azbilliards and onepocket.org

I own Onepocket.org and I wish I had the techno savvy of Mike and his AZB staff. I do the best I can with what little I know about the techno side LOL. Mike is always working to improve AZB, my hat's off to him!

If you had any idea what the actual situation was, then you might be qualified to comment on it. But you don't.

Mike

Stop the rumors-tell us the actual situation and how it occurred out of the blue?

No geek talk though :)

Id seriously like to know just so i have an idea of some of the pitfalls of owning a medium ? size website. Thanks

We don't always see eye to eye, but this time we do. It's pitiful that someone would complain that the site is down. It's a billiards forum, not your online bank account. It's even more pitiful that someone who is not a paid supporting member, is complaining that the site is down.

I heard ( probably another rumor ) that the config files got really messed up. They weren't planning on switching servers but had to at that point.

I'm guessing he is in his early to late 20's and a gamer. :) I'm on a lot of game forums and if something goes down for 5 minutes people go crazy.

No, the two sites are not owned by the same person.

Based on the type of person that you just explained that you were though, I suspect you will find the most inviting site to be liakosbilliards.com

Mike

I can only say that my experience dealing with you have been very positive. You fairness to me will always be appreciated.

Welcome Back !

Mike....Hope your doing well.

And for the one pocket thought ka teers.

When you visit One Pocket . Org, your hanging out with old Rounders/Gamblers & players from before you were born.

Even the herd there ''tangle'' at times.

Those old guyz serve up so much lemonade, that sometimes ya spill it on yourself.

Try and make a ''fair'' game with one of em....then let us know how that goes :). And don't tell the old guy that he still shoots like he did 50 years ago, ''we already heard that jibber''. If ya wanna pet the old ''dog'' ya gotta be nice :).

hold on, because sometimes things happen that are unforeseeable.

My nine year old could of changed the servers and never took down the site.
They hired some knucklehead and it took them two days....

Let me guess..... They hired the cheapest Information technology tech they could find.....

NO WAY EVER SHOULD OF THE SITE BEEN DOWN FOR SO LONG FOR SIMPLE SERVICE.

sometimes things happen that are either out of people's control or unforeseeable.

We recently changed one of our ISPs and all of our external ips changed.

We couldn't send emails to any microsoft hosted email servers. They had some outdated spoofing detection and thought that the ip change meant we were spoofing the actual email server.

We had to wait for microsoft to remove our mail server domain from their blocked list.

Wasn't really foreseeable (wouldn't have mattered if it was) nor was it in our control. We had to wait for Microsoft to remove us from the list.

Couldn't send any emails to microsoft customers for two days.

I'm the IT director for a company with over 800 employees. We run our own Zimbra server.

Shit happens and it doesn't mean that people are incompetent or cheap.

No, it had nothing to do with config files. Since I was the one working on getting the sites back online, I am a little confused as to who would feel they knew what happened well enough to spread rumors about it.

You are right though, that we were not planning on switching servers. I would never schedule something like that during a major event and certainly not while I am working from the road.

We had a drive go out on us and we had to get everything up and running on a new server. The problem was compounded by different versions of the management software on the new server and me trying to work on things remotely.

A buddy told me he heard it while watching Turning Stone. I only caught bits and pieces besides on Sunday and the only thing I heard was the trying to switch servers bit. Either way, the service you guys provide at no cost to most and cheap for gold members I don't see how anyone would complain about being offline for a couple days. Thanks for all you guys do! What a thankless job lol.

I don't know what people are complaining about. AzB is for fun, education and so on. Big deal it was down for a short time. We knew you'd be back.... Bigger and better. Anyway thanks for providing the AzB forum. I got a lot of good things out of of it so far.

To liakos: Why are you upset at the site? Is it because it went down? Is it because of a moderator issue? A member issue? A way you were treated by one of the above? Something else?

I enjoy 1p. I started from scratch and got a lot of good stuff from it. Lots of geezers (I'm one)...... Geezers = experience. Seasoned people and players.

Are they under the same management? Not too happy with these people here so if they are the same people I don't want to be a part of something that I'm not happy with!

Thanks
Eli

Yet you are still here (somehow) and a small insignificant part of AZB right?
