THANKS to all our AZB Gold Members. Supporting the website helps us provide great content like this!

This is the crown jewel right here. This is worth the AzBilliards membership's weight in gold [pun intended].

Hip, hip, hooray! Man, this is so very cool. The National Billiard News is only one of a very few that has a record of what was happening in the pool world back in the '60s and '70s.

There are quite a few authors that you will recognize, and the content is rich, filled with little pool nuggets.

I purchased copies of National Billiard News from 1975 to 1986, as many as they still had available to sell, about 10 years ago. I still cherish them very much. I have little stickes in them, bookmarking important data that I'm interested in.

THANK YOU, AZBILLIARDS. This is best thing ever!

Man this is PURE GOLD for sure!!... Wow THANK YOU AZB... I knew there's more to this Gold membership than what I thought. Traps me -I'm in again. I wish there were longer term membership options. This is a history buffs dream come true. So Cool.

Randy

Does that have anything to do with the appearance of this Goldmine button?

Great, now my collection of Billiard News from 1970 to 1990s is now worth nothing instead of little to nothing.

Saddle up and take a ride in the time machine back to Nov. 1994 for Efrens first major title at the 19th U.S. Open....

Or visit Dec. 1993 for Burton Spain's ACA honors....

Or stop by Feb. 1995 for a special look at the winning Mosconi Cup team featuring Mark Wilson....

Don't forget Ewa's gigantic 1980's hair....

Or how about a visit with Jean Balukas in May of 1975....

Or take a peek at Johnny Archer in Dec. 91' with the caption " A Star Is Born"...

Or maybe take a gander at the babe kissing Mcready on the cover of Nov. 91'
( is that JAM?? Gasp)

How about an article by Jay Helfert on the one pocket event at Hard Times in Feb. 1990....it's only a quarter century ago lol....

Its pure Gold ladies and gents, pure gold.

So Awesome! Bring me back in time when me and my Dad would go to all the 14.1 Tournaments
Pool was Classy then, let's bring it back.
Thanks to AZ for all you do.

This is amazing, worth far more than the price of the gold membership. Bravo gentlemen, Bravo

Well, I immediately had to go to November 1991 to see my Keithie on the cover. It was the Lexington Bar Table Championship. And it wasn't me kissing him on the cheek. I can't wait for Keith to rise and shine, so I can find out *WHO* that pretty little filly was. :grin-square:

I had never seen this edition before, and Idevoured every single word in that article. It came down to the finals with Keith vs, Ismael Paez. Jose Parica and "Dennis the Menace" Hatch, as he was called back then, came in third and fourth. Bar table favorite of the Midwest Dave Matlock came in 17th. There were a lot of champions in that tournament, too.

It was at this tournament Keith engaged Dave Matlock in an action game after hours during the event. Keith was backed by some guy named "Dean," if memory serves me right.

The author said that Keith "played like Keith of old," which to me meant that Keith had already developed a reputation for partying and gambling high, literally, but not performing well in the tournaments. Back then, tournaments were a meeting place for the action players, and I do know that Keith's favorite form of gambling back then was on the bar box *and* with a big cueball. I'm not sure what cueball this tournament had, so I will find that out.

This online National Billiard News archive is the best thing that has happened to pool in a very, very long time, as far as I'm concerned. I will be poring through each and every edition of the ones I don't have and digesting each delicious article, which will fill in a lot of blanks for me.

I can't say enough good things about National Billiard News. Man, I love this. :lovies:

that's a great chance for someone from abroad like myself to be able to get acquainted with a piece of pool history in its prime.

I suggest we make a special thread where readers could share "must read" articles, like those mentioned by Mr.Bond. Otherwise it could take a lifetime until I get to these ;)

...The only thing I'm missing is ability to grab the zoomed page with the cursor and move it around. For the time being I have to click the zoom lense at the very place I need to zoom

There are still a few glitches here and there. You can switch to full screen mode instead of zooming if you want.

We're seeing the fewer amount of bugs using Chrome on either Mac or PC.

For those using Yosemite on Mac, Safari 8.0 won't display the fullscreen button...
