...Or maybe take a gander at the babe kissing Mcready on the cover of Nov. 91'
( is that JAM?? Gasp)....
Well, I immediately had to go to November 1991 to see my Keithie on the cover. It was the Lexington Bar Table Championship. And it wasn't me kissing him on the cheek. I can't wait for Keith to rise and shine, so I can find out *WHO* that pretty little filly was. :grin-square:
I had never seen this edition before, and Idevoured every single word in that article. It came down to the finals with Keith vs, Ismael Paez. Jose Parica and "Dennis the Menace" Hatch, as he was called back then, came in third and fourth. Bar table favorite of the Midwest Dave Matlock came in 17th. There were a lot of champions in that tournament, too.
It was at this tournament Keith engaged Dave Matlock in an action game after hours during the event. Keith was backed by some guy named "Dean," if memory serves me right.
The author said that Keith "played like Keith of old," which to me meant that Keith had already developed a reputation for partying and gambling high, literally, but not performing well in the tournaments. Back then, tournaments were a meeting place for the action players, and I do know that Keith's favorite form of gambling back then was on the bar box *and* with a big cueball. I'm not sure what cueball this tournament had, so I will find that out.
This online National Billiard News archive is the best thing that has happened to pool in a very, very long time, as far as I'm concerned. I will be poring through each and every edition of the ones I don't have and digesting each delicious article, which will fill in a lot of blanks for me.
I can't say enough good things about National Billiard News. Man, I love this. :lovies:
