AZB Tournaments?

Just thinking. Musing about the AZB Room at DCC -- it keeps occurring to me that in areas with enough members, local or regional AZB tournaments would be a good thing. The OnePocket.Org folks seem to be successful with their events. I know if I ran a pool hall I would be interested in having such events in my room.

Has it been done before?
Would any of y'all be interested?

Y'all know where y'all live and who's close, so where are there clusters of members who might participate?

That could be fun. I always enjoying putting faces to screen names. Who all are here from Ohio?

I don't recall any AZB tournament in the AZB room or elsewhere. Over the years, I've arranged a game with fifteen or twenty people whom I know from the forum only.

Without exception, I always had a good experience. FYI, I didn't gamble with any of them.

We’ve had many internet forum get togethers and tournaments over the last 25 years. But maybe not a specific AZB tournament. I’ve played dozens of AZBers in these forum tournaments as well at individual meetups.

We used to have the "AZB Kings" thing, but that never really took off past a few matchups.

Yes, the 1pocket guys do like their events.

They’ve got one coming up in Amsterdam and some seem willing to fly from the East Coast through Iceland to get there.

There have been other past forum events, most notably RSB events in New England and Chicago. But those were long ago.

Do you have names to go along with the faces in both pictures that post on here? You're front and center in both but who are the rest here?

Off the top of my head, in the larger group pic, I’m sure of Dan White last row in the green, Fred to the right, then Bev and Eric at the Jimbo Jambo, Jimbo in the orange.

The second is from, I believe, the first Windy City Occasional. To the left of me is Ron Shepard in black, Deno Andrews in pink, and PJ behind me in white.

I don’t have enough brain cells left to positively ID many of the others. My apologies to them.

Sorry. I did not mean that tournaments occurred in the AZB Room. But, thanks for keeping things straight.

What I was attempting to reference was the camaraderie which was apparently found there by AZB members who were fortunate enough to have participated. Some recent threads told me that the DCC Room was a success and would continue to be so if afforded an opportunity. It also seemed to me that on top of all of the DCC hoopla, it was too much to handle -- there is such a thing as too much fun. Sooo . . . in the final analysis, it seemed that smaller, conveniently located events might be enjoyed by all, but y'all decide. (If the 1P cats were not being successful, I would probably not have said a thing.)

Yes, I think you're right.

I recall going to a Cue Makers show in Chicago several years ago. It was advertised here on ASB for a fair amount of time. I personally would love to see it reappear.
