any way because of the graphics, for the dinosaurs like me on dial-ups at home.:o

Just some thoughts...:p
